Name: Brooklyn Brown Ale

Type of Beer: American brown ale
Score: 8/10
Review: A little too hoppy for my tastes, but awesome nonetheless. The chocolate and coffee flavors were a really nice touch and added some good flavor to the beer.

Review: Tried this tonight. Definitely better than the macrobrews, but not the best thing I've had from Brooklyn Brewery. Kind of reminded me of Victory Golden Monkey, with less alcohol.

I just don't see the point. You can mention the price or we can figure it out on our own. I mean, if we like someones review and find the price reasonable, we'll spring for it. I mean, for the most part, I don't mind spending a bit extra for a beer I like or want to try. Either the price is in the range that I don't mind purchasing often, or its higher, where I'll only want to have it on certain ocassions or try it once. A value rating isn't going to affect me. But if you guys find it helpful, alright.

The main thing I want to avoid is the price of the beer influencing the score (hence a desire for a separate value score). If two beers' taste deserves an 8/10, one shouldn't give the $1 bottle of beer a 10/10 and the $10 beer 6/10. I think they should both be given an 8/10 (based on nothing other than taste), and then the price aspect should be noted elsewhere, either by listing the price, giving a value score, mentioning its value in your review, etc.

Now that I think about it, I do think that listing the price would be the best way to keep this objective. One person might think a $2 beer is cheap, whereas someone else might think that a $2 beer is only for a special occasion.

LOL... every beer but one has received at least a 7 / 10.

y'all are a bunch of drunks

I could go out and buy some Coors Light to review, but then I'd have to drink it... That's money and liver cells I could spend on something I like.

If nothing else, adding price is more information, and that's usually a good thing.

Might also want to add location purchased (like town/state, not name of store) as that can affect price as well as quality.

I just like the value score as another way of helping filter out choices. There's an endless number of choices in the muddled middle of microbrews. Some bad. Some good. Some excellent. I don't really like listing prices because it's really regional and retailer specific.

Review: Tried this tonight. Pretty good. The flavor strongly reminded me of iced tea, don't know why. My score would have been higher, but it was a little too hoppy and the aftertaste wasn't too great.

Review: This beer sells for $2.99/six-pack and is quite the perfect basic beer. Simpler Times is what Budweiser and Miller should be. It is cheap and flavorful, just how I like my women. :awe:

Holy shit, $3 for a six pack AND 6.2% ABV? Sounds like I need to find a Trader Joes... :awe:

Name: Franziskaner
Brewery: Brewery Munich
Type of Beer: Hefeweissen
Score: 8.3
Review: I was very pleasantly surprised by the Franziskaner. It had an extremely pleasant champagne-like effervescent mouthfeel followed by a very light bready, malty flavor and a clean, citrusy finish. Now that I've had a true Hef, I think this is what all of the style should shoot for.

Name: Don de Dieu
Brewery: Unibroue
Type of Beer: Triple Wheat Ale, bottle refermented
Score: 9/10

Review: I really really enjoyed the Don de Dieu. I expected an entry from Unibroue to be excellent, as I am a huge fan of La Fin du Monde. This is similar to LFDM in the look and in some aspects the smell, but is a completely different animal on the palate. Very Hef-like in the mouthfeel, but with a slight effervescence. Subtle hints of vanilla, but a very pervasive granny smith apple undertone that was extremely pleasant due to the lack of sweetness. It had a lot of body, more substantial than your average wheat beer, but lots of the same drinkability you come to expect from the style. The 9% alcohol was nearly impossible to detect outside of the slight warmth in muh belly. Very highly recommended.

Beer: Marin IPA
Brewery: Marin Brewing Company
Type of Beer: IPA
Score: 9.2/10

Review: I absolutely LOVE Marin IPA. It's a radical departure from most IPAs, it doesn't have that kick you in the teeth piney citrusy hops note that I've come to love in beers like Pliny the Elder/Younger, Ruination IPA, and Big Daddy IPA, but it does not dilute my love for this wonderful nectar. While the hops are subdued compared to other examples of the style, they are not lacking, merely in the background. They are sent to the back row by the very tasty caramel and bready malt flavors, slight vanilla note, but a nice bit of bitter hops at the finish. This is a very difficult beer to describe, every time I have it it is very different due to the bottle-conditioned character. Live ales are often quite random in taste, but if they are stored correctly and acquired while they are still fresh, they are FAR superior to their dead yeast cousins. Highly recommended.

Beer: Hop Juice DIPA
Brewery: Left Coast
Type of Beer: Double (Imperial) IPA
Score: 7.5/10

Review: Hop Juice is shooting for the double IPA style that Pliny the Elder excels at, but simply falls short. It's difficult to put my finger on what was wrong with this one, but I think it could have been a bit old. The flavors I love from a double IPA were all there, but they tasted as if they were trying to shock someone with them rather than make a well-rounded brew. The alcohol was also very present to the point of it becoming a factor in the flavor. Just not a well-done beer, I was disappointed.

I had the pilsner and wasn't a fan, but I'll definitely give the lager a go-around! Cheap beer is always a nice alternative.

Name: Sam Adams Cherry Wheat
Brewery: Samuel Adams
Type of Beer: wheat
Score: 3/10
Review: Tried this last night because it was "Pint Night" and all drafts were $2. Initially it tasted good... but after I got halfway through the glass it started reminding me of children's cough syrup and I had to get a Coors Light to wash it down. I think the issue was that the cherry flavor was WAY too strong. If it was a little milder, and I got more of the beer/hops taste, I might feel differently.

Score 9/10

Review: Very delicious, very cloudy and golden. One of the best tasting Tripels that I've had, especially for the price. Unibroue doesn't make a single bad beer in my opinion but this one is my absolute favorite from them. Maudite is a close second. I prefer this one to Allagasch's Tripel hands down. Very very yeasty.

Type of Beer: Like a Wheat Beer and an IPA had a love child.
Score 10/10
ABV: 4.8%
Review: This is one of my favorite beers of all time, hands down. This American Wheat beer drinks like a wheat but finishes like an IPA with a nice blast of amarillo hops. The citrus notes in this are extremely intense, like almost grapefruit esque but it doesn't come off too strongly and finishes with a satisfying IPA esque aroma and flavor. Comes out slightly golden brown with a small but thick head. This really benefits from the 'roll the last sip of the bottle' yeast trick. A great summer beer and an every day drinker. If you're lucky enough to live in the TF distribution range I wouldn't think twice about picking up a 6.

That's the blue labled one, right? I had a few of those last week and agree...it's an amazing beer and certainly at the top of any tripels I've had. Unibroue has some excellent beers.

Name: Black Sun Stout
Brewery: Three Floyds
Type of Beer: Like an Irish Stout and an IPA had a love child.
Score 10/10+
ABV: 5.25%
Review: This is one of my favorite beers of all time. Picture an Irish Stout much darker and thicker than Guinness with a very fragrant coffee/chocolate palate, a touch malty... then finish yet again in Three Floyds style with a nice blast of hops. It's one of the strangest beers I've had simply because it seems like a weird combination but it's just so incredibly good. Black as tar but has a light citrus finish. This guy is seasonal and comes out in December only but it's totally worth buying as much as you can carry to keep for later. It's in my all time top 5.

Type of Beer: Scotch Ale
Score: 8/10
ABV: 8.25%
Review: This is a pretty damn decent Scotch Ale. Pours a very dark amber color and has some very sweet qualities on the initial taste. Very caramel/butterscotch almost, but finishes in traditional Scotch Ale fashion. Despite the high ABV it drinks very smoothly and easily with a somewhat underwhelming hop content compared to others. Definitely worth trying if you like Scotch Ales.
