I prefer it over an in game browser since you can launch right from the server browser into a game without having to go through menus, opening splash screens and so on. I'd still rather use something like Steam's server browser.

I don't know how you got into servers with BC2, but it wasn't any more difficult for me to get into a match in BC2 than in BF3. It was only 2 clicks for me to get to the server browser in BC2, and after clicking "join server" I was in the game much faster than the ~2 minutes it takes BF3 to start for me. And if I wanted to change servers in BC2, it only took a few seconds. I still can't believe I have to exit and reload the game every time I want to change servers.

The more I play this game the more I get turned off, which is a shame because I was really excited for it and really enjoyed BC2.

edit: I've played 2 matches and it's crashed both times within a couple of minutes.

realtek audio and NIC drivers seem to kill this game if yours are old FWIW

I really like battlelog and how well the game alt tabs

and not needing to alt tab all the time to check stuff when swapping server

Get an SSD. Game takes like 2 seconds to load. Overall works much better than BC2.

Because everyone can afford an SSD...

I have two SSDs (64GB x2) in my system, primarily got the 2nd one for games - except, games are so large now that I can get maybe 4 on there? BF3 + SWTOR took up over 36GB. It doesn't load in 2 seconds, you shave like a minute off the load time - but the genius of BF3 is you can still browse the web while it loads.

You can do that on Steam as well, but you don't need to exit and reload the game every time you change servers.

I really wish I could finish a match without the game crashing or getting disconnected/kicked by punkbuster.

His case would have been clearer if he actually explained the missing teamwork features, but I agree with one major point. BF is dying because Dice and EA are trying to out-COD COD. "Dying" is overly dramatic, but its clearly not what it used to be. I've always thought that if people want to play COD the only way you get those people is by putting out something like it thats better, and BF isn't COD. So you start to strip away BF stuff to appeal to COD players, which alienates the BF players. BF3 was Dice's third attempt at it, with BC2, MoH, and now BF3.

If Dice took COD, removed or reduced killstreaks and perks, had ranked dedicated servers, more players, and opened up the maps a bit, if would be a good competitor to COD that suits Dice's strengths. But thats not BF (traditional BF, i.e. 1942, BF2, BF2142), and it should be a new franchise. They were somewhat close with MoH, but it was half assed, and essentially a paid beta for BF3 tech. Trying to make BF into something COD players will like is lose-lose.

Here you go: His new video explaining the lost features. He uses 2142 instead of BF2, so inb4 future theme haters.

Oh man, watching that game made me so happy. Simple clean Battlefield gameplay. You can actually see shit without having glare everywhere, no bullshit lasers or flashlights. Just good old VOIP squad based teamwork.

The map design is so much more intersting too. Giant walls, large buildings with multiple floors to fight over. So much more dynamic gameplay.

I miss the good old days.

Also, the Pilium. When I saw that gun again, so much nostalgia, the pilium was freaking amazing.

Yep. The nice moderately overcast sky when you look up is one of the first things that stands out.

That just video just perfectly described what I hated about 2142 along with the futuristic theme.

My Humble Opinion's:

The commander role is like playing a RTS game, it has no place in a FPS.

Squad VOIP is ok if you have friends or at the very least, decent players, but in a public server.....UGH!

Commo rose was just another annoyance along with the huge colored killfeed and overly busy mini-map.

Did not care for the aura fields for healing, at least BF3's model is more realistic.

There was 1 thing that I agreed with him about, (Ping) thankfully that is claimed to be fixed in the upcoming patch. I also liked, as Nikolae mentioned, the lack of glaring sun. But you have to admit BF3's sun is also pretty realistic.

Part of BF3's model includes automatic health regen for vehicles. I cannot accept that as more realistic, and certainly not better for the game, than aura fields. Er, I am assuming that you're talking about vehicles here and not infantry.

Also, commander is more like a glorified spotter than an RTS. I appreciate the comparisons to RTS, but that's not it. And if you hate the 2142 commander for its RTS properties, I suppose you shouldn't even look at a computer playing Planetside with unshielded eyes...

Squad VOIP is essential for public servers. BF2 used to let you have a surplus of squads, which means that you can form your own squad, boot anyone who's abusing it(ie, 9 year old kids saying LET ME DRIVE THAT TANK), and lock your squad. Apart from the need to do that, even people without a mic can listen to those who do.

Commo rose is not an annoyance if properly done. Sure, there could have been tighter spam protections on it. But excising it? Harsh, and destroys teamwork.

They should have 2 VOIP buttons, one for your squad and one for the entire team. As it is now no one uses it in public servers.

I agree auto health regen is lame. I was referring to the engineer's repair tool vs the aura fields on vehicles.

Yeah, I looked at the Planetside thread & videos and saw that it's not anything I would be interested in, so Ive not commented there.

that's what I mean, though. They have replaced aura fields with regen. I don't know for sure but I'd guess it's a direct replacement. You can use the repair tool in all other Battlefield games as well, that has not changed.

For the record, BF3 loads in <5 seconds on my system. I don't know how long it takes with a traditional HDD, but HDD's are dead to me for installing games on so I really don't care. I can see how having to relaunch the game to change servers would bother people and I don't really understand why they did it this way. Also, you can get SSD's for <$100 now. Exceptionally affordable given the incredible overall boost to performance they give a system. Not free, obviously, but nothing is. Buy an SSD.

Oh hai, try investing in some reading comprehension! I said I have TWO SSD's - one was purchased solely to be used to load games. I then determined that the "increase" was negligible given the cost and amount of games I could store. Having 3-4 games load quicker isn't worth giving up the storage. Just because you can get one for under $100 doesn't mean it's worth it - maybe if you only play one or two games, but why limit yourself.

I'm neutral on Aura fields. I dont like it because it lessens the role of the engineer, however, at the same time, it still gives people who stay together an edge in combat.

The auto health regen on vehicles is the single most bullshit mechanic I have ever come across. The health regen on humans comes a close second.

In a class based game, who the hell though that removing the burden of teamwork from an entire class was a good idea.

Only bad thing about having a SSD is having to wait (jumping up and down) 20-30 seconds before the start of a new round

Completely agree, although I liked the futuristic theme just fine. Mech's, EMP's, cloaking...etc. It was "near future" anyway, the guns still fired bullets...

Commander was a completely broken feature, they're not showing you in that video how hackers would drop orbital strikes with no cooldowns, and pile up ammo boxes everywhere with no cooldown...etc. And that b.s. was everywhere in 2142. Commander is a nice idea, but in practice more of an annoyance. Glad it's gone.

VOIP is tricky, technically it's still there if you want to play with friends (Battlelog) but let's be honest - VOIP with random people was quite often more iritating than anything. I'm torn on this one, I like the feature but I'm not all that distressed over not having to listen to idiots whine and moan...

The commo rose - please, this was spammed religiously. It had to go, I pray that it doesn't return. Again, this feature sounds like a good idea but people are morons.

You're considering a feature a failure because of hacks? Why don't we remove guns because of aimbots?

And commo rose spam could have been fixed without removing it.

Why are so many people quick to adopt the "remove fly from forehead with C4" method of fixing these things?
