Played about an hour tonight and the new maps are very fun. If you played BF2 the lay-out should be very familiar to you. Some things are obviously changed but the basic lay-out is nearly the same.
The maps are the same size on consoles, except most of them are out of bounds. Gulf of Oman for example, only has three flags on Conquest.

sometimes, but often not. I've had 3 crashes so far today. I know it didn't count in one of them because I never received my unlocks. It also tells me my total playtime on BTK is 17 minutes, which is slightly off.
Whats funny is when I'm having a crappy game and crashes it somehow knows to save those games...
whoa, the assignments unlock new guns?
When you crash out of the game / get disconnected do the points still count? I was on a 1000 ticket map and had a kick ass score going with sniper...of course...with about 100 tickets left...I get killed and subsequently disconnected...
If it's just you that gets disconnected, then yes it should still save the stats. But, if the server goes down, then no ... your stats are not saved. At least that's the pattern I've detected.

It's not you, it's me... from my years of playing on low player count (Battlefield CTF) games, I have been conditioned to never give up my teams armor to the enemy. I would rather go down with the ship than have the other team dominate us because they have all of the armor
Bummer. I bought the expansion and and I cannot play. It says that I must purchase it. Yet I received the email that I ordered it and it says I don't have to do anything special other than check for updates. I check for updates it says none. I did a repair install on it and it came back fine. Still am unable to play anything Karkland. Says I must purchase it. Has been an hour now...
The new version of Karkand is actually an improvement because it eliminated many of the traditional chokepoints that existed in the original version through extended use of building destruction and by simply allowing players to enter more buildings.
And on Karkand, when I swam out to the little islands of land supporting the bridges to the back to flags I couldn't get on the ground. My guy just kept bumping into different parts of the land until I gave up and swam to the other side. Definately going to be an issue if you can't swim to those

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is out on PC! Heres how to buy, download and get started.
1. Confirm if you are entitled to Back to Karkand at no extra charge
If you are a Limited Edition owner, you will get the Back to Karkand expansion pack at no extra charge. An easy way to check if you are entitled to this is to log in to Battlelog as usual. If you are a Limited Edition user, you should see a banner on the left hand side that says you own Back to Karkand and are ready to play it. You can skip to step 4 below.
2. Make sure you have downloaded the latest Battlefield 3 update
If you did not download the Battlefield 3 update we released December 6th, do so now. Either check the download progress bar within your Origin application to verify that the latest update is downloading and installing, or use the download manager in Battlelog to make sure your game is updated to the latest version. Without this step, you will not be able to play Back to Karkand, but if you have played Battlefield 3 the last week, chances are you are already properly updated.
3. Buy Back to Karkand/Enter your boxed code
You can buy Back to Karkand for $14.99 (£11.99/149 SEK/14.99 euro) from the Origin web store. Or, if you prefer, you can buy it from within your Origin application itself. Click "Battlefield 3" inside Origin to see Back to Karkand, or search for Back to Karkand in the search field within your Origin application.
If you bought the code-in-a-box version of Back to Karkand (a physical box for PC with a download code inside), start your Origin application, click the cog icon, select redeem code and enter the code found in your box. This will start the download of Back to Karkand.
4. Find your new maps
The four new Back to Karkand maps (Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, and Gulf of Oman) will appear in the server browser, just like any other map. You will also be able to filter for only Back to Karkand maps by clicking the Back to Karkand logo in the top left corner of the server browsers filter settings. Servers running Back to Karkand maps will have a small brown "B2K" icon in the server list to help you identify them.
5. Go back to Karkand!
Jump into the game and enjoy your new content! You can find information on your new Back to Karkand Assignments in the "Assignments" tab on your stats page in Battlelog, and your profile will have the new "B2K" icon to verify that you have Back to Karkand.
Q: What happens if I try to join a game with Back to Karkand maps, and I haven't bought Back to Karkand?
A: You will see a message warning you that you need Back to Karkand. See image below. You can still join a server that has Back to Karkand maps, but once a Back to Karkand map goes into play, you will be returned to Battlelog.
That's it! Enjoy your new expansion pack, and let us know what you think in the Battlelog forums!

I would have liked to see all the spawns over the river. The Epic sniper battles that took place between both sides was always fun.
Feels a bit laggier and the F35 cockpit view sucks.
I disagree - I loved those choke points! Although Zargon did still manage to hit a few of my mines at the traditional ones (I still don't know how you didn't manage to blow me up with your C4 buggie on Oman either)
And on Karkand, when I swam out to the little islands of land supporting the bridges to the back to flags I couldn't get on the ground. My guy just kept bumping into different parts of the land until I gave up and swam to the other side. Definately going to be an issue if you can't swim to those
You can get on those, I swam to them a lot when playing rush last night... When swimming to the right side coming from the two-flag side, you have to go almost all the way to the edge before you can get up. Other than that, its pretty easy...
There was definitely a lot of little steps that you couldn't walk over. The whole mirror's edge thing looks cool but sometimes it's a pita trying to get over blown up walls.
