It does seem that the quality of FedEx/UPS is regionally dependent, generally they're about the same in my area, in my experience. Then if I remember correctly, FedEx didn't do so well in the South.

Mainly what happened is that Tankguys shipped my P-180 on Tuesday, but the tracking number for the P-180 didn't work. I got my A8N-E on Friday, and the tracking number for my P-180 still didn't work. I told one of the Tankguys about it, and UPS finally got the ball rolling. Well, at least for the night; they moved it from its origin to a warehouse in Illinois over the weekend, and just today shipped out. But yeah, a 3-day ETA is the the earliest I could get it, today included.

On the bright side, I finally have a 4200+. It's not my 4400+, but I suppose the performance difference doesn't matter too much and since I'll try overclocking when I know what I'll be doing on that end of things.

The only down side is, I can't put my system together without an enclosure.

You too with the ZZF thing? I had such a wonderful experience with them on my M/B and such a crappy one with Mwave. Then I went for the CPU...ZZF screwed me the same as you and Mwave had only 5 left...so I re-ordered at Mwave and guess what...nothing went wrong this time and it will be here on wednesday! I had the WORST customer relations with ZZF over this CPU thing...they treated me like crap till I talked to Anthony. He was pretty cool about it but still didn't solve the problem for me

Tankguys,

If you don't mind projecting, do you expect your X2-retail prices to stay the same (i.e. not rise) once you start having them available. I appreciate you taking time to keep us informed as to how and when these may become available and since I am not in a hurry I intend to wait until they are available at your site. I would pre-order, but I often get sent away for a week or two and I will probably choose anticipated delivery to fit my own schedule.

Thanks

Ah! Thank you dr1!! I've been checking various places throughout the day, NewEgg included, but didn't see anywhere that had it in stock. NewEgg must've just put it up a couple of hours ago. Hmm, actually I just noticed that putting "X2 4400" in the search-bar doesn't bring it up. On closer inspection, no where does it say "X2" in the description. However, the link you provided IS the X2 4400 -- the model # is correct, and when you enlarge the image it shows "X2" on the box.

I cancelled my order with ZipZoomFly and ordered this one. It's $45 more expensive, BUT virtually everyone knows how reputable NewEgg is, and I've personally ordered tons of stuff from them with absolutely zero problems. Plus I'm really really REALLY tired of waiting and getting the run-around by places like ZZF. Is it worth paying $45 extra to have it now? Not really, but I'm always a bit impatient when it comes to ordering computer parts, especially when it holds up the construction of a new one.

For those interested, here is the 2nd to last email I sent to ZZF (the last one was simply "cancel my order"):

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry. We do understand that this item was listed on our web site as being in stock at the time you had placed your order. Unfortunately, due to unexpected high demands, that item is now on back order. We do not hold items when you place an order and only pack an order after it is processed.

Thank You for shopping with us!

I tell you this: We will never raise your prices with demand on purpose.

The only reason our price would rise is if our cost rises. We charge a set amount more than our price from the distributors; we never price gouge.

I don't have a crystal ball to see if my distributors are going to raise thier prices, but so long as they stay the same, our price will absolutely not go up.

As long as you have a PSU, you can most certainly run it without an enclosure... Set everything up on the desk (make sure the motherboard isn't on anything conductive!), and use a screwdriver to CAREFULLY short the power switch pins on the mb.

Personally, I enjoy how DFI has onboard motherboard switches for power and reset. I put them to good use on my Pro 875B motherboard

I only wish you had a tentative date for shipment within close reach, then I would be willing to place an order at this moment.. It's disappointing you and may others are at the mercy of AMD and your distributors for waiting on product.. Mind pm'ing me that telephone # just incase i get the urge to order..?

Support price gougers with business and they will continue the practice.. NewEgg's gotten a little too big for their own good.. I remember a time when they had competitive pricing in addition to good service. Guess at some point they decided name recognition was enough.

Yeah but its just wrong to have to use a screwdriver to turn my computer on/off. And its messy to have my drives lying about and having the wires all over even if I bundle them together with something.

I know; I would never leave a system running for an extended period in that configuration. When my X2 first arrived, I ran it and my A8N-E like that for long enough to flash the BIOS and ensure that everything worked (it even booted - by my accident - into the old Windows install from my NF2-based Abit NF7-S, and successfully loaded most of the new drivers as well!). However, again, I would not leave things set like that for any length of time.

It's just supply and demand. From this thread, it's pretty obvious that the demand for these chips is way ahead of the supply. And under those conditions, it's quite natural for the price to go up. I can't blame Newegg for that, and I don't blame anyone who is in a hurry for paying more to get their CPU now. I can, however, hang on a bit longer and see if i can get the CPU for a better price. As soon as the chips start to flow a little better, it will become more of a buyer's market and the price should go down. Who, after all, is going to pay NewEgg $659 when the same CPU can be had from TankGuys for $597? This is how prices are determined in a free market, and it's not a bad thing.

Now, I'd definitely give loyalty points to a vendor who had these things in stock and didn't jack up the price. I'd be more likely to go to their site first next time around. And even if the price was the same once the processor was readily available, I'd be more likely to buy the CPU from them than from the "gougers". That's why TankGuys is selling these with a low markup (or will once they're in), and it's a sound business strategy. But there's nothing evil about charging what the market will bear in a competitive situation.

Newegg's out of stock (X2 4400+) now. :-

TankGuys, I live in India, but I have a cousin the the US (San Diego, CA) right now who'll be coming back to India by the end of July. He's bringing a few pieces of computer hardware for me along with him when he comes back. If my cousin places an order on a retail X2 4400+ now, would it be possible for you to ship it to him so that it reaches him before the end of July? If it is indeed possible for you to do so, I'll ask him to order a retail X2 4400+ from you guys. Also, do you carry Arctic-Cooling Freezer64 CPU coolers?

Thanks.

Assuming we get them before the end of July, the answer is yes

The problem is that I'm force to just sit and wait for AMD to push them out to the distributors. Now, that being said, I have to say I would be *very* surprised if we did not get them before the end of July. So I can't garantee it, but I really doubt it would be a problem.

One thing to consider on your end though: I realize the parts are a lot cheaper here, but I think that some manufacturer warranties are voided when the products leave the country. So bear in mind there is a chance you completely lose your warranty coverage by using them in India. I'm not sure off the top of my head which manufacturers have this policy, but it's something to keep in the back of your mind...
