Well, at 28 I've just drank my first ever entire bottle of beer. It was Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. I can't really rate it since I have little to compare it to, but it wasn't bad. The alcohol taste was really strong, but it actually had a flavor to it, chocolate and coffee for the most part. I guess I'm buzzed now, for the first time ever. I must be a lightweight at 225 lbs.

LOL! What a beer to choose as a first. That's like learning to drive in a 500 HP Ferrari in the snow. Not something for the faint of heart. Hell, I'm a huge imperial stout guy and even I find it...bold.

Go big or go home! I don't know, it seemed like the complete opposite of the watery beer I had tried before. I also bought some kind of trappist beer for $7. Sounds like a weekend thing. My faculties are definitely reduced at this point. I was hoping it would just chill me out so I could write my history reports.

Ah, well.

Purchased them at Central Market in Fort Worth on Mar. 4th. I've only had the Weihenstephaner before - it's my all-time favorite beer.

Also did the Rahr & Sons Brewing Company "Tour" yesterday. (It's really a tasting, but they have to call it a tour because they can't sell beer at the brewery because of some Blue Law nonsense.) Had their Red Lager, IPA, and Blonde Lager - all delicious. They also had the Ugly Pug Black Lager out, which is my favorite of their year round brews - but I have it pretty regularly so I decided to try the others instead.

Glad to see that this thread is still alive.

Experimented with some beer-battered fish tonight (never done it before), but I only had Miller Lite ()

Probably going to get a nice stout for the next batch, maybe some Broolyn Chocolate Stout. Mmmm..

With my experience making sausages, using a quality beer makes a huge difference!

I've become a recent fan of Fireman's 4 Blonde Ale after having some at a job interview (They had a kegerator in the kitchen!)

Not BCS for the fish, it is too strong...

You definitely need a good pilsner for a beer batter, but nothing TOO good, it is not the defining flavor of the dish.

Sometimes, like wine, it ie better to get the cheaper stuff because the basic flavors are a bit bolder and do not need to be as smooth (since they are in the meal and not the focus of the thing).

I find, however, that soem good brown ales are great for beef recepies, gravies and stews.... (Two half bottles for the pot, two half bottles for me! )

I'm a fan of Tröegs nugget nectar but never had any others until recently. Tried the pale ale, it was alright. But wow, Hopback is gooood. Very similar to nugget nectar but toned down a bit.

Have you guys tried Bud Light Platinum? It surprisingly tastes halfway decent, is cheap, and 6% abv. 3 beers puts me a great level - but I'm a lightweight. Obviously there is better tasting beer, but if you're looking to get drunk, this'll do it

Mississippi finally got its beer laws somewhat normalized, so there is a lot more selection.

I bought some Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout and I have to say that I like it quite a bit. Even more than Old Rasputin. It's a little watery, but I really like the toasty, chocolate flavors.

Oh, there is an official thread?

Anyway .. this is my brag post.

After years of looking for it, I finally found some Dogfishhead 120 minute IPA. I eagerly await a chance to consume it.

My other thought is that I think my favorite brewer is officially Weyerbacher. In particular, I like their beer called Merry Monks which is a high alcohol content Belgian-style Tripel.

Why is this thread not stickied? It is of the utmost importance.

I was let down by the 120 minute IPA. It was cloyingly sweet and syrupy, and basically no hop character at all; it felt like drinking 40 proof Aunt Jemima, not an overhopped IPA. Hopefully your experience goes better; I might've just got a bad bottle (apparently it happens with the 120 minute IPA).
