I dunno, I switch between the Elemental, the Druid thing, and the Tornado.

The Elemental is the most versatile, but the Druid gives regeneration and takes debuffs off you which can make a hard fight much easier (when some boss is fearing/burning/poisoning you). The tornado is devastating in close quarters, and funny as hell in PVP when you start one up in the midst of 10 enemies; it also can chain-knockdown, and if I figure out how to do that consistently, I'll use it alot more.

I havent seen the druid one yet, the Elemental is the easy "go-to" one for me whereas the greatsword just deals so much damage. At my level, instead of 200-350 damage per attack, the greatsword (which attack speed appears to be at least as fast) is doing 800-950 per attack. For storymode "boss" type targets, so far the greatsword as been the best due to getting out sheer damage before i lose all my HP. Elemental glyph seems good in the normal environment. I haven't given the tornado as much trial as the other two yet.

What level are you out of curiosity and what "build" do you generally do?

I still feel like everything is a clusterfuck. i'm just running from event to event and i don't feel like i'm part of anything.

I've got my guardian up to level 12 or 13 and it seems like all my gear is much lower. I haven't really got new gear in awhile.

I still feel completely lost in the game and not really sure what i am supposed to be doing.

If you're in guild just ask.

But...

Each zone has its own objectives.

Hearts are "quests" where you have to kill, loot, ect to complete a progress bar. The heart denotes the position of an npc that will sell loot after completing the heart.

Squares are points of interest that help lead you to explore the zone or lead to events.

Triangles are vantage points that show you the pretty pretty in the game.

Blue ribbons are skill points that you can spend in the Hero screen (h) to change your 5-0 skills.

Diamonds are waypoints, and you can port to them from anywhere in the word, not just WP to WP.

Your main story quest objective is the green swirly. And you can check its status from a tab on the hero screen "h"

You can learn 2 crafts from a main city. They all use the same pools of collectibles that are obtained through gathering (mines, trees, or plants) random drops from mobs and quests and salvaging.

Most of this stuff is covered in the first post, but be more specific on the boards or in game and someone will help out

I am Fancy Redbush ingame.

I picked up a bunch of good lvl 14-16 guardian gear that I had as drops. Unfortunately it gets soulbound upon use, so it won't help you (I think I have 4 or 5 greens). But you are correct, there isn't much in the 1-12 range. You can get lvl 10 stuff from crafters or merchants.

i'm in the guild and i know those basic things. I just don't feel like there's a plan to the game. it's just go join this huge group killing stuff.
Is that the whole point of the game? just run around like a chicken with its head cut off?

i've gotten into groups that are killing stuff several levels above me and i don't seem to be helping much.

should i be getting better gear? seems like gear drops are pretty low.

what weapons should i be using?

some weapons have really cool abilities but also have some really shitty ones. seems like they should have a pool to mix and match so you can customize yourself to your play style.

having to learn skills from different weapons seems kind of pointless because once you learn them once, you never have to learn them again, right? so why not just start out with all weapon skills unlocked?

where do i get new crafting recipes at low level or do i just keep making the same crap over and over?

for an MMO style game, i just get the feeling that it's everyone for himself, no cooperation or anything.

yes and no. as far as events go, as a guardian, I assume you are tossing out buffs for all of the people around you, and many of them are doing the same?

to me, the difference is that when I see someone out there fighting something, I'm actually tempted to go help. Why? because I'm not stealing something from them just by helping. Resurrecting someone doesn't instantly tag me for PvP so that some other person can come along and jump me (that mechanic never made a lick of sense to me).

But, it can be done on your own--as a guardian. grouping in the explorable world isn't all that necessary, and you can follow the mob as you wish. you can keep following the mob or some other player and what I do is i'll actually strike up a conversation--Hey, let's go do this stuff since we're here. Sure! It works if you want it to, imo. :\

you get in to the first dungeon at level 30. It's punishingly evil. Not working together with your team of 5 people would be disaster (eh, you'll all still be dead several times over. Seriously--that first dungeon is horrendously unbalanced)

oh, as for crafting: you gain new recipes automatically when you level crafting (the standard for your class--armor pieces or weapon bodies, insignias, etc.)

You can also buy various recipes at the karma and heart (also karma) vendors, if they offer them.

But: DO NOT USE THE RECIPES! the best leveling comes from using the discovery panel in the crafting window. Use the known recipes as a template. simply look at what you need to make a piece of armor--it gives you the two components, amounts needed, and the insignia to make that one type. Now, just go into the discovery panel, with a different insignia (you will have the recipe for this) and simply plug in those components with a different insignia. It will tell you if you have something that looks good (And it even greys out unusable materials as you add them to the discovery table, so it's a rather hand-holding mechanic). You can also just go into the discovery panel with all of the materials that can be used in your craft discipline (if it can be used, the item description will tell you, and at which level it can be used) and plug and play until you find new recipes.

