I was on a server tonight where the other team dominated the air for 2 games straight. I finally got in a viper as a gunner and the other attack heli pilots that went 40-1 combined the previous game couldnt stay in the air for longer than 30 sec. The previous games I tried using the javelin, but no one would deploy soflam. I switched to stingers and 1 out of 5 would hit because of flares and range, but not enough to take them out...just annoy them. Next game I went recon to deploy soflam, but no one would use the javelin. Anyways, those guys who dominated werent even any good, but good enough to destroy everything on the ground.
To be honest, the game feels like its becoming unplayable. A decent pilot with unlocks cannot be taken out of the sky, unless its by another pilot. But if left unchecked, theres really nothing anyone on the ground can do but get dominated. At least now my assignments are done and I can go back to infantry only. I would rather play Metro 24/7 than deal with this ****.
wow, last 4 hours only 2 servers available, and 2k ticket wake island. This is seriously sad state of game.
Soooo agreed. What sucks is that you can take a heli down with stingers, but you really have to have 4 guys all using stingers spread out a little bit, and everyone locking/firing as fast as they possibly can before the heli runs away like the little bitches they are.
Unfortunately though, by the time you're able to take a single heli down, your "team" is getting utterly dominated, you have no flags, and you're pretty much SOL because that dildo chopper pilot will be back in the air almost immediately.
I thought of a great way to make a balanced hardcore game :
Every player starts with 3 spawns total, and they're not all that fast (30 seconds from death to respawn)
Every land vehicle starts with 2 spawns total, and they're a while to spawn (2 minutes down if taken out)
Every air vehicle starts out with only 1, you lose it it's gone for the round.
Now THAT would push people to learn teamwork, and generally be a lot more thrilling becaues there would actually be meaning and loss to everything.
Check the boxes for 1-5, 10, etc except for empty. This will list all of them except empty. A lot of 1 player servers will still show up though. Wasn't there an option to do this originally? There's an option under number of free slots for empty servers, but you can't put an X in it, only check it.

Do flares not affect a javelin round?
In the chopper I have heat seekers...once armed how do you engage a target with them? just get them in the sites until you get a lock?
I would definitely be down using my SOFLAM but WHY THE HELL is it so damn slow now with a mouse...I can't even move it once enabled now...impossible to track anything...it wasn't always like that....
One other point, I finally got in a squad with a friend http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/satsau/, he is a good guy all around and it was a BLAST to finally talk to someone in this game while playing...how or WHY they can't incorporate this by default with any squad is a shame...because it would make the game 1000x better IMO.
Usually when I jump into a server and see my teamates or squadmates using a JAV - I switch to recon and use SOFLAM... I'm still trying to find the good spots to place SOFLAM on the newer maps - but if you see a SOFLAM lock try to use the Javelin right away, because usually I just SOFLAM in the direct line of fire and about to get a tank shell in my face...:hmm:
Do you have a gaming mouse? Just crank up the sensitivity while using SOFLAM then step it down after.
That can't be true - I filter to see only NZ and Australia servers and still see dozens populated at a time.
People who complain about the stinger not doing enough damage to air vehicles must be idiots. It would unbalance the game totally having them do more damage. The stinger is only in the game for infantry to be able to scare the air vehicles away from them. Not to own the skies. The jets are there to protect the infantry from choppers.
If you're getting owned by a chopper you don't need a stinger that 1 hit kills a chopper, you need a better player flying your jet. When stingers disabled in one hit the air vehicles were a pointless joke, and had no worth. Battlefield is about teamwork, not about your wish to be able to get cheap kills with an overpowered weapons. As they stand now a group of players with stingers can take out a jet/chopper, just like a group of players can take out a tank.
Better players spend less time staring at the sky, and more time concentrating on what can make themselves useful to their team.

"Hey, I know. I'll stare at the sky with my no skill heatseeker and maybe I'll pull a .3 k/d ratio."
I would almost guarauntee you that any player with a spm of over 500 has less than 15 stinger kills no matter the amount of hours they have played.
tried that...I have a mx-518 and have the dpi maxed...still stupid slow...
I have been reading around and it sounds like the dumbed it down to 'balance' action...
well, it is 6AM at the time you took that screenshot. i cant imagine a lot of ppl online in north america at that time playing. most are still sleeping or getting up for work. you might try checking the 10+ box as well. as it is, you'll only see servers that have 54/64 players or more. there are probably more (esp at this time of day) sparsely populated servers out there and you are filtering them out. also, i cant recall how mine is setup but i think i only have ranked checked, not punkbuster. if im not mistaken, ranked server have to have pb enabled. could be a broken filter maybe and thats limiting you? just some thoughts.Seeing i'm in north america..

Some land vehicles are a important asset still for transport...can't expect many people to walk the distance on huge maps like firestorm .
Transport helis at least should be always around they don't always need mini guns just be there if you need to drop someone off in the fresh hole of hell if need be.
BF3 rarely seems to be about teamwork some classes like recon encourage people to camp behind some rock or a bush with a sv98...they do this also in rush mode and its pathetically stupid as most rush maps end up being team deathmatch in short order.

Have you checked your vehicle sensitivity in options? That might control SOFLAM too. Also only zoom in to get the the initial lock, zoom out to keep them in the larger reticule to get the full lock.
