What sucks is that GW2 had so much potential because of the first one and instead of building on GW1 they just said "hey let's throw GW1 out the window and blow people's minds with something really unique! Let's call it the MMO manifesto and remove the trinity and hype it up to no end".

to me, they just need to add a boat-load of weapon-based skills--also class/weapon based.

This would essentially fix the problem of no trinity actually creating a stale play style. classes could then be tooled to even more specific roles for specific team=based groups; or placed into a general dps or support type of style on the fly if you have a random party that doesn't require a particular tactic. it also restores what everyone misses about GW: SKILLS!

another peeve is the lack of interrupt/control/feedback type play that was amazing in GW1 (mes and nec particularly). You can't predictably and consistently interrupt foes with the current mechanics--yes, they have tells, but there are so very few skills that actually allow an interrupt on trigger in a consistent manner. It baffles me that this isn't possible. Of course, in open world, bosses are nothing but a globby sprite fest, so you wont' really see what you are attacking...therefore tells are useless. In this case, you also don't have skill activation timers on the boss bar, so you really have no means of timing it.

i know i know...just lamenting several of the things that GW1 people expected :\

I haven't been on AT in so long, didn't realize there was an official guild. I'm on Borlis Pass in [BURN], we're a few tiers lower than you guys but with the randomization for WvW coming soon maybe we'll see each other in the borderlands

Eh, think I'm finally done after this latest patch. Too many sweeping changes that shouldn't have been made over 8 months after release. Absolutely puzzles me that "balance" hadn't been an issue up until this point and all of a sudden it was so out of control we got this weird ass patch. Characters have been progressively getting weaker, builds I've grown comfortable with and used for something like 6 months are completely different now. I guess with the whole "shoutcasting" thing they think this game is e-sport worthy (lul), and this is just the start of some serious retooling without adequate PVE/PVP split. No thanks.

Unlike most of the people here I actually thrive on the grind, so that hasn't been an issue at all. I'm just tired of them fucking around with our characters. Can't stand to play my engineer anymore with the Elixir R and Elixir S changes. Oh well though, over 2,000 hours of entertainment for something like $45 isn't bad at all.

I don't mind grinds either, in fact that's one element of Diablo 2, probably my favorite game of all time that kept me playing it for so long. That and an interesting PvP scene for me, those 2 are all a game needs to be amazing imo if they're done well.

The adventure to 80 was awesome, and the game is still among the most visually stunning MMO's I've ever seen.

The problem was what were we grinding for? The loot wasn't hugely interesting as there weren't random modifiers or tons of gear to grind/farm for, and eventually everyone just ended up with the same stats. So while I don't mind gear grinding, they didn't make it worth the time. As for the PvP scene they made it hugely annoying, sPvP was extraordinarily luck based and no good team match set-up or even player run tournaments and events gave me no interest to play there either. No amount of fancy graphics or random themed events will keep all of its players interested if they don't give them something to do in the end. They wanted to take some of the "negative" aspects of MMO's out in that gear differential could be amazingly imbalanced for PvP where the casual cannot compete with the hardcore. But it just ended up with no real differences between characters, not to mention most class + wep combinations suck and there's only a handful worth using. They tried too hard to get so many different things covered that a lot of the core mechanics suffered for it, hence why I don't play anymore.

the new patch hasen't bothered me that much yet. It basically strengthens my Mes build that I have been using since release. Hah! I was kinda hoping for something more sweeping to force me out of my box.

I've said it before, but this is one of those things you expect with ANet--balance will constantly be shuffled--whatever they mean by "balance"--and so you will expect your builds to be made obsolete. This usually addresses the most popular builds, and people bitch and moan for a week until they find one that is more viable.

The problem I see with doing this in GW2 is that so much of these builds--with the inherent lack of skills--is tied to gear. Now, you might actually have to replace all of your gear to work with a new build. Well, that's what the grind is, anyway, but yeah--it would be nice to have something else going on.

the re-skinned RNG box events back to back to back that are going on right now aren't quite doing it for me.

I still play and will continue to. gotta finish Bolt at some point.

Drastic balance changes are always a dicey proposition. Sure there are new players coming into the game constantly but you still run the risk of irking the existing fanbase that are actually playing the game. With that in mind, I actually think they did a good job with it for the most part, with some notable exceptions but I can live with those.

Now just turn off the leaky CoF1 faucet that is inflating all the prices and we've got a real game on our hands.

If I hadn't already quit some of those upcoming changes definitely would've driven me to. Gold bonuses removed from dungeon bosses and implemented as per-path rewards is pretty awful. That makes omnomberry/raspberry peach bars completely useless, as well as scavenging runes (a very costly investment) and gold find infusions. It also makes income almost completely dependent on item drops rather than dungeon farming. I guess that's their solution to the CoF p1 masturbation fest rather than an actual redesign of the dungeon, but it's gonna result in a serious decrease in gold earning potential game-wide.

