got my account back again and restored. lets see how long it takes to lose it again...

when i log in, still no evidence that my account was compromised. characters were not moved, items and gold still there...so wtf arenanet?

I'm curious, does AT have an active guild presence? I started GW2 with a couple friends but rarely see them in game and the guild I'm in is a complete ghost town, when people are on they never talk :/.

A good guild makes all the difference in an MMO.

we are relatively active. ...but was mostly silent last night. there are a handful of us that can be found on our talk server regularly.

There are several dungeon runs going each night.

I find the endgame..lacking.

I find myself wishing that more stuff had a grind to it. It justs does not "feel" right that you can get 2 charactors level 80 in a month.

WvW has no motivation to do it after awhile. The bonuses are not worth it for wvw, let alone the fractured comunity of it. Oh i killed invader..that means..nothing. Oh look something that increases power for server, that is gone so fast not worth noteing.

Don't get me started on gear, none of that matters in the end.

That game just needs to slow down, and make WvW actually usefull.

Also the game is changing with the DEV's telling us what we can and cant do because it messes with the player based economy.

Why touch and mess with a player based economy? its no longer player based.

The dev's are also telling us we can not grind the same area over and over again. Its called dimimished returns which is absolutely bullshit.

So what if someone plays 8 hours a day, and someone plays 2.
The guy who plays 8 should be rewarded, and the guy who plays 2 shouldnt.

Its like how life is, you put time and effort into it, you should be rewarded, but instead the Dev's say no.. you should be playing Explorer Wars2, and not Guild wars 2.

Once i finish explorer, and get my legendary, i will rant a storm on the offical forums at all the unfair things they are doing now i am truely at end game.

But if they NERF a couple more things i like in this game, i am gonna shelf it and goto boarderlands 2.

When people tell me i cant play the game i want to, i tell them i will play a new game.


Anyhow this is almost feeling like Diablo3 all over again.

1. Thou shall use Trade Post, and Not conduct in private trade without a hugh risk of scam.
2. Thou shall not make lots of gold from farming 1 spot, because it kills economy.
3. Thou shall spend rediculous amounts of gold on stupid gold sinks like 15-20 slot bags because we want to control economy.
4. Thou shall feel sad when everyone has exploited something and we fix it and you are left to sit there unbalanced.
5. Thou shall Explore every last inch of our world more so then grind, because you running arround doing broken skill quests, and doing broken jump puzzles where camera resets make it harder takes more time.

So wait... why am i playing this still?

Yup did a couple explorer mode dungeon runs yesterday with, I think, Aigomorla and a few others. AC explore was not bad, CoF 3rd choice was big time fail. 2nd choice was -ok- but time consuming.

but yeah, all complaints are completely valid, I think. ...and you're going to have to grow thick skin and get used to the nerfs/changes because it is a certainty with ANet.

At this moment, I really have no interest in grinding for legendaries. Some day--likely very soon--I will be drawn to the sparkly, but the pain of it just looks daunting for me ATM. Granted, I do like what they did with dungeon tokens right now--you actually get twice what you previously would have on dungeon completion.

The game has plenty of room for expansion, and I see it everywhere I explore. I think....40%? of the current game map is inactivated in this initial release, and I'm quite intrigued as to what they will do with Ring of Fire (final maps in the original GW prophecies campaign) and if we will see more work done to the Cantha and Elona worlds.

It's certainly not nearly as developed as the final product of GW1--but that is to be expected. Is it further along that GW1 was at the time of release? Yes, certainly, but players 8 years out have much different expectations today form these type of games.

As it stands--for me--the best way of getting all you can out of this game is playing several classes of different races. You really do get enough of different content and varied play styles to make it fun for a rather long time...assuming you don't feel that the general event-driven map completion play isn't overly grindy or unrewarding.

u guys all rolled different classes and then rolled a warrior.

imediately after rolling warrior, i hear all of you guys go OMFG WTF WARRIOR OP! HB OP

sorry but im very greedy when it comes to wealth.
Hence why i rolled a warrior.

Why would i want to goto a class which u guys were at b4 then swaped to warrior calling the warrior OP?



id rather stay on my OP warrior and farm farm farm until i can get my legendary.
Not really interested in other classes, ive played them in BW, and realized quickly in PVE, there all subpar compared to the warrior in regards to farming and map completion.
lemme do my dayam farming.. lemme get my dayam legendary, then i'll think about swaping classes.

But as it stands, im nowhere close to my legendary.
I probably have around a networth of 88g if i include my 170 ecto's ive been collecting and 184 orichalcum ingots ive been also collecting.

AC was quick because we already knew how to do every single stage efficiently and what to look out for with certain mob packs etc. Even then we had some people dying. As for CoF, that was our first run through it ever so it took considerably longer since we had no idea what to do for most of it. I think if we practiced it a bit more it'd end up roughly the same time as AC with the exception of that veteran spawning room. The boss there is by no means hard, it just takes a while if we can't synchronize when we kill off the acolytes and start bashing the crystal together.

If you want hard, try Arah 3rd path's 3rd boss >_>

Warrior is easy, not OP. Now Hundred Blades in comparison to every other skill on the Warrior (actually that spin is pretty powerful too) is OP, I mean at lower levels I saw some sword and axe warriors, sometimes those that used shields and stuff. Skip to Arah and you get:


Tells you something about the weapon balancing imo. It's pretty freaking obvious they favor greatswords too (not just for Warrior), the best looking legendaries are greatswords, the greatsword is the only wep with more than 1 legendary, and they even made a special double-legendary that combines the 2 "base" legendaries while still maintaining the nicest animations. In comparison most of the other legendaries are hideous (even compared to level 10 crafted weapons).

