it would still be more effective than holding fire to spray...
you're talking as if there is a more effective way than tapfiring?

I simply mean tapfiring shouldn't be as effective. If it takes 3 or 4 bullets to kill you shouldn't able to tapfire so fast that someone looking out of a window can't even move 6 inches to cover. If you had to manually reset your aim then this wouldn't happen as much.

Battlefieldo - Battleblog #3: First Pictures of Battlelog

Battleblog #3: First Pictures of Battlelog
12:11 pm | by Stadler on July 14, 2011 in Battlefield 3

Well today it’s Thursday and that means it’s time for another update from the Official Battlefield Blog. This time we get our first look at the Battlelog feature in Battlefield 3. DICE has proved to us once again that they are going a step further with Battlefield 3 and I must say, Battlelog is looking pretty damn impressive so far. Especially the built in chat function. The blog posting is only on the German Battlefield page now, but hopefully the English version will be released in the next hours to come. We will keep you posted.

For those who are interested in getting a hard copy of the game, Newegg has BF3 Limited Edition for pre-order on all systems for $50 after code. Here's the code for PC: EMCKCJE53. Includes free shipping, and knowing Newegg, it will only take 2-3 days.

Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...32130284-L019B

Interestingly they are listing the same system requirements that had previously been debunked. Maybe not so fake after all?

There are a couple of Swedish TV4 News spots on DICE tonight.

Here is one posted on YouTube. There are some screenshots of the editor, but otherwise not very entertaining if you don't speak Swedish.

But, these guys from battlefield3.nl say they saw a reference to LAN mode posted on a whiteboard behind Karl Magnus Troeddson. I wouldn't get your hopes up, sounds unlikely to me.

One guy that apparently understands Swedish summarizes the story this way:

This is the main thing he says:
- They work very hard on the game
- Dice is pleased with publisher EA
- No political things BF3
- Some parts same as MW3 (some locations, paris)
- They listen to the community and do many things we want

At the moment, 4 Battlefield 3 video's can be seen here, on TV4's web site. Look for the word Battlefield in the descriptions below the main video window.

BREAKING: Battlefield 3 alpha screenshots leaked

On July 17th, 2011 in Gallery

EA and DICE are currently running alpha/beta testing on the new Battlelog service, where a number of third party testers have been given access to the alpha version of Battlefiled 3 in order to test Battlelog. One of the testers sent us these screenshots of Battlefield 3, which is in alpha mode. The map is the same as we’ve seen at E3: Operation Metro. While the screenshots don’t reveal anything we haven’t seen yet, we do, for the first time, get a good glimpse of the Battlefield 3 HUD. There’s also an extra screenshot of Battlelog, showing a server browser.

Notes from another site on the same topic:

Battlefield 3 - Leaked 'Alpha Trial' multiplayer screenshots and graphics info

SUNDAY, JULY 17, 2011

Over on the tek-9.org forums, a user by the name of 'GOLD.i3DGwendoline' is now your best friend. They've leaked some Battlefield 3 screenshots from an 'Alpha Trial' of Battlefield 3, as well as some brand new information regarding graphics and gameplay. It's all below.

Remember, those are early-build multiplayer screenshots, which we're very keen to point out won't be representative of the final game (don't get your panties in a twist, folks). However, DICE have a lot of work to do; they've said before that there should be no difference between online and offline graphics.

The user also left some insightful new details, though we're a bit doubtful about the fact Graphic Detail was set to 'high':

At first, The game says I need nvidia driver 275.35, while the last one is 275.33.
So maybe there will be more graphic options when it is enabled...

The only options I could change where resolution, which I took 1680x1024.
Graphic Detail: High

- Maps looks good.
- Graphic settings is bugged, probably since the recommended driver version is not yet released.
- Very low recoil, tough there is bulletspread.
- Bullets bounce off metal.
- Surround sound is REALLY good, the sound of the rockets that flew by my head made me smile, explosions are really nice, a good deep drum.
- You can see your own legs when you look down, tough your weapon will stick thru your own leg... =x
- You do not walk fully silent when crouching.
- Infinite sprint.
- Tank can swim and jump (funny bug rofl)

And in case you wanted to know what sort of machine could run that at 510 FPS:

AMD PhenomII 965 @ 4.5Gghz
4x2048MB DDR3-2133Mhz
2x 80GB Intel X-25 SSD on an Areca RAID controller.
1x GTX460, little bit clocked.