I also used magic find gear exclusively on my main which I put over 1,500 hours into. I had about 125% MF through gear and could get up to 200% using a 50% boost and food. There's no way they'll be matching the 200% MF power of my gear + boosts as an account-wide bonus.

Seems to be all good for me.
I don't see how omnomberry bars become useless.

And they are adding a champion chest to every champion.

Also considering they have been giving achievement chests that reward 1-2g every day, and today I got the 5000 points ches that rewards 15g and 400 gems, it doesn't seem Anet is trying to reduce the in gold earning potential game wide - just the stupid same path farm.

Cause omnoms are really only used for the 40% extra gold, and it's only a worthwhile investment on boss kills that drop 10-15 silver. It's the main source of income when dungeon running due to diminishing returns on chest drops and the path completion bonus. Trash mobs drop like 60 copper at level 80 very rarely, nobody runs gold find food on trash, and the 30% MF is terribly cost inefficient for something that requires a semi-rare ingredient and a level 400 chef. Tarts and creams are much better foods for MF boosts. I guarantee bars will tank in value once that change is implemented. And those achievement chests give 1 gold per 500 achievement points, it's only "every day" until you reach your point cap which will happen very quickly as most players are under 5K points. You could earn that 1 gold in two 8 minute CoF p1 runs.

The first few give 1g.
Then 2g.
The 5K one gives 15g and 400 gems.

Using CoF p1 runs as a standard for any thing is just pointless. It will hit CoF p1 or whatever dungeon is most efficient and that's it. Obviously since you quit you didn't find running the same dungeon over and over to get gold very fun.

A champion chest with skins and other stuff sounds much more exciting than gold coins and it will improve open world PvE as well.

omnomberry schmomnomberry. what about the now useless 20 laurel infusion I have on my amulet? And what is going to happen with the 20 laurel MF infusions?

I'm glad they are addressing CoF--this is really only implemented b/c of the CoF retards--but this is a stupid means of going about it. Just fix the damn dungeon path.

Glad to see Magic Find gone from gear. useless junk, worthless in group play and especially useless in dungeons (can't believe people still run it where non-MF chests are the primary drop sources), and should have never been around. Took too long, though.

crafting ascended gear? bah.

These fixes are long overdue, and I certainly won't be shedding any tears over the devaluation of Omnomberries. Let players run buffs/gear that actually compliments their build and leave the MF to consumables, this is the right call. If ANet simply buffs the consumables to +150% MF from +50% there's going to be a lot of happy campers out there, you get the best of both worlds - keep your MF but retain your stats so you can kill things faster and not be a burden to a five-man dungeon team. Currently there's a lot of punchless Judy's out there running MF gear in dungeons that have no idea their gear isn't boosting the boss chest drops. And it's not their fault, either... ANet has done a hopeless job of educating people on how their in-game systems work. I know it's a tall order but so far the effort has been abysmal.

So they're taking steps to correct it which is good. If gold income does dramatically drop from cutting off the open sewer pipe that is CoF1 then theoretically prices on the TP should drop as well. I'm not overly concerned, and this new system solves the problem of other dungeons supplanting CoF1 as the go-to dungeon once the inevitable nerf did finally come.

It does appear that ANet wants players farming Orr, especially if this Champions-on-demand system plays out the way it's sounding. Sadly Orr is incredibly boring with wave after wave of just auto-attacking everything... it's afk-gameplay to the max. Oh wellz...

Why do people like this game? Why do they find it visually stunning--it literally has terrible resolution on its textures, and looks marginally better than Rift (which looked like WAR, which launched in 2007)?

It drives me crazy that people think this game is somehow on a level above the current generation of MMO's, which i include WoW in. I just think people are hoping for something different, and trying to justify their purchase. I wish i could justify my recent MMO purchases, but they all feel like WoW retreads, and it is getting freaking old.

The Hunger Games mini-game is pretty stellar f you like attrition based gameplay. Apparently this was in one of the beta's but I believe they've radically overhauled it for this living story section. You get a chest after each round, two if you win... rounds go by very quickly. Talk to Gnashblade at the Bazaar to enter.

Vote Gnashblade!

oh awesome--I was wondering when they would bring it back. Hopefully I get to try it out a bit before I take off again.

In the Beta, it was a 3 team event and every time one of the players died, they became one of those mini hovering golems that could drop boons to support whatever surviving members remained for their team.

It was hilarious at the end, when you had one survivor on each team, swarmed by mobs of their own player golems dropping boons. I think the only type of debuff you had as a golem was a radar beacon that the surviving players could use to see where players from the other teams were holding up.

This one is staying, if I'm not mistaken.