Is there any free way in-game to obtain extra bank slots? Or do I really, really have to waste $6 on 30 extra banks slots?

You can exchange in game gold for gems, and vice versa. I for instance am sitting on 3600 gems currently.

Hit O, should open the Gem Store. On the left should be an icon of 2 arrows in a circular pattern, that's the gold/gem exchange. Open that up and just keep popping numbers in until you get the amount of gems you want and exchange. Due note that you can try and fine-tune down to the coppers but the rate slightly changes constantly so it might become invalid and say Network error if you take too long.

actually, my problem is that I find warrior boring as fuck. So I played it a bit for the novelty of it, up to level 43 now...and I'm already moving on, I think.


again, and like I said--I have zero desire for the legendary--class really is negligible at this point for how you want to obtain it, an d ability to farm for it, so that isn't even the issue. I simply don't want a legendary...so I'm just messing around with all the classes.

..which is how I played GW1. Of course, getting each and every class geared-up, mind you. but so it goes...

and wealth...poly got wealthy as fuck by running around in circles in LA, after about 4 hours. class has nothing to do with obtaining wealth in this game.

Yeah, diminishing returns really kills life after 80 for me. I've been leveling alts instead. I just hope they rethink DR and tone it down in the near future. Maybe lower drop rates overall, but keep them constant or greatly extend the limits where DR kicks in. They should offer a bonus for playing in different areas like the daily achievements, rather than penalize average players for staying in one area for too long.

I used gold to trade for gems for extra character slots and bank slots early on before spending on anything else. I wanted to get the upgrades before the exchange rate got worse. I'm also saving more gems for any interesting future items or upgrades they might add to the store.

Has anyone tried the FXAA tool for this game?

It works quite well to my surprise (can't make it work in some games). I'm still trying a couple of values left and right to come up with something good, basically I'm mostly trying to increase the textures' sharpness (not too much though otherwise it can be worse than default textures). I kinda like my latest values, although the colors "vibrancy" and clarity of the text is a little too tempered with, so I'll have to toy around to adjust that a bit, but so far it looks good enough for my tastes.

Without any tweaks at all:



With my latest tweaks:



Look at the text ("Ashford" and "Account Medals") and the character's fur and fur color and patterns clarity, and more details showing on the horns and some parts of the armor and coat. So far, in-game, the same values give a good look mostly to characters, water and some of the fauna textures, but not everything is quite there yet (text, colors in general lose some vibrancy, etc).

There's a lot of things I haven't touched at all such as the actual anti-aliasing settings (and Tone Map, HDR, Bloom, etc). Note that in the character selection screen the character models themselves seem to lack any anti-aliasing settings I have, be it from the driver settings or in-game settings. The anti-aliasing settings do apply after I load up a map though, it just doesn't seem to work in the character selection screen for some reason.

The only change i notice is the text seems clearer. Its odd actually, it seems like a competely new font. lol

hmm, it looks like someone went mad-crazy with unsharp mask in photoshop in the second picture....and that's not a good thing, imo. :hmm:

Anyway, no as I mentioned I am using the FXAA tool:

As for any changes looking "like" it was made in Photoshop well that's coincidence I guess? I for one never use Photoshop. I mean I only tried it from a trial like two years ago and got lost in its interface. I'm just playing with sliders on that FXAA tool, very simple but of course not all values give universally good-looking results (and it's also a matter of personal preferences). Additionally, side note, at the moment the values I use are unstable and it makes the video driver crash (and then recovers).

The game itself does not crash however, just the driver. I would play normally for 'x' amount of time (can be anywhere from 1 hour to 4+ hours) but then the screen goes black suddenly (with some I/O activity and the HDD light going bunkers for about 10 seconds), and then I get a message in the desktop about the driver crashing. Then the screen comes back to normal and I can literally just continue playing, the game itself never crashed at all.

When I am not using the tool at all none of that driver crashing ever happens so yeah... I just need to find some better values (happened as well in Mass Effect 3).

what I mean is that looking at the text and the surfaces, it appears as though it was applied with an overgenerous turn through the unsharp mask tool.

I'm not saying that I think that was done--that's just what it looks like when someone gets "sharpness" happy.

It did sharpen the textures, but in a game that's aiming for a painterly aesthetic... I'm not sure that's necessarily a good thing. But to each their own.

Also interestingly, that pastel, water-colored background (of Lion's Arch?) looks pretty awful in the second pic. I wonder if there's a happy medium between the two, a halfway point where you do get sharper textures but still retain the rich colors and clearer text of pic1.

Got to lvl 26 on my warrior, and it is pretty ridiculous how easy it is once I paired a greatsword with the regeneration signet. Mobs five levels over me or getting jumped by five mobs? No problem. Seems to be no 'oh shit' moves though so far if you do get over your head, and the runspeed is horrible compared to my ele, but overall I can see how a warrior could be the best farmer.

Hit lvl 10 in spvp also last night. Went back to staff and seem to be doing pretty good with it. The occasional Mesmer and Thief give me issues, but I haven't been hundred bladed at all in a few days. One Thief burst me somehow, after being in stealth for a long time - 22k health and 1400 toughness, and he burnt me down in under 2 seconds somehow...gotta play that class more to figure out what he did.
