TankGuys,

Thanks for the quick response. I just mailed my cousin and asked him to place an order for an X2 4400+ at your store. Since, as I have gathered from your previous posts, it is not your policy to charge credit cards before you are sure that you can ship out the requested product, I guess my cousin can cancel the order if it doesn't reach him by the end of July (...I'll buy a single core CPU right here in India if that happens).

Warranty shouldn't be a great problem. I don't intend to overclock my CPU unless the games and applications I use demand more power than what the CPU has to offer to function decently. And if I do overclock, I'll loose the warranty anyway. Hopefully, nothing will go wrong with either the processor or anything else I may decide to get from the US. But I really have no choice. The problem with buying computer hardware in India goes way beyond the mere problem of warranty. In India, the X2 4400+ will take no less than 6 months to arrive, I'm guessing. And even when it does, it will probably cost twice as much as it costs in the US. I bought an ASUS 6800 Ultra (model v9999 Ultra Deluxe) in India in December last year. And I paid the equivalent of 1.1k USD for it (when at that time in the US, it didn't cost any more than 600 USD at most)... and I bought it straight from the authorised ASUS distributor!

I recently emailed Dell India to send me a price quotation for a 2005FPW monitor, and they replied that there weren't selling widescreen TFTs in India and that the next best thing available was a 19" flat panel display unit and it was quoted at 45,000 Rupees (around $1,000) when the same monitor costs around $500 in the US!

Low end hardware is no problem here. But high end hardware costs more than I can afford to buy. So, you see... I don't have much of a choice here.

My thanks to you again for the quick and useful response.

I don't think so. Even if it is, those restrictions only cover certain countries, and I do not beleive India is one of them. If he were in North Korea or something, it might be a different story.

EDIT: 48 USD tax charges? I think I'll pass.

EDIT 2: Actually, now that I've decided not to buy this cpu from newegg, I find it amusing to watch the prices jumping.

Maybe, but it sucks the power and space of one cpu, while giving the performance of 2 !

I read somewhere that Newegg's software automatically raises the price when their stock of an item runs low. We're probably just seeing an automatic hike every time they sell one or two CPU's. If I'm right about that, the price will go down automatically when they get more X2s. I've seen the price for other things at Newegg shoot up like that and then go down a week or two later.

Supply and demand that is the feeding frenzy that is going on now I am going to wait for Tank Guys to get their stock in before and order from them, I am in no real hurry.

awesome zebo!

i've been fightin' w/ myself over the last 3 days or so... contemplating getting an X2...

then i realized that I in no way would really take advantage of dual core to its full potential... (unless i run 2 instances of folding@home)...

considering i mostly game anyway, i guess dual core isn't for me yet...

but once more software comes out that takes advantage of both cores or updates on games which implement the use of dual cores... i think i'm gonna have to deny myself this processor...

it's pretty funny.... i've been through the checkout process 3 times now but always closed out the window before submitting... sigh...

oh well...

That's right most people will find them overkill until much more apps are written to take advantage... waiting? nothing wrong with that...HW only gets cheaper and faster all the time

Nice pics cappy are you using that awesome stock HS? I only wish they used a 80x80x25mm fan with more throw instead of 70x70x15mm, otherwise it's great heat pipes, copper and all. Let us know how she performs somehwere..

Anyways, I anticipated this and that's why I said I wouldn't cancel my TG order until I got a tracking number from someone else. At that point the only company's "In Stock" claim that I will believe is Newegg's.

ZZF's email said they are expecting stock on July 1st. We'll see but that isn't too long to wait. So I'll keep my order with them too, but I'm canceling a week after that if it still hasn't shipped since I don't want that on my credit card when the monthly cycle bills me. Worst that happens is TG and ZZF both get stock at the very same time and I get two of em... at least I have decent prices locked in.

Update: ZZF yesterday evening sent me email notification that they'd shipped me my 4400+ Retail I ordered, and supplied a tracking number. So I went ahead and sent TGs an email canceling my order with them. (I couldn't find a way to cancel the order via TG's web site.) So anyways, since I placed my TGs order on June 1st, I imagine that a lot of people just got bumped up in line by 1 .

I don't care if I have to wait two more weeks or more, I am going to let the feedin' frenzy die down and then I will get a X2 for my ASUS board. I have wanted to pull the trigger a few times myself but I figure why let the retailers let get me by the short ones.

For what it's worth, TigerDirect is listing them in stock (without the 'usually ships in xx-yy days caveat'). Don't know if they always list them in stock, but it's the first time they popped up in my search...

Ahhh a joyous day...

I have sitting in my hands my AMD 4800+ and a Zalman 7000B-Cu HSF!!! NOW if i could only get my 7800gtx...I'd be happy! hahaha

Is it just me or does the HSF weigh more then the retail CPU box? LOL

Tigerdirect says it's not In Stock in fact, they'll get it on Friday... I ordered 2, they promise to ship it by Tuesday, so I keep my single order at TG alive until next Tuesday...

OMG!! It has to be a joke or something. Another reason, screwegg is the last place I'll buy something from.

Yeah, I was thinking about Screwegg but I've decided I won't feed them - rather went to Tigerdirect, just for checking and voila'! it's cheaper there and they confirmed for Friday...
