I'm interested for sure. Can you give us an idea of how many people you'd need to make it work? In other words, how many Anandtech folks would have to regularly play and/or pay to keep it running?

Well, I figure if we do a 32 player server (we could do 64 but that's double the price, obviously) I'd foot $25 and maybe folks could chip in for the rest. Gameservers.com has a clanpay system, so you wouldn't need to personally send me a cent.

The 32 player server is ~$40/mo.

I try to do it somewhere central to everyone - like Dallas.

Am I the only person who thinks that dallas servers always suck? I prefer chicago because I live there, but I play on new york and other east coast servers which give roughly the same ping as a dallas server, but they are noticeably better for me in game.

im 100 miles south and I play on dallas all the time with great ping, sometimes better than chicao

We tried in in alpha. I have some issues with it, but it generally works better than most other games' browsers.

Yeah - that's what I mean. There seem to be precious few details about the server browser, apart from the fact that it's web-based. Do you need to quit out or alt-tab out of the game to find a new server? Is there something in-game you can do to access the browser?

in origin when you click play bf3 it launches the battlelog site

to find a new server you have to quit bf3 because the site says "playing on server already" when you go to it

basically the plugin on the site and your bf3 are linked

it is an ok browser, not the best one ever, but it's better than bf2 and the client itself loads faster and is more responsive than bf2 AND bc2 so in that respect, it's an improvement.

What nova said. Key point being don't freak out over having to leave the game. The time from clicking join to playing is shorter than it was in BC2 just loading the map.

what? thats dumb. i thought all origin preorders before the 25th got early access. that was part of the reason i preordered for the first time ever in my life (that and the 25% birthday code and getting the karkand pack essentially for free). i certainly didnt see anything that said the beta was full or only for certain special people deemed worthy enough when i preordered.

Eh, I would wait until tomorrow before getting worried about it showing up in Origin. However it looks like I have a good reason to wake up just a little bit earlier tomorrow
