Ahh, the angry internet is quick to start crying again. I for one am excited about the CQB maps, DICE already gave us one of the best mappacks ever with Karkand, and variety is the flavor of life, so why not have a few more CQB maps. I love playing the large BF3 maps, but once in a while I like to just go in an all out metro/bazaar/crossing kill fest, it's very therapeutic.

On top of that, the second upcoming DLC will feature "the largest map" ever. Really, what's there to cry about??? My only request is to give us some beautiful sunset/sunrise maps.

By that logic we could give Counter-Strike some Project Reality maps, oh how about Arma sized maps in Team Fortress 2?

DICE said before BF3's release that the vanilla maps would be among largest ever. That might be true in technicality but in spirit, the flag packing and the removal of main bases from the map by out of bounds defeats that.

so hopefully when they say the Armored Kill maps will be the biggest, they aren't going to ruin it with those things. There's actually one thing that gives hope in that regard: Somewhere in this stuff, I read that the expansion will have mobile artillery. Can't have that going in a flag packed map...right?

Oman is one of the maps I DO like...somehow the BF3 version is both better and worse than BF2's version. It seems smaller, but maybe it isn't and it's just the increased weapon range...or, maybe it's the lack of cover/brightness of sun. In BF2 you could be in those shoreline areas and not be instantly seen from across the map...hard to explain.

The MEC uncap is definitely somehow lifeless and smaller (in spirit if not in fact) though. It used to be an excellent place to fight.

yes its odd. I feel like the city area is a bit smaller, and the airbase too close

im so so excited about artillery though. it wont be the MLRS I want, but that would be uber OP

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...e-quarters-out-in-june-first-of-three-add-ons
Battlefield 3 is to get three themed downloadable expansions, starting in June. Like first add-on Back to Karkand, they will offer new weapons and in some cases vehicles to be used across the entire game, as well as new multiplayer maps.

In addition, console players are to get a rent-a-server programme that will allow them to run dedicated game servers customised to their own rules and preferences, just like their PC brethren. This is a first for any console shooter.

June's add-on pack is called Close Quarters and it's focused on up-close-and-personal indoor infantry combat with verticality to the map designs. It will be released one week early on PS3, and includes 10 new weapons and four new maps.

It's described as "hectic and intense". The map demonstrated at EA's GDC event was the interior of a swish-looking office block called Ziba Tower, with lots of glass to shatter.

The following add-on will be called Armored Kill. With a focus on tank combat, it will offer the Battlefield series' biggest map ever and one new drivable vehicle for use in the third game. It has no release date yet.

The final add-on will be End Game, about which nothing is known, and which is apparently still a closely guarded secret within developer DICE.

We'll have more info on Close Quarters soon.

June. It should be early may IMO(making it ~6 months since BTK) but maybe we will get the patch in April this way

Because half the game is already CQB. The only map that isn't mostly CQB is Operation firestorm essentially. Caspian Border doesn't really count because most firefights are at pretty close range because of the nature of the map. Also that map is tiny.

They already said "MAPS ARE GOING TO BE HUGE" with Vanilla BF3 and what we got were maps with all the points 100 meters away from each other and the other 80% of the map being completely empty with no reason to fight over it. A giant empty field with absolutely nothing on it does not make a large map. It makes for a boring and shitty one.

And fuck sunrise and sunset maps. All it's going to be is an excuse to do MORE LIGHT EFFECTS that completely destroys your enjoyment of the game when you happen to look at it during a firefight.

er, how do you know it won't be MLRS? All I heard was the word "mobile artillery"...of course I know there must be 100 different articles flying around...

Is it just me or in that leaked video looks like they are playing on maps ALREADY available in single player mode and Co-Op? Those maps look familiar correct me if I am wrong...
Looks just like one of the Co-op levels, don't remember which.

Doesn't mean it's fake, they reuse buildings in different levels all the time. It does make it suspicious.

My thoughts exactly. But that's typical of DLC packs, at least since BC2 - hope that means it's cheaper than the $15 Karkand/Vietnam themed packs.

nope not the only one.

would be AWESOME

there are cappable armor bases on Oman, he who controls the shoreline gets tanks and APC's

The wake airfield is a huge flag to control. Russians get 2 jets, 1 attack chopper and mobile AA there.

So you WANT to spend 5 mins running across a wide open field just to get from point to point? I hate maps like that because camping snipers get to rack up the kills while the people that actually go for the objectives are run out in the open with no cover (unless there happens to be a vehicle available).

Well, see, that's the the thing. A proper large map will be huge, but with flags spread out so that, at maximum, they are a 90 second run between each. I personally favor having BIGG maps but also unlimited sprint, so in reality that might be a 60 second run between flags. Not 5 minutes. And light jeeps should be plentiful, in fact, DPVs should be a squad leader ability - request one every 90 seconds.

But even if it were 5 minutes, if the map is that big, you'll be able to sneak past the snipers simply because they can't watch every direction at once. Also, BF3, I must say, is very sparse in terms of trees. I'd love see a nice map where you can sneak through forest instead of just open ground.

Maybe more trees for BF4 since FB2.0 is wreaking havoc on current hardware.

One sucky part of having many flags is you start to get musical chairs with the flags. Combat would become less likely if there's less of a chance people are going to a flag. Why stay and defend a flag when there are 3 enemy flags to cap? You can see this already happening on maps like Caspian if the player count is low.

You DO realize that maps gets smaller with fewer people.

Completely agree and I've always thought this. Caspian has some trees on at C and that's about it. I too would like a nice forest map.

Other main thing I'd like to see is different times of day / seasons. Give me a winter season or some dawn/dusk maps, to try and get rid of the glaring sun.

I'm still greatly enjoying BF3 though.

Yeah, I wanna see some snowy maps. But keep it cold dark and cloudy, Ive had enough of the glaring, blazing, blinding, high noon sun!

NO they dont its like he said, people just run in a circle around the map capping one undefended flag after another. Its like playing whack a mole, it sucks.

That's an issue with how badly the BF3 maps are designed.

In Bf2 maps scaled perfectly with fewer and fewer people.

To an extent, that's OK, you just don't want it to become the whole game. One way to temper it is by having the main base be an airfield, and then another base have the tanks, and other the helicopter. Dalian Plant is almost perfect in this regard. The airfield, heli and tank bases will be heavily defended, and if there is any whack a mole, it's going to be at the less important flags. But the teams therefore have a choice - focus on capping the less important flags to play the ticket bleed game, or focus on capping the vehicle spawning flags to deny the enemy their vehicles.

If you don't want to play whack-a-mole with everyone else, you and your squad should just focus on the jet and heli flags, or secondarily, the tank spawning flag, by doing so you won't have any trouble encountering bad guys unless the server is empty.

One way around this also,is if you can only capture a flag that is adjacent to a flag you already on. Is this called Attack and Secure? That way, front lines develop. the only problem with this is that even though you cannot CAP out of order, you should still be allowed to sneak to those backflags and steal vehicles. corrupt rules servers will no doubt say you can't even attack a flag out of order even though it's uncappable.

Anyway, no non-mod in BF has ever done this (to my knowledge, I have not played BF Vietnam and am not that familiar with 2142), maybe they should do it though, it would certainly help facilitate large maps.