The stuff you craft for leveling/unlocking recipes does not really sell on the market, so it's best to just salvage them back for materials (if you don't want it) or sell it to a merchant.

Well..I kind of feel the same way and I'm level 49. You can buy generic gear from the armorer or weaponsmith. They're actually decent and usable unlike the crap you would purchase from a generic vendor in WoW. I totally agree about the clusterfuck point...the majority of the time I'm just standing in a big cloud of particles just mashing my buttons with these events.

I don't care for the main storyline yet myself as well. The voice acting is also so bad that it's distracting. Just running around right now trying to level.

Wish they'd add some smaller arena type PVP match ups. Is there a reason they don't have that available or is it something planned for the future?

I believe most people call it sPvP - go to the PvP page on your hero screen and go into the Mists.

Level 51: 2H Staff, Load up earth, fire, air signets; either the health signet or the original glyph. Traits evenly split between fire and water

The transforming potions you get from the locked chests: do you just throw them away? I just don't see any practical use for them and they are account locked and non-sellable (and taking up too many slots in my bank)

I'm about to toss mine since I haven't seen a need for them yet. Even most of the dyes are of little use unless you have a "hot" color that people want.

I use the transforming potions whenever I do some crafting. For some reason I find it amusing to see an Eagle Raptor running around Divinity's Reach.

no. as long as you have your account, you can download the client. registration should happen on your first login attempt and when you use your player ID and password, should be good to go.

I have GW2 installed on 3 machines. It's all account driven.

I use one just to see it, then I throw the rest out.

I am already holding onto a lot of unsellable stuff and crafting items that are not depositable.

Not sure how to answer this, same ideas as any game I guess. Gain experience, gain levels, gain gear, kill more and look sweet(have fun) doing it. If you are too low for the content you are doing then go back to another area. You can redo events many times over for experience, craft, or the game will "cap" you level so low level contact is not mindless.

I agree, I get most of my gear from crafting. Crafting weapons gives you more control over the stats and the base dps seems higher too. You get good items from the main story quest if you are the same level as it(check the number next to the objective in the top right corner)

what weapons should i be using?

some weapons have really cool abilities but also have some really shitty ones. seems like they should have a pool to mix and match so you can customize yourself to your play style.

No weapon or weapon skill is "supposed" to be stronger than another. That said item level and rarity comes into play. I use the weapon which has the most fun skills to use. I never expected to be a bow theif when I started out, but I basically have a bouncing auto shot, 2 types of bombs, and 2 types of evade attacks. It keeps me VERY active while playing and is a lot of fun. Plus the auto attack bouncing allows me to get gold on every event easily

having to learn skills from different weapons seems kind of pointless because once you learn them once, you never have to learn them again, right? so why not just start out with all weapon skills unlocked?

I would agree, this was interesting for 2 minutes before I came to the same conclusion.

Zin answered this above

for an MMO style game, i just get the feeling that it's everyone for himself, no cooperation or anything.

The communication in guild seems weird to me. I constantly miss, or ignore guild chat. That being said, I find the same mentality across all MMO's. GW2 makes it impossible to not group, so at least you are not competing with other people for spawns. But these are still people you are dealing with, send them a tell, get to talking, if you don't initiate they probably won't either. Hell one of the people I brought into this guild ignores me to hang out with the higher level peps, lol.

if you need wep/armor upgrades at lower levels the trading post (AH) is easy to use and low lvl stuff is cheap as hell

also the stuff you get for zone completion is generally pretty good

I believe they stack. And yes, I would agree that they suck if they only work on gear lvl 79 or less. If they worked on lvl 80 gear, I can see people wanting them. It is just vanity item. You like the look of one piece of armor, but it is a real low level or bad stats for your build, so you use that transforming portion to make the armor with the lvl/stats you want look like one with the looks you want.

Case in point, I like the shoulder pieces I had at lvl 1 on my guardian (it has a nice aquamarine blue ankh/symbol on it). So I am keeping those around and at some point I will use one of those transforming potions to get that look back.

Speaking of zone completion, does the gear you get depend on the zone, or your level? Say that I wait and complete the lvl 1-15 zones at level 50, do I get lvl 50 gear?

Sell it. At 376 Artificer, a staff I make sells for around 2s 30c, but only salvages into 1 Hard Wood. I haven't checked the TP, but I imagine I could buy more than 1 Hard Wood with 2s 30c.
