Anands said in the past those numbers are BS anyway. AMD unlike intel negotiates with each vendor/distributor a price. My bet is they cost $450 for for 4400.. You think places like MEMEXPRESS SPARCO could stay in biz selling $500 items at COST!?

That's what you're saying. AMD so-called 1000 unit prices are same price retial even at monarch for 4800.

I don't agree.. MSRP is that 1000 number they always state. If you look around and see the anounced price cuts AMD does periodical'y, and they always annouce them in "1000 unit quantity", not so suprisingly the next day the retial prices match at on-line vendors.

I will buy from these fvckers with a CC and if they try to pull some fast sh^t I will have some power.....retail boxes monarch!!!!

Is there any references for that company? I didn't find any on resellerratings. I hate shady companies, which is why I stick with newegg (and a few others) for the most part.

The reseller ratings on those first three stores haven't convinced me that it's worth the risk... My pre-order went with Monarch.

Well, I'm not going to be buying until July, so I'll have to assess the situation then. Hopefully newegg will have em...or Monarch will be a little cheaper.

Well, I don't have any experience with sparco, so I'm not sure about them.

TankGuys is new, but I bought a few things from them the other day and it went just fine. They don't have an 800 number which sucks, but they actually respond to e-mails really fast and they were really helpful.

memoryexposusa is alright, but I can't stand the website. The one order I placed with them went fine though.

Finally, monarchcomputer is really expensive. I also don't like thier site much. They do provide decent enough customer service though, and they've been around for a while.

Just my 2 cents!

Well, if I can't wait, or if it seems like everyone I know won't get them for a while, then I might roll the dice with one of these lesser-known retailers.

I figure it can't hurt. The way I see it, a scammer isn't going to go through the trouble of creating an entire E-commerce site, so that's not a worry. If the store really sucks, and you don't get the right product, or whatever, and they don't work with you on a return, then you just dispute the CC charges.

lastly, I actually prefer dealing with the lesser-knowns. I find that the smaller the company, the more each individual sales means to them, and so thier staff tends to be a lot more helpful, and they'll really try and keep you happy. When I dealt with TankGuys, I had a quick question about if a hard drive was compatible with the DVR I was upgrading. They sales guy sent me back a page long e-mail, detailing why it was compatible, and other alternatives I could use (that were cheaper even), and then he also included a link to another webpage with great instructions on how to do the upgrade. How many other stores would go to that trouble?

lastly, a year or so ago I bought a piece of memory from Monarchcomputer, and they were also really helpful with a compatibility question I had. The shipping was prompt and they were just generally helpful with the whole thing. Although, I still don't like the site or thier higher prices, but I suppose the high price does bring a decent service aspect with it.

They aren't always a lot higher, but they tend to be like $5 or so higher on everything I ever checked. I just checked 4 products I could find on 3 different websites, and thiers was always the highest. Not by a ton, I'll give you that.

nowhere near as bad as some other places I have seen. I wonder how some stores even stay in business!

Good post ... but lots of people like the hearding mentality, the overdog mentality, which is the reason intel is so popular and the reason Dell is so popular dispite it's 4 re-seller rating. Yes 4!!

I like giving "upstarts" a try. besides there's alwasys "charge back" if you have problems.. I've "charged back" about 4 times with crappy arse dell and thier crappy CS. If my issue is not resolved in 30 minutes of phone time I charge back and send back. My time is too valueable to play "hold boy" and play "I don't know WTF is going on" like dell does.

True, many people (understandably) want to go with the known quantity. Nothing wrong with that. I just like spreading the wealth, so to speak!

I'm really careful with chargebacks though. I'll do it if the company is really, really useless and un-helpful. However, my buddy runs a store that sells wooden boxes online (yea, wooden boxes...) and he told me that when they get a chargeback, it costs them $30. To a small business that's just starting out, that can hurt a lot. So I'm willing to give a little benefit of the doubt... but only to a point.

Dell is a funny beast... we use them where I work, and they are great. Then again, we buy 1,000+ systems per year and have a dedicated sales rep, so they better be nice to us! I think thier basic support is lacking because they suffer from the same mentality that other big companies get. The become so focused on thier big clients, that they all but ignore the little one or two piece orders. I can't say that I blame them, but it makes it annoying for the small orders we put in.

That's primarily like I'll give un-known quantities (ala tankguys) a shot, since they are just trying to get a foothold, I figure they'll pay more attention to me on a per-customer basis, even if I'm just buying 1 item. So far it's been great, but we'll see if they are still good in 2 years when they are doing more business!

There are good exceptions to the big guys rule though. But in general, I still like to find the small ones just on principle!

What gets me is people bitch and moan when it takes these small frys a week to process thier order but think nothing of Dell or Alienware taking upwards of 6 weeks... Again people don't expect as much from big company, like the government. Well I do. And prefer small company. You know Memory express has called me 2x so far, long distance, thier dime, to tell me status? Good luck getting that from Dell... I've been on the phone before, on hold of course, with those dell jerks and was then disconnected after 15 min. I Hung up, went to PO and retuned thier crap and charged back, simple as that.

BTW- Gateway is our corporate provider, we also have a rep, and no questions asked return policy... Sure if you can get it it's great...but that's not the case with most.

....

The fact that they've called you twice like that is great. That's the kind of service I like, because it's obvious your order is important enough to them to call. when I ordered from TG, they sent me e-mails each time my order status was updated and they were obviously personally written, not form e-mails, so same kind of thing.

What I find interesting about Dell as well is that thier prices aren't always very good. You'd think that with the clout they've got, they could offer much better prices... it's strange. They've also got that small businesses division which usually charges a different price for things than thier standard store, and it's usually more expensive. Makes 0 sense.

Anyway, I'm pumped to get my 4400 X2.... I had just recently upgraded to the 64 bit 3400, but I figure I'll just pass that down and upgrade my wife's computer using that. Everybody wins!

Zeb - do you know if they charge your credit card immediately or do they charge it when it ships? I almost have the money to put on that sucker, but I need another couple of weeks. 6/30 would be great if they charged me then.
