So, I am late to the game, picked up GW2 over the weekend. Stormbluff Isle is of course generally always full as others have mentioned. I don't remember what server I'm on.

Anyhow, I played with the Engineer and Warrior up to around level 10. I'm really liking the warrior in this game, so leveled a bit more to like 12 or 13...

I am not sure if I like the whole "no trinity" thing or not, as I liked to sometimes play a healer or sometimes play a tank, usually I liked healing "5 man" type content, and tanking raid type content....

if you want to be the closest to tank, go warrior or guardian (probably guardian)

if you want to be the closest thing to a healer...go guardian. Engi and Ele can do this decently well, but you have to be pure heals, with little room for anything else. unlike with other MMO, this will not work very well as the "back line" is a nebulous concept the way that aggro works--or doesn't work. So, Guardian is generally best because they can equally tank and heal in one go.

let me know if want an invite. even if you never get onto stormbluff, you can always join for dungeon runs, which we are doing nightly at the moment. --I advise getting to at least level 60 or so for the first dungeon. It's difficult for non-80s, even with tons of experience.

Even more so for the "squishy" classes as you tend to get hit once and are dead (in a dungeon). And my definition of a "squishy" class is one that can't fight 4 or 5 mobs at once without having to analyze the situation, make sure certain skills are off cooldown, etc...

But yeah, if you like tank or healing, you might want to give guardian a try. You will most definitely level faster with a warrior, but guardian is a really nice class still especially for dungeon running, and most certainly for FotM (where you will want groups to have at least 1 or 2 when you start doing the higher/harder levels. I think last night I was in a group of 4 guardians and 1 mesmer, and we rocked).

I picked Magumma because that's the only other one I saw on the first page. I know you can change servers but I think there's a "cooldown" between server changes. I don't play often but I'd switch just to possibly play with others on here. There's no real connection I have to Magumma.

Early AM EST (5-7am) seems to be your best bet in making the switch to Stormbluff if you want to make the attempt. I think the way it currently works is that the algorithm for determining if a server is full is based partly on current number of people logged in (as well as some historical data).

On another note, the great fractal gathering continues. I hit a personal milestone last night have over 1000 saved up. I will also say that I had some crazy drops last night with a ton of vials of mist dropping in one of the runs (7 if I remember correctly), as well as a bunch of charged cores, destroyer cores, T6 materials, and a few rares too boot. I sold most them (except the T6 materials) because I am ecto farming so I have a 250 stack to infuse either my backpiece once I have enough fractals to get it.

Thanks for the infos. I Played my Warrior up to 16 last night, and thus far, I'm liking it the best simply because it's very flexible. While the heals are a bit wimpy, I am harder to kill than the engineer was thanks to heavy armor, and I don't have the micromanagement of the turrets that always get one shotted to deal with.

I did start a guardian, but got to level 2 and got bored...

I really don't like playing "1 class" so I'm sure I'll have trouble with the 5 character slots. (In Wow I wound up with 5 level 60 characters in vanilla. I had several level 40-50 characters on another realm that I essentially got bored with and rarely played. )

Anyhow ... I think I'll level the warrior for now. I don't know what server I'm on. I'll be playing pretty casually, so it will probably take me a few weeks to hit 60. Especially as I like to screw with alts.

Cool, I'll see which one I'm on, maybe I'll switch over if I give up on trying to get over to Stormbluff.

Yea, I'm almost never awake during that time period. And I'm not going to change my sleep schedule for a game. Been there, done that ....

Anyhow, If I see it open, I may move, otherwise, eventually two of my friends at the office are planning to buy it once they have funds (one guy has 5 kids, the other has 3 with a 4th in the oven, so, neither of them has money.) So I can always just play with them after they get around to getting it.

turrets can get rather buff when you trait into them, though. there is also the thumper turret, which is a low range, but defense-oriented turret.

It doesn't work as well early on--I like to work with grenade kit in early levels--but once you can trait into turrets, they act as instant-aggro meat shields and are very effective.

