That's quite a system you have coming in your sig! Is that a house-warming gift for yourself?

House-warming, a reward for my new job, and blowing some cash from an unexpected winfall... Life is good for the moment!

BeakerChem, from the looks of your sig my system is going to be very similer to yours, do you think a 550W power supply would be enough?

Yeah, I just paid Mwave the $650... I was looking around at places on Froogle and they were one of the only ones that had the 4400+. Now they are reporting out of stock as well... I wonder if I got the last one?

Wish I had read this thread earlier and found out about how blatant the price gouging is... I'll remember to pre-order the next time a big CPU launch takes place. Oh well, at least I got this liquid cooling kit and can OC the 4400+ to make pretend like I got a 4800 and am still saving $400

A 550, according to nVidia's website, should be enough to run a 7800 GTX SLI system if the amperage is high enough. I am getting the 600W so that I am overpowered. I had a recommendation that getting more power is always a good thing, for future expansion and for stability.

A bunch of folks have commented on Enermax not being the tip top of power supplies, and recommended an Antec TruePower PSU instead. Might want to check that out if you are still picking things out.

Are you getting the BFG 7800?

Probably. They had 4 pcs left yesterday and we ordered 2 with my sysadmin. Yours was the 3rd or 4th piece.

I think I'll be fine with my current PSU... depite the dual core my new 4400+ consumes lot less than my 130nm FX-53 did at ~2.6GHz...

Actually, looks like it must have been the 5th or 6th because Mwave just E-mailed me saying the chip is now on back order. I'm probably going to cancel my order and wait a couple weeks... this is insane :disgust:

Did anyone else notice that Monarch changed the price of the OEM 4400+ in their mobo/cpu combos from $585 to $529?

I wonder if that's the real price, or if it's a typo.

To BeakerChem:

I see You have RAM I'm going to buy for A8N-Premium and X2-4400
Are You able to tun it on 1T timings?
If yes - what is Your MOBO?

Thanks a lot, and sorry for kind of "off topic" question...

You can help folks at Link

Kewl! Now if only they dropped the price of their motherboards by 10% to match NewEgg I'd be on this.

Just keep in mind that "bigger" is not always "better". There are several 500W supplies that outperform 600W ones.

Enermax makes decent power supplies but I'd hardly consider them top of the line. And I'd personally avoid OCZ at all costs (I know you didn't mention OCZ but it seems to come up as a recommendation a lot around here.)

I like PC P&C 510W SLI for top of the line. It is definitely pricey but unquestionably the finest PC power supply you can buy.

Thanks for the tip off. I gave in and ordered after talking with Monarch. They confirm that they have the 4400+ OEM IN-STOCK RIGHT NOW! I didn't ask them about the price (of course!). Either it's $529 or it's wrong... and I don't want to know if it's wrong.

The most I ever paid for a processor in the past has been $120. It took me a month of soul-searching before I finally made the jump. BTW I also ordered up an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum as this seems to be a good board and has the best chance at the moment of running the X2.

*shrug* The Asus A8N-SLI Premium (mobo I'm planning to buy) is actually cheaper at Monarch than at NewEgg, so it's no problem for me.

The MSI K8N Neo2 is $120 of NewEgg but $135 on Monarch. But seeing as they pre-test them I guess it's worth the extra $15. Some of the comments on NewEgg refer to flaky MSI boards.

Not too bad of a deal... At least, considering that some sites are charging that much just for the processor. :disgust:

I am considering a purchase decision of the MSI Neo4 Platinum motherboard using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ CPU. My concern is regarding upgrading the BIOS of the motherboard to work properly with the dual-core CPU. I read the following extract from a recent Anand Tech article: This brings up the nagging question that is always asked when BIOS upgrades are required for certain CPUs. What do you do if you have a board that needs a BIOS upgrade for dual-core and you only have a dual-core chip? We asked AMD this question and was given the following reply: "If the BIOS you are working with (original BIOS in the board) supports a rev E single core, it will allow you to flash the BIOS to a BIOS that supports rev E dual core. In my experience, a DC processor with single core rev E support will run fine, but only as a single core. If the BIOS doesn't support rev E (In other words, you may have a good board, but the BIOS is pretty old), you will likely need to install a pre-rev E (AKA-130nm) AMD processor to flash the BIOS." This would be my case as I do not own an earlier generation AMD processor with which I could bring the motherboard up from its original BIOS. So, my question to TankGuys is regarding the BIOS. Can you tell what revision BIOS is installed with any motherboard you sell? Apparently, I would need at least revision 1.4 for this particular motherboard, which is when they first provided support for revision E CPUs. Thanks.

K8N Neo2 doesn't yet officially support X2. Bios is still at beta stage, currently 1.9b8.
