I think Michael Bush could carry the load for two years at least. The Bears could draft a replacement during that time.

Here's to hoping he just wasn't ready for it last season - yeah he started strong but he faded fast.

I am actually happy with Ridley, Vereen, and Woodhead at RB. We also picked up Addai, but that one I don't really care about.

I know the first two are only going to be in their second year, but I'd like to see what they've got, since each showed some promise last season when they got the chance.

And I don't think Welker is done with us after this year. Mankins was thought to be done, but he got resigned to a nice long-term deal as well. This is just how that Pats operate.

Pats swipe Jake Ballard off waivers. The Giants had hoped that he'd make it through waivers so they could put him on IR, but the Pats grabbed him. Shrewd move:

Now, Ballard had ACL and micro-fracture surgery in February. He would have to have an amazing recovery to be ready by November. The most likely scenario is he's out for the entire season.

If he doesn't play, Ballard, would be an exclusive rights free agent again in 2013 and only a minimum tender from the Patriots would keep him on the team. He wouldn't be a restricted free agent until '14, and wouldn't be eligible for unrestricted free agency until '15.

The Pats need a third TE on their team in case Gronk or Hernandez go down (as happened in the Superbowl). While he won't play this year, he'll make an excellent backup next year.

Because the Bears understand that, what goes around, comes around.

The Patriots can no longer try to "sneak" someone through waivers as every team in the league is probably looking to teach them a lesson.

That being said, the league really needs to address this. Such unwritten wink-wink understandings are dishonest and violate the spirit of the rules.

Jake Ballard is a long-term talent at TE? He's adequate I suppose, but he's also on a torn ACL. There are reasons why a team like the Bears wouldn't claim him, I would think.

3. I think these one-day contracts to retire as a member of some organization -- as Tomlinson is doing today in San Diego -- are just silly. Who cares where you retire? Now Chris Chambers wants to retire as a Dolphin. Why? Who cares?

Please find me an article by someone has well-respected as King that supports these ridiculous one-day-contract-retire-as-a-whatever, and I will be happy to reevaluate my position.

I am in no way a grinch. There is nothing that says that the retirement press conference at their old teams offices. At the conference they can say they were always a whatever in their hearts an all that. I just think the act of signing a 1 day contact is useless and cheapens the moment.

I am not sure why you find it so important to continue to support your clearly incorrect position at the risk of getting this thread locked?
