BF3 on PC supports DX10 as well.

They should force DX11 - there are optimization improvements that can definitely help, and they can get the engine to do a few more tricks knowing that they don't have to worry about it breaking support for older systems incapable of running DX11.
This...DX11 is pretty close to DX10 IIRC, but I know the game runs on ATI 4X00 series cards, so the game disables some DX11 features. I say screw it, PC gamers and now console gamers will have all DX11 hardware. They just better not make it compatible with the current consoles.

My M98B inspired 5 shot group at 100 yards. You can cover it with a dime! .223cal rifle (SLIGHTLY smaller than an M98B round, lol).

I'm near certain BF4 will use Frostbite 2.0. Likely with some tweaks, but it will still be FB 2.0. Think in terms of Crysis 2 to Crysis 3, both using Cryengine 3.0, but Crysis 3 has some new features added. Developing a top to bottom engine is very expensive and FB 2.0 is already robust and powerful enough to carry through for BF4. It also takes a lot more time than they've had since BF3 to create a new engine.

Expect BF4 to look and play very much like BF3 does. FB 2.0 is already capable of visuals on the PC that require far more power than the new consoles will have or be able to match. It's already one of the best engines around, rivalled only by Cryengine 3.0.

Whether or not they assign a new version number to the engine makes no difference. They don't throw out all their code and start from scratch every time they advance the version number. The engine gradually evolves. The ID tech 5 engine is an updated wolf 3D engine. Granted there's probably no code from Wolf 3D left, but there's probably still some code from Quake 1 in there. So many people think the Source engine is still the same as it was in 2004 just because they haven't announced to the world they're calling it Source 2.0 now.

This is probably worth watching for some information right from Dice on Frostbite 2.0

FB 2 is a massive newly revised engine they built to go forward on. FB 1.0 is what we saw in BFBC2. They are not the same, the difference between FB 1.0 and FB 2.0 is huge. What we are playing with in BF3 is not the BFBC2 engine tweaked out, what we play with in BF4 will be the BF3 engine tweaked out.

Hmmm, did they just put dry erase marker on the LCD?

I think BF4 will be FB 2.5 like BC2 was 1.5 to BC1. Not necessarily bad, but I don't think we will have a big jump like BF3 from BC2. Maybe for consoles but for PC we won't. I hope I am wrong though.

Sort of. Engine revisions can have a completely different architecture. That's pretty much a clean slate design. Sure they might call some of the same libraries for minor functions, but to characterize a new engine just as a evolution of the old one is often wrong.

That said, I would be surprised to see FB3.0 for BF4. Its still one of the best looking engines on the market. If anything I bet they put time into optimizing the engine for the new consoles. PC side I'm sure they'll add more complex geometry/textures etc for the ultra level, but I'm not expecting anything Drastic.

I would be OK with current levels of graphics or a slight improvement. I mean, I would tolerate it. With a new game the graphics should be improved if possible, especially with a whole new sequel with a name like BF4.
I am more looking forward to the new gameplay, theme, weapons etc.
Now, if they release BF5 and graphics haven't changed, then it will start to look like COD and that would suck. But one thing at a time.

Kiasar Railroad has become one of my favorite maps for Conquest. I love the hilly terrain with thick lush vegetation along with the flag placement and abundance of vehicles.

Got the tag.

US armor with a modern city in the background..... Look out Canbacon! We may be invading Toronto or Montreal.

I would think Seattle would be the city that would have that much rain and have that cool weather feel.

If it's a "Defending the US" approach - it could very well be Seattle.

Actually - I have no idea on this one... did BF3's Campaign (wait, what? lol) have a logical conclusion, or did there seem to be a cliff hanger?

To me, if the Ruskies are still the baddies, this time they are invading,
That one point in the image even resembles the Space Needle a little bit. It could just be just about anything, however.

And it could easily be any well built-up metropolis throughout Eastern Europe, Russia, China, even some Euro-Middle-Eastern regions like Turkey (particularly Istanbul or Ankara).

It'd be kind of neat to see the story take the "defend the homeland!" approach - more so for the multiplayer. But a wet, possibly chilly, and overall dreary metropolis scene is hardly a guarantee it has to be set in North America.

I love Battlefield 3, have over 600 hours into it. Never finished the campaign, made it as far as the second mission Looking forward to this one big time. A North American themed one would be awesome.

I realize for the most part this will be a reskinned BF3, but the game is still pretty cutting edge for a PC game. Just so long as we do not see BF5 and BF6 given the same reskin treatment. Then it will wind up like just another CoD.

You only have 600 hours?

Its double what I have into it and it wasy main game for over a year

You have over an hour a day

Pretty much. I thought it was an embarrassingly large amount of time myself, 25 actual days of time...

I guess some people have a 1000 hours or something ? Maybe I was just getting trolled and missed it, lol.
