How do you use armor runes? I tried double-clicking on a rune to put on an armor that said 0/2 Rune blahblah but it still shows as 0/2? I imagine it doesn't go there then?
I don't use Team Speak, not sure about the rest of the gang. If we ever get a Mumble server up instead I wouldn't mind joining in, maybe even a Vent would be cool (I don't like Vent all that much).
Anyone higher than 150 in Tailoring or Weaponsmithing? Just wondering how hard it's going to get to farm the mats later on
has the quality of TS improved? last i used it it was pure crap compaired to Vent - this was 4+ years ago
It does not show active until you wear the piece.
Ah. Okay. I guess I better get to leveling a few more levels.
Which ATI drivers are people using? I have a 5770 which I thought would manage a bit better than it is in wvw (i5-2500k cpu) but I haven't updated drivers in a month or two.
lol. I have a 5850 running 12.3? I haven't updated since ~early April. The game has run smooth as butter for me throughout betas and now--though I haven't yet ventured into WvW.
it has. i used to prefer vent as well.
i think they are on par with each other and both of them are light years better than mumble, imho. i really dont get why people 'like' mumble. i can see using it because it is free, but comparatively speaking, it sucks. sounds terrible and it horrible to adjust.
of course, none of that matters when you get on TS and no one talks. *cough*drebo*cough just giving ya a hard time.

We now have some PvP bonuses ready to go (we have influence bonus and I queued +5 supply bonus for guild-owned outposts--15 hours build, because it's cheap).
which brings up something else: influence. We are pretty good at gaining influence on a regular basis, but we are starting to approach the more expensive upgrades which will take out large chunks of it, as well as time. To upgrade economy and architecture (better bonuses, larger guild bank, etc), we will essentially eat up all of our current accumulated influence.
That being said, I think it would be fair to find a time some time soon where most of us can be online and use up one of these banners and put a nice chunk of influence in our guild. Also: PvP. DO we want an organized PvP team going, perhaps a scheduled time to do it? I haven't yet tried any of it myself, but I would like to. I also think it's a much quicker way of earning influence.
I'd be up for some scheduled guild events. The hardest thing I've found is a time that works without staying up too late. Personally, I try to get ready for bed by 10pm EST, which is barely evening for PST. If there is enough interest, I'd like to be part of an earlier or weekend group.

is there a way to get full screen windowed mode to act like it does in WoW?
in WoW you could set it to windowed mode and them maximize the window so it filled the screen and you were still able to pull your mouse outside the game. this was great when running dual monitors as you didn't have to alt+tab to do anything on the other monitor
GW has options that sound like it should work the same way but does not, if i maximize the windowed game the mouse gets locked to it and i have to alt tab to get it out
I had this issue as well. I could not get my mouse to move to my other screen no matter what setting I used. Then for some reason, while still in full screen windowed mode, I alt+tabbed and when I went back it was working as it should. Not certain it was the alt+tab, but who knows. I can say that I am playing in full screen windowed mode and my mouse is not locked on my main screen.
If enough people want, we could even fracture into teams.
Basically I am EST also. So I could form EST and central people who would want to play together, then someone from West coast could coordinate west coast and mountain time or whatever.
Depends on how many wants to play/do this I would think.
On Saturday my wife said she needed to go to the mall and while we are there we should check gamestop to see if they have any copies of GW2, sweet.
Installed it, patching took long enough that it wasn't ready until Sunday.
Tried playing Sunday but grouping was a huge pain. Couldn't get on the same overflow in the human starting area pretty much any time after that first time we logged in (which must've been pure luck). We ran around and did the city PoI, vistas and WPs but after that couldn't really play together in the same overflow zone and never saw the way to share a personal story instance. So I played solo and she went off to make a billion different characters.
Whatever they patched Monday seemed to fix the grouping stuff (or the Sylvari area is just more stable for some reason) so we actually did do some grouping stuff.
Few thoughts from her and myself. We went EQ->WoW->AoC->WoW->ToR->GW2.
- After exploring the lands a bit she commented on how nice looking it was and how ugly ToR was despite only just having come out and I have to agree. Maybe later it becomes homogenous and boring but the opening areas I've seen are all great looking. Interesting terrain with some variety of landscape types. The vistas/pois entice you to wander over and get a good luck at the world.
- Grouping feels almost pointless. I think it was broken when we tried it Sunday so that may not be 100% true. But when doing those hearts progress for anything that requires clicking isn't shared. Sometimes the things you click stay around for both group members and sometimes not so you never know when being in a group is going to be a waste. Killing is fine though I think everyone in the group has to tag to get credit instead of group credit for tagging stuff. I can't tell if there is an xp bonus to grouping. It would be nice if the event medal was the same throughout the group, I know that would require some kind of work to ensure people didn't just spread out in a group to do different events but still.
- Lack of auto follow is annoying.
- Why oh why can't we just trade person to person. After finishing an event and spam looting the corpses we usually pull off to the side to see if we got loot the other can use and then...we mail it to each other. It is instant, and that's good but it is incredibly awkward.
- Love that everyone gets to loot the body and the loot is different.
- Glad the join in overflow is working and the join in instance is working.
- Really enjoying the event mechanics. Makes wandering around feel interesting, you never know what will pop up. I do wonder if this will not be as interesting when these zone are less populated and doing it alone is difficult to impossible. Especially annoying will be if all of the contested waypoints stay lost.
- Wife is finding the combat a bit challenging. The amount of movement expected is definitely ramped up for someone that has only played those MMOs I listed and the Sims.
- Since you unlock weapon skills so quickly but utility skills take time I do worry that it will feel very samey for the vast majority of the game. We'll see if this is a good thing or bad thing but it is definitely different.
Long story short enjoying what little of it I've played, feels rough around the edges and some design decisions make me scratch my head but for a game that has been out for a week officially it is relatively smooth. Long term it'll be interesting to see if my wife picks up and enjoys the more active combat or if that is the deal breaker. For ToR I though the heavy story emphasis would be bad since she typically hates the story side of things but the stories drew her in so we'll see if I'm wrong on this one too.
My story drove me in.
Long story short, I had to kill my future parallel universe dictator of the world self in battle. And that was only up to level 25 story. I haven't continued more on it just yet.
However, you cna play around with your class with the trait system, in ways you won't truly appreciate until ~level 30 or even 40. Your favored weapon sets may indeed get stale by then, but investigating and respeccing various trait trees, you might find a completely different set, that offers a completely novel class within your class, and a new play style. That is something I haven't gotten from other MMOs. :\
