I'm still new to MMOs (I've only played 3 months of SWTOR before this) and was wondering if there were any good GW2 sites/articles on how to build a good class. I'm a level 11 warrior and am not sure what weapons to use or how to best allocate my traits. I can find different people's warrior builds but I'm more looking for information on why certain configurations make a good build so I can learn to build a good one myself. Also, I'm wondering if skills and traits are fixed for good or if there's a way in the game to reallocate the points if I make a mistake.

You can reset your traits at any profession trainer for a fee.

Additionally you can swap the Major traits at any time outside combat for free.

A general basis for a build is too have offensive tools and defensive tools - for example if you go for lines that give power and critical rate it might be a good idea to go for +toughness in the items.

Some advocate the best way to build is to allow you to be able spec in the most weapons.

A popular build is the 10/30/0/30/0 Greatsword/Shout Build.
A more defensive variant is the 10/0/30/30/0, generally relying on mace/shield or sword/shield or plain hammer with Shouts.

A 0/20/30/10/0 will allow you to trait a different number of weapons on demand - yes, that leaves 10 points to add somewhere else.

Going Arms early on open the infamous Deep Strike trait, that give +40 precision for every equipped signet that isn't on recharge and it is stupid powerful early on and up to around level 60 or 70.

You'd think with a wave of bot bans and the price of nearly everything on the TP going up, there'd be less gold available to spend on gems, but the gold to gem conversion rate has skyrocketed as well. I thought 77 silver was a little high to pay for 100 gems, now it's 1.62 gold.

You can retrait at any time by speaking to a trainer (they have a large book icon on the map) and selecting the second dialogue option.

As far as stats go, you don't want to be a jack of all trades sort of build. This is what I did on my first character while leveling, I tried to dump points into Power, Precision, Condition Damage, and Toughness/Vitality. Simply put, it didn't work, you're much better off stacking three skills which have good synergy together - Power, Precision, Crit Damage if you want to go pure glass cannon. Power, Toughness, Vitality if you want excellent durability..etc.

Repec your points frequently if you want to keep trying new builds, it's dirt cheap to do so..

I have a warrior myself (L22 now) and one thing I have learned in the two weeks I have had GW2 is that there is no #1 or most common warrior build. I have scoured the forums and the net and no one has the same exact build or even close to it. They are all over the place with their trait points allocation and they all claim theirs is the best while being different from everyone else. There are so many variables and ways to play a warrior apparently there just is not a common build to be found anywhere. Basically you are forced to come up with your own depending on your play style and preference. Some people love this concept but others will curse it because its hard to figure out what is best even at a basic level. Some people love to experiment and try different things while others won't want to spend that much time and effort trying to figure it all out and probably give up in the process.

Luckily the warrior itself is fun to play and its hard to make a really bad one. But try to figure out every ounce of maximum performance from the start is a bit frustrating and time consuming. There just isn't a best build or best way to play the profession it seems.

Mainly because as you said, there are so many ways to do it. Off the top of my head, my build is 30/20/0/20/0 with power+vitality+toughness gear. I use a mix of greatsword+ax/warhorn+bow+rifle (it all depends on what I am doing with needing ranged. Single target, rifle is where it is at, but WvWvW, bow rules for aoe).

My skills depend on the situation. I mostly use shouts with a couple stances thrown in from time to time (typical dungeon run skills: "shake it off" + "for great justice" + "fear me" with the elite signet, with times adding in "frenzy" and/or "endure pain").

For the added traits, I have things like greatsword skills recharge 20% faster, +70 power to allies, additional damage with adrenaline meter full, shouts recharge 20% faster, (when using bow, longbow has additional range, longbow skills recharge 20% faster).

There is so many ways to play a warrior. I am currently running around with Axe\Axe and Sword\Shield. I like the defense of sword + shield and I like the DPS of Axe\Axe. I have done Axe\Axe and GS. But I didnt like that lack of defense in those times when you grab more than you can handle.

My warrior uses axe/shield + rifle. Just something I tried after testing 2h sword and I like the style better. Also I just PvE so that is another variable that I do others may or may not do. I only have the two professions but I'm guessing all the professions have no one best way to spec or play. Comes down to personal preference based on what you are going to do with the character. I haven't locked in a final build idea with my warrior. I'm kind of working on a mix of two or three I read about for PvE play and going from there. Basically using just Str, Arms, and Def as the three lines and once I figure it all out then adjust from there. Its the best I can come up with for PvE leveling at this point. So far its working pretty good for me.

Main hand axe #1 attack does a crapload of damage and the burst isn't too shabby either.

I think if you are having defense issues with GS it is simply that you need different armor. Really, nothing beats GS in terms of damage output. Hundred blades is simply that good. I do 7-8k damage in AC with hundred blades, while also doing 700-1000 damage with standard attacks. I also have enough toughness+vit to survive/tank most situations. There are still times where I will have to dis-engage, get out of combat to allow auto-healing, and get back in, but that depends more on the group than anything else.

Personally, I can't see how anyone can play a warrior without a warhorn in one of their weapon slots for the speed buff as well as the removal of cripple.

So either I was on a real fail team last night (I suspect this is a large part of it), and/or they changed a lot of fractals damages to make it much harder. Now I know it was at least in part a fail team as they had no clue how to do the harpies map (aside from the knockback which seems to be much more frequent now), the bio-boss should have been easy if people know what they are doing or simply listen to one who does. Well, I think we wiped 8 times on the bio-boss. I even took off all my armor after the 3th time since I knew none of them "got it" yet. It didn't help that it was a team of squishies (3 ele's, a ranger, and me in my guardian). We initially had 2 guardians and 3 ele's, but ANet pushed a patch which rebooted our clients, and we lost the guardian when that happened.

