I have to ask before we go any further. This may sound silly, especially since its called "Guild Wars" but what the hell do guilds do?
I'm part of one right now, I think its the traders alliance. We never do anything. Hell, I'm the only person to even log on in the past 6 hours. Most of our members havent logged on in two weeks. The guild master and officers are never to be seen. WTF?!?

I'll join up but I want to know what you guys expect of me.

For refernce: I am a small lady, 8th level W/N, have made the transition to Post Apocolypse.

Guilds are mostly for PvP play, once you get a "Guild Hall" you can participate in the game's equivalent of ladder play. The Guild Hall is also a handy place for meetups and equipment trading.

The advantage for the roleplaying part of the game is more intangible, to me it just feels more cohesive doing missions with fellow guild members than with random strangers or people off your friends list.

As you've probaby also seen, guilds have their own channel in the game's chat interface which I have found to be quite useful.

My guild is actually quite small... just me and a couple close friends. I would love to join the AT guild at some point, however my guild's leader has grand (foolhardy?) ambitions of buying a Guild Hall sigil (about 90 platinum pieces) and we've saved up about 1/3 of that. Unfortunately all others we've invited into the guild have turned out to be incompetent freeloaders and wind up leaving fairly quickly.

so is this still the Official guild of anandtech? i'm in one thats an extension of my old city of heroes guild but 75% of the guys play like once a week so i'm looking for something more active. i don't do PvP and have little desire to, not uber competative but if you guys do alot of PvE i'd be glad to help out.

Hey, just to let you know, i sold my Guild Wars account a few days ago, so the guy playing my characters (last names of Godwin) is not me and he is not a member of AT, just so you know. Sold it to a friend's little brother that is about 6 years old, so dont expect too much maturity from him, just thought i would let you know.
