Random question: How does everyone in this forum seem to know how far away guys are? I see people saying under 100m they can hit, over 100m they can't hit, within 20m they'll full spray, etc etc.

Is there some indicator of distance in the game or are people just guessing?

I usually guesstimate based off of the marksman bonus. That will tell how far your HS snipe was. After a while with a weapon you just get to know the feel of the bullet drop depending on your position vs the position of the other user to a reference landmark.

I usually do a test fire in a general location of the target area, for a sniper rifle, to see the bullet drop. The amount of drop, depending on weapon, gives me the average distance. I would love to have an option to have binoculars, so you can really setup a good sniper team. Maybe if you are in a pair (one binocular only + rifle only) the sniper glint disappears or is reduced.

WHOAH there, thats a little complex for newcomers to understand! We can't possibly put that in the game!

That explains why I didn't get this cry about the Dart, only died to them like twice. I only play Karand, Oman, and Sharqui, with some Firestorm every once in a while.

I don't get how people play Metro. Its even smaller than a COD map.

It's not the size, it's how horribly designed it is for anything but spamming. Rush version of it is not better, conquest is a joke. But good for legally stat boosting! :awe:

TDM has some usefulness. I go in there while on lunch break to hone my weapon skills with new weapons. Unfortunately the DART/MASS has really killed any other weapon play. So now I just stick to bolt action rifles for CQC head shot training.

While it was fun to DART whore it up a bit on canals, I'm still doing pretty damn good without it, even facing off other DARTWhores.

Because we want twice as many useless players as we do now.

Snipers have their uses, whether it's thinning out objectives, pulling out people with MAVs, or SOFLAMing targets. The problem is so many useless people are even more useless in the sniper spot.

if you want to annoy the dart whores go DAO+Fleschette.

I had good luck with M27+flash+grip but then you are useless trying shoot further than the crate fields distance

If they'd fix the F'ing SOFLAM so we could manually laze, we'd be a whole lot more effective. And while I'm dreaming, can I get an M98B with smooth pull and bipod? It'd make trying to solo hold the Gas Station on Karkland so we don't get totally swept from behind a lot easier...I hate getting knifed!!!

Check the distance from you to a flag, that will give you a good indicator so you can guess. But yes, everyone is guessing.

KARKAND. People settled this debate years ago, and seeing it misspelled is a pet peeve. KARKAND.

Also, no, Snipers don't need easier tools. Also, isn't Gas Station an uncap...

I got no love from the DAO+flechette, actually had better luck using buckshot with it.

The M26 dart is just weird in close quarters, its like you get suppressed the instant its pointed at you....before even being fired upon by the stupid thing.

My solution is to sit back and snipe the dart toting bastards from beyond their range. :biggrin:

Geez, who pissed in your corn flakes?!?!?!

Not exactly sure what you mean by uncap, but the gas station is fair game for everyone as far as I know.

really? fleshchette spreads less so you get more hits.

run it as recon, toss down a tugs, and prefire once as they are about to come around the corner.......

i honestly dont find them that annoying, and the only map its really an issue on is metro and maybe bazzar

TDM servers (I <3 Canals) auto-shotties can become an issue; metro is just a poor map other than for grinding so doesn't really matter, and Bazaar usually has enough locations where you can get an angle to out-range shotties that it doesn't matter.

It's good to have several favorited servers though that limit them though

Whats strange is many people consider the M1014 to be an auto shotty, when its a semi. I've been kicked a couple of times for using it with just buckshot.

It seemed to take 2-3 hits with fleschette and usually only 1-2 with buckshot.

The annoying thing about facing the M26 dart is that even when its obvious (to me at least) that I fired first at point blank range, the dart guy always gets the kill. I look at his health in killcam and its still 100% even though I just hit him in dead in the chest with a 12 gauge round. This rarely happens when facing opponents using other weapons, and when it does, I chalk it up to either lag or the randomness of the game. But against an opponent using the M26 dart it happens nearly every time. Definitely wtf moments.

i basically only play conquest which makes it even stranger, seeing no shotties when joining on caspian just makes me laugh

Patch rolling out as I type this. (saw it on steam forums)

Changelist
* Fixed AA missiles not doing damage to vehicles moving at very high speeds
* Fixed TV Missile doing much more damage than it should (it is no longer a 1-hit kill)
* Tweaked tank armor strength
* MAV elevatoring fix, round 2; proning on the MAV will now disable it
* RCON admin.say command can send to individual players
* A few invalid map+gamemode combinations in maplist.txt could crash the server on startup; these combinations are now rejected instead
* RCON vars.serverDescription was not returning anything in R20 if the string was not set; this has been changed to return &#8220;&#8221; instead
* RCON player.onChat now reports the target player subset

Not easier per se, just more realistic. It's not realistic that a SOFLAM user shouldn't be able to paint whatever the SOFLAM is pointed at. I should be able to paint a rock if I want, which would be nice sometimes when you can see another team setup but can't actually shoot them.

Gas Station is an objective for either side on Karkand. I don't shoot people when they've just spawned when then other side holds it, and unfortunately that often leads to my detriment...

I was playing a rush game with a few ATOTers last night, and our team was getting totally overwhelmed on defense. We just couldn't figure out how we were getting so steamrolled - none of us could stay alive on defense for more than a few seconds. It occurred to me today that this was a mixed rush/CQ server, and I'm pretty sure it was 64-man.

I thought it was originally said when BF3 came out that Rush would only be 32-man, which ticked off some people. But I'm pretty sure there are actually 64-man Rush servers (like the one we were on), and my impression is that they are just too chaotic to play a decent game.

Any thoughts on that?

Yup, if the defenders loose the MCOM arm interrupt it is too easy with 32 attackers to just grenade spam/cover the site. Then again it could go the other way easily. 16v16 in rush is much better.

On another note, if I wasn't running an ACOG on Caspian, I would have had you on the tower, because I think you had no idea where I was. We should have just done a sniper battle.