Anyway, the ability to kill the the one mini-boss in the cage before releasing them was fixed. Not that big a deal, but what is a big deal is the final boss absolutely destroys people now. The asura that is shielded and invulnerable now with every hit of his wand/spell does agony, with him spamming it constantly. We wiped within 30 seconds! That was the final straw and we gave up.

did you all have infused trinkets to protect from agony?

No, but I have run at least 1-2 dozen lvl 10's before and never had this problem. While yes, I have been hit with agony attacks in the past, it was out of control in that run. Previously it was only occasional agony attack from the one boss, typically being a non-agony one. This fight every attack from the asura was agony, with him spitting out streams (like the spiders in AC shoot poison) out with groups of 6-8 rapid fires, all of which were agony. And it was non-stop (with maybe a 1 second pause before shooting out another 6-8 stream). No one can survive getting hit by 20-30 of them in the span of a few seconds. As I said, the entire team went from full health to dead in seconds, when his attack wasn't even an AoE.

havent u heard me rant many times that the difficulty of fractals takes a nose dive upwards.

Woop commented that it didnt, but it does.

And kell im at lvl15 right now.. and 15 is a PITFA....
A lot of places where we could just skip though, isnt a skip.
It has mobs now, and while the enemy doesnt hit harder, there skills do.

Its the skills you need to watch for.

At lvl15 what i could tank though 3-4 special hits will pwn me in 1, leaving bearly any life left, and then angony pwns me until i use save yourself shout.

Well, last night I got my first useful ascended ring (the power+vit+toughness one, which for me is perfect), and I then spent the cash to craft the "mighty" offensive infusion upgrade for the upgrade slot (Which was freaking expensive if you ask me with 100 powerful bloods!!!!, an eldritch scroll!!!!!, 20 mystic coins, and a 250 stack of passion fruit). At some point I will consider getting the ring itself infused, but that costs a !!!!!250!!!!!!!! stack of ecto!!!!!!! (that is ~83g at today's prices). It will be a while.

I am currently saving up for the ascended back piece. I am much closer to crafting it with the fractals then I am from T6 materials, so I will probably be there in another week or 2 (just need the 1350 fractals now, as I have enough for the gift of ascension, I have my glob/vials of mist essense, and the skillpoints for the stones/crystals).

Slacker.

As for me, I'm still on pace to get my Legendary in 7.3 years. Give or take.

So A.Net really needs to do the following:

1) Roll out a proper failover/fault tolerance into their servers (so that you can update the backend of a particular server while keeping players still connected by shifting the players from one server to another overflow server).

2) Schedule maintenance based on off-time/peek hours on servers for that region.

Last night was just the latest in this fiasco because neither of the above two exist.

weird, #1) supposedly exists or, at least, it did at one point.

Not sure if it's the same with FoTM, but for all other dungeons, reset is set for about 3 hours for anyone that happens to be in a dungeon instance as soon as the reset is announced.

that being said, there was supposed to be this system in place from the beginning, though that really isn't the case.

nah i think kell is talking about the outage last night.

AP and i were stuck outside the login screen for more then one hour in which i thought my account was hacked.

it took me a while to realize it was the login server, becuase the forums didnt even work on guildwars2 for a good while.

The outage was at least 3 hours that I know of, possibly longer (as I went to bed before it was fixed). And whatever they did that caused it to go down, kicked everyone out of the game as well, but not all at once. I was in FotM trying to do my daily, and in the boss fight on the 2nd random level, and during it, one person lost connection. We finished the fight and go to the 3rd level, and then another person gets disconnected. As it is hard enough going with 4, doing it with 3 is almost impossible so we were just about to exit, when I know I got booted, and then could no longer connect.

Via getting more toughness, vitality, and healing on my warrior. I am thinking about dropping the axe\shield combo I have been using as an alternate to axe\axe and going back to Greatsword. And any chance they bring out a 2H axe in future updates?

I have found that for healing issues on warrior (at least for dungeon running), the combination of the passive signet and Dolyak runes, you are pretty good with power+vit+toughness armor/weapons. You also have something like 29k health (which is why the passive regens from both the signet and runes are enough to work).

as far as adding weapons to existing classes and build structures--I doubt it. The trait system is already tied to the available weapons, so making something new for current classes is unlikely.

Expect new classes with the new campaigns, whenever they are released, which might contain new weapons (like the Dervish in GW1 with their scythes).

One thing I would like to see, though this is also doubtful, is to see new weapon combos--like scepter/scepter. Wouldn't require a revamp of traits, but creating off-hand skills for a weapon that doesn't currently exist in the off-hand of any class makes this unlikely as well. It would be nice to see more skills. Still my number one gripe of what has changed since the first GW--very limited build structures in comparison.

Back to axe\axe + GS and loving it. Sucks about no 2H axe. I like the flexibility of axes aoe spam vs GS.

So, I am late to the game, picked up GW2 over the weekend. Stormbluff Isle is of course generally always full as others have mentioned. I don't remember what server I'm on.

Anyhow, I played with the Engineer and Warrior up to around level 10. I'm really liking the warrior in this game, so leveled a bit more to like 12 or 13...

I am not sure if I like the whole "no trinity" thing or not, as I liked to sometimes play a healer or sometimes play a tank, usually I liked healing "5 man" type content, and tanking raid type content....