The original post can be found here. Stay tuned to our Twitter and we'll try our hardest to find you more in-game screenshots.

That looks good for alpha. Bout the only thing that looks bad is the buildings out of bounds but who cares, they're out of bounds. That minimap looks good too, maybe there's hope for properly optional 2D spotting instead of 3D.

BTW the mods at EA UK BF3 have been yanking those links already lol.

Battlefieldo - Battlelog website surfaces

11:09 am | by Stadler on July 17, 2011

The official login page for Battlelog has surfaced over the last couple of days. Even though no one is able to login now, looks as though EA/DICE is getting their system online. The CoD Elite beta kicked off over the weekend and perhaps EA/DICE is looking to do the same. There was much speculation whether this page was real or not but now we have confirmation on this. Through this page popping up, the community discovered a few other references. First, it appears as those a Swedish company, ESN is building the battlelog framework and a few developers have been seen on origin with “Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial” on their list. You can check out the Battelog login page for yourself, and no matter how many times you try to login, we can assure you it won’t work. But the fantasy is nice.

My friend who works at EA got this email the other day:

"How would you like to be among the first to get hands-on with the still-in-development Battlefield 3? We’re excited to offer EA employees the opportunity to help the DICE team with a key EA-only internal test. Read on for the details!"

"In late July we are launching a closed test where a very limited number of key community players will be invited to play the E3 map "Operation Metro" on PC via Origin. At the same time, players will also experience the newly created Battlelog social web destination, as its PC integration is integral to the user experience."

"In order to participate, you will need to have a valid EA Profile Account connected to your ea.com or dice.se email address and make sure that you are opted-in to receive emails from EA."

Battlefield 3 Out of Steam

Retailer suggests that EA's shooter might not appear on Steam.
UK, July 18, 2011
by Jamie Feltham

EA's hotly-anticipated Battlefield 3 may not come to Steam when it's released later in the year, US retail giant GameStop has suggested.

Financial research firm Baird stated as much following a meeting with GameStops' management team, saying that the "upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam."

It was confirmed to Develop that this news comes directly from company executives. The DICE shooter will come to other digital download services, however.

The Baird report continues: "Given Steam's dominance – and insistence on users downloading a Steam client application – publishers are likely to be receptive to a competitive alternative,"

EA recently launched Origin, a digital download service set to rival Valve's. And last month saw the EA-published Crysis 2 removed from Steam after a DLC exclusivity deal was signed with another service. EA claimed no responsibility for the removal or the deal.

It may well be missing out on Steam, but we're still looking forward to Battlefield 3's launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 25 in the US, and three days later in Europe.

If the old EA downloader is anything to go on might compete with Steam but it certainly will not "rival" Steam.

@Gullyfoyle

I know those are alpha screenshots, but YIKES... those look worse than BC2!

Hopefully just driver/alpha issues... really really really hope....

uh I wouldnt say worse. look smother than lots of the terrain in bc2 and the fog is more subtle real, to me.

now the vehicle, way worse.

I think the water looks a little better too

the far off stuff looks bad but Im guessing those are the last textures to get a makeover

It appears the user is running FRAPS, and getting 510 frames per second in one of the screen shots. His machine is not all that powerful. Obviously, the games graphics settings are set very very low.

There's a thread on the EA UK forums implying it was a pro-COD fanboy journalist and he set his settings and resolution as low as possible to make BF3 look bad.

When I saw the pics and texture scaling this is what I immediately thought. And even if not, they may not have put the higher res textures in this build. However from the video I saw from E3, everything looked significantly better.

If those pictures WERE intentionally leaked to be to DICE's detriment, they failed. The only thing that looked bad about those pics was the buildings in the background, and who cares?