Heh has the requirement for Guild Armor Contract always been that you have politics II? I was all excited to finally get my small guild a wearable emblem and was denied. Another 990 influence to go. Seems like a hefty requirement for something so simple.

Interesting, I'm sure I'll probably level a bunch of characters up over the times... Right now I'm still liking the warrior the best, made it to level 21 last night, and I'm liking the fact that with a big hammer I have tons of control, or with a greatsword I can do a decent amount of damage to multiple mobs, or I'm really liking the longbow for single targets.... haven't even bothered with a 1H and shield as of yet...

I need to get some more chacter slots ... not used to this "free to play, pay for bank slots and character slots" stuff ... I'd almost rather pay a monthly fee, hehehe.

Has the christmas crap started and is it interesting at all? Halloween was ok, only decent part was the dungeon for me, though I heard the jump puzzle was amusing.

Well, I did my WvWvW monthly kills in about 3 minutes last night (not exaggerated). I popped into our Stormbluff borderlands server and saw a crapton of messages saying we were losing the garrison. I then looked and the waypoint was still open, so I popped over there, and there were about 70 or so all just starting to capture the lower level of garrison. Now it beats me how I managed to quickly run up the ramps to the next level without getting killed or followed (my guess is that they were more intent on capping then killing a single warrior). I then ran towards the north side and saw that we had a catapult up there (which was pointing the wrong way to shoot at that crowd), which I immediately manned and turned 180 degrees to aim at them. It was a little difficult getting the shots to go over the one wall, and under the central tower, but I got it on my second shot. In the meantime about 20 or so defenders had managed to show up and moved in for a desperate attack just as I got the catapult aimed. And the first shot that I hit them with, it was amazing! I have never seen so many damage numbers pop up at once. I made about 4-5 more shots and combined with the 20 other people attacking we killed them ALL! Our commander was going like nuts saying he had never seen such a complete route before. A bunch of the team was like, how the hell did you manage to get up on that catapult. And just like that, all of my 50 of the WvWvW kills for the monthly were complete (and probably plenty to spare).

I just checked the world transfer and all servers said "very high", so I'm not sure what's going on but I was able to transfer to Stormbluff where my real life friends are at too.

Many balance changes with this Wintersday update as well, most noticeably thus far is the boost in velocity to Ranger arrow attacks and the boost to movement speed with the various profession signets. Not sure why arrow velocity needed to be increased, now if they would only increase the projectile speed of the Guardian's Scepter we'd be all set.

Engineer got a few decent buffs too, explosions have 15% chance to cause bleeding instead of 6%, new trait to cause 5 stacks of vulnerability when immobilizing. Grenade barrage now properly traits up to 1500 range, but still only seems to throw 6 grenades instead of 8. Apparently sigils work with kits too now, I'll have to test that out later, still waiting for weapon stats to stick when using kits, doesn't make sense that elementalist gets that buff and we don't.

They heavily nerfed super elixir though (or fixed an unintended bug), I used to be able to pulse heal for 500-600hp per second with my healing gear, now I can get like 250 per second tops, equal to regeneration boon rates. Had to dump my healing gear for rabid again since it's no longer worth using. Pretty lame because even before it was tough to keep people healed up, now it's basically trash.

This warrior passing through 45 is the best warrior since DAOC's warrior in an MMORPG that I have played. Loaded up with toughness, healing, and vitality with some power. This guy just keeps going like the energizer bunny.

I usually like to play archer type classes because I just love the play style especially if they have pets but between my Ranger and Warrior I have to say the warrior is more enjoyable. He can just do so much more with mobs and do it easier than my ranger. However my guys are just in their mid 20s so we'll see how things go as I level them up. So far though the warrior is much easier to level.

Things are not going to change as you get higher when comparing those 2 classes.

Would any 80 warriors mind testing Banner of Tactics in PvE for me, please? In the heart of the mists the slot 2 heal skill only heals for about 23.2% of the listed amount.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a PvP balance reduction. If it heals for the intended amount in PvE I think I'm gonna start a warrior.
