I've got an i5 750 @ 2.67, 8GB, and a 5870 (1GB). I'm guessing the vid card is going to need an upgrade I like this card.
I assume it would be maps designed for 24 players, since that's the console limit.
Man I'm really hoping my PC runs this game smooth at max settings. I'm running a C2D 3.6ghz, 4gb RAM, and a 1gb 460 GPU all at 1680x1050.
I have an AMD 925@ 2.8...I don't like overclocking. Should that be OK for 1680X1050 or would going to a 965 Black Edition help? I won't be able to do a Sandy Bridge system until 2012. Late 2012.

3D spotting now vehicle only, infrantry map-spot instead.
I would loosely base your performance off of what BC2 gave you. Bf3 might be a bit more efficient, it also might require a touch more 'umph' as well. Won't really know for sure until the beta.
The interesting thing is that in BC2, I set it to 1680 X 1050, with 4X AA, and everything else as high as it will go. Interestingly, if I set it lower, then, at least judging fraps by eye, it does not increase FPS(and no, vsync is not on).
And while frames dip below 60 a lot it's usually not lower than 50 and often greater than 70.

Most epic thing for me were the jet formations. Adding in squad-based flying would be an amazing change from the lone-wolf jets in BF2.
Potentially most game-breaking - the thermal imaging in the helicopters. It would be a ton of fun if you were the gunner, not so much if you were infantry.

^^I nearly had a heart attack when I read that. This truly may be the 2nd coming of BF.
If that's true, it's wonderful. And vehicles are pretty loud and everything, so who cares if 3D spots work on them.

I think the helis have very low auto stabilization. You need to maintain stability or you crash. More like BF2.
I had no bombs in the jet I think it must be equipped first. But I could lock other air vehicles and shoot 2 rockets.
yes you need to switch between ground combat weapons 1 or air combat 2.
I think I had unlimitd ammo in the jet, no flights to the base to reload #BF3 alpha.

Games disappearing from Steam is a complex issue but can be fixed, says Valve boss
Valve has a responsibility to show Electronic Arts why it is smarter business to add games on Steam instead of remove them, studio president Gabe Newell has said.
Recently, a number of EA-published games have suddenly dissapeared from Valve's leading online game portal. Speaking to Develop, Newell said the reason why is down to "a whole complicated set of issues".
Last month industry sources speculated that the issue hinged on EA's desire to sell DLC directly to Steam customers, as opposed to hosting content through Valve's own portal.
Valve takes a revenue cut from all content sold through Steam, meaning that EA's alleged strategy - if true - could allow EA to circumvent those payments.
Certain EA-published games have been removed from Steam on days that coincide with the release of new DLC. Electronic Arts has also launched the Origin service for PC; something that is categorically a competitor to Steam.
Newell suggested the struggle with EA is complicated, but nevertheless reconcilable.
"I dont think Valve can pick just one thing and think the issue would go away if we fixed that," he said.
"We have to show EA its a smart decision to have EA games on Steam, and were going to try to show them that," he said.
Speaking in an interview to be published soon, Newell spoke in depth about the potential for Dota 2 on a global scale, and what success outside the FPS genre will mean for Valve.
But returning to the issue of EA, the Valve co-founder took a philosophical stance when asked if customers should expect more games to be removed from Steam.
"Companies have to earn the right to install content on their customers' PCs on a regular basis," he began.
"The same thing is true of Steam. We have to prove we are creating value on an ongoing basis, whether its to EA or Ubisoft or whoever.
"We really want to show theres a lot of value having EA titles on Steam. We want EAs games on Steam and we have to show them thats a smart thing to do," he said.
"I think at the end of the day were going to prove to Electronic Arts they have happier customers, a higher quality service, and will make more money if they have their titles on Steam. Its our duty to demonstrate that to them. We dont have a natural right to publish their games."
