I would say anyone can lvl fast, don't think its the class. Friend hit 80 mid day yesterday on a Engineer.

i would of hit it a lot sooner if not for all the farming / helping members.

I think i wasted a good day running around with zin just grabing waypoints, and other day just farming mats so i could get crafting up.

Realized, i chose the wrong crafting profession...

:\

Weapons and Armor and call be bought with karma.. very nice gear too.
Rings / and FOOD!!! are very difficult to come by.

I might switch over to a jewler or a chef.

aig, who are you in the guild? what class are you?

I'm actually leaning away from Eng again. Really can't make up my mind.

aigomorlo = Kuz. Our other hyper-leveling warrior meathead

the problem with the armor crafting right now is the dearth of mats (Well, don't tell that to Kaln...). Granted--that is primarily iron, which can be gathered, but I think the amount of metal/refinement is so much greater compared to cloth, that the greater rarity of cloth is somewhat balanced out.

For me, it's mostly been the fine mats--bone chips, blood, venom, to where I can't discover anything anymore, and I simply get stuck.

HOWEVER--I was playing around with discovery again last night and randomly created a recipe that I used in in beta to spam my crafting levels: vitality runes. For tailor, it is 1 bolt of jute, 1 stretched leather pieces. I must have had 30 of those in beta--I was just mailing them to everyone in the guild, haha.

So, this stupid, cheap discovery cost me lots of time by ignoring it for so many levels now. I went from stuck at 45 to now 50, able to unlock master insignias, discover shoulder pad with master insignia --> level 56. But yeah...out of mats again

so, that's the take home message. Just go to discovery and plug in various combinations of things until a mystery craftable pops up. Boom! Even if you can't craft anything, you will see parts of recipes--I have one for artifice, which is totem, + dust, + weak blood + something--I don't currently have that something, and I don't know what it is. And I don't know what it will make...but it's a recipe that seems to depart from all the other standard recipe templates, so it must be good. Maybe it needs rare material?

It's a rather brainless method, because the discovery window will limit the items you can use on the crafting table based on what you've already added, so you will never make something that doesn't work. Just plug and play until you find a proper combo.

Did you see the link that dies now included in the OP, about crafting? there is also a thread about maxing cooking, as it seems to be the current cheapest, and easiest for leveling (I had heard the opposite a few days ago, heh)

Yeah, but does grouping work?

Hey, don't you remember? We got in a group last night!

(nevermind the 30 minutes or so it took for our group to warp in together on our dungeon run earlier in the evening)

I was trying to group with my wife last night. We were both in the primary instance in the first Asura zone and it didn't work properly. Very discouraging.

the one thing i don't like about the crafting system is that all crafts use the same secondary mats. like vials of blood, totems, etc. i mean i get the idea that it essentially forces you into leveling them 1 at a time... but... i just hate that i'm blocked from progressing because you have to have those secondary mats to make modifiers for everything.

i probably wouldn't even notice if it weren't for the trading post being down lol

yeah, in hindsight, I realize now that I spent vastly more free gold on mats in the trading post during beta that I realized. I do remember buying stacks of cloth and what not, more than anything, traveling back and forth from post to bank to station in Divinity (I did this a lot, and this was before they added the bank panels to crafting window--which is the first thing I noticed in BW3 and I jumped for joy over that).

that being said, most of the fine mats were easy enough to come by. the only problem I had was weak blood--almost non-existent. Now, I'm seeing way more of that, and very little bone fragments/scales.

I'm pretty disappointing in the new skill system. I loved the Guild Wars 1 skill system, map progression yielded newer and more better skills, elite skills were another thing I thought, and still think is ingenious; killing an elite monster while using a 'signet of capture' to 'capture' and learn that particular boss' elite skill, but in GW2 all you do is stick with the same 2-3 weapons and most of the 6-9 skills are pretty useless in PvE, on top of them being 20-60+ second cool downs. I am also against the removal of resources, mashing all of your 1-5 abilities when they're off cool down is not very appealing to me. I have a level 21 Mesmer and 32 Warrior currently, I am looking into Elementalist because of the Attunements (fire, water, air and earth) which multiply the number of weapon skills each weapon gives you by four.

I really like mixing up skills and using the same 5 to 9 abilities for 30+ hours is a snooze. Feel free to correct my points or tell me otherwise, just my two cents. :|

tl;dr: I don't like what they did with the current skill system and GW1's would've been more enjoyable to me.

figures. It was quite unpredictable during beta--essentially, specific items simply wouldn't allow purchase. I could by stacks of cloth just fine, but for whatever reason, buying weak blood or bone simply wouldn't work for a day at a time.

it makes me wonder--the only problems I noticed in beta with the game, are the only problems that persist right now: grouping, market, and guild functions (though, guild issues didn't seem to be a big problem in beta)

Been playing and reached lvl 44 so far. Love the game thus far. Only a couple of things I have problems with.

1) Lack of AH.. which is now fixed so this is a non-issue now

2) Black iron chest drop contents are MEH. Why buy a key if you are going to get worthless junk from the chest? I just delete the chests now if I don't have a key as they take up too many precious inventory spots.

3) Crafting SUCKS. Everything takes those damn blue crafting drops. The problem is, at a certain point in EVERY tier of crafting, ie copper, iron, steel, etx you need to make MASTER versions of the"insignia/sigil/whatever" to make items. Those take 8 of either bone, claws, fangs, venom, totems, blood, scales, and whatnot to make. ALL the crafting classes need the exact same items except cooking. Which wouldn't be so bad if they weren't such a pain in the ass to farm. Average drop rate for any 1 crafting is about 1 in 40 kills. That's at least 10 minutes of farming for a single blue crafting drop. What's worse is you need EIGHT of a single type. What you get is semi random based on the monster you are fighting. Of course bones drop from humanoids and scales from lizards/fish creatures. But blood drops every where for example. So most monsters have a chance to drop at least 2 and some much more of the blue crafting pieces. I spent 8 hours farming today to barely complete 8 to 14 of the crafting mats I needed to make like 7 insignias. It's dumb. The drop rate on these need to be looked at.

After some grinding, I'm into the 50s on my Warrior. Still having a great time with exploring and story with a bit of WvWvW mixed in. Now trying to get more serious about figuring out my build.

I tried to pug the first level 30 instance and it didn't end well. None of us knew what we were doing, but at first we still managed to pull together and started making progress through the lieutenants. Then people started getting frustrated and bickering until a couple of them dropped. So, it ended up being a waste of time, but at least I got to confirm that the dungeon experience is pretty similar to other MMOs I've played. So far, this seems to be the one area where Anet hasn't made many changes or improvements in the system, which I guess may be good for players coming from other games. Maybe I'll try to guest over on the AT guild server for some runs, whenever they turn on guesting.

I also traded gold for gems to buy a sixth slot for my new mesmer. I figure gem prices will go up with inflation when the trading post is fully operational and I wanted to create the new character as soon as possible.

I've been gathering, but haven't done much with crafting except to make myself some 8-slot boxes. I've also been holding off and sitting on a lot of stuff until the Trading Post comes back online for everyone. BTW, I just read a tip that said you may want to level crafting at higher levels (60+), since it will give you the same percentage of levels at the high end.

I don't know if it was already mentioned, but Anet said they had 1 million pre-purchases and hit 400K concurrent users during headstart.

Had zero problems doing the level 30 instance as a pug. I will say this, after doing all the raiding on TSW nightmare instances, that was a breeze to do. Since people can zerg back, and I know how to live. I was able to stay alive through every boss fight so that people could come back and zerg the boss until it died. Thus we never wiped. Really, the boss fights are pretty tame in that instance.

Leveling up crafting is so annoying While I do see that the Karma vendors sell some decent armor I still think the wide variety of item sets you can craft make it worth it to level them.

I have great fun playing my Mesmer (only 32 though) with its dual swords/staff set-up, but I have been missing how much fun thieves are since that's what I played most in the beta Pretty sure I've spent more time on my crafting than I have on trying to grind out levels, currently 107 tailor and 112 weaponsmith.

I must say, while I haven't taken part in WvWvW yet, looking at the stats tab for Stormbluff yesterday was funny, when the entire circle of structures owned was just completely blue

On another note, since I prefer ranged classes typically for MMO's (though melee usually ends up being stronger overall) is a rifle and bow/1H wep + warhorn warrior viable? I would think that given all the boons and stat bonuses the warrior has available to itself along with having the highest defense armor type in the game that it'd be a pretty tanky ranged attacker. Anyone got input on how well that works out?

awww just got disconnected. was having fun too. the world events are pretty cool. It's bad ass seeing a whole group of people convene on the same spot.

Yeah I was having fun as well. Got to level 15 and my first green items. Participated in my first big world event (purple behemoth in swamp). Was trying to find the last two vistas in queensland to get completed with everything and got kicked

I've been upset about the drop rate of fine crafting materials as well, especially as compared to the beta events. I think diversity would be fine...but I think crafting is quite excellent despite the drop rate--teh requirements for better and better insignias are no big deal. Once you get past master, it's another tier of fine crafting items anyway.

of course, this wouldn't be a problem once they get the auction house running. Did much of my crafting through that before. But don't say it's impossible, when we have a few in the guild that are into 200+ armor smithing, one just hit 300 tonight.
Also, you should be doing discoveries. levels much faster

as for the farming and actual drop rate--I solved that issue tonight when I finally brought myself into southern wayfarers--the grawl cave area. This seems to be where ANet wants all of this to drop--yes, cloth, too. It's been a supreme bitch finding that.
