In my other thread about beer there seemed to be some interest in having an official beer thread, and since one doesn't exist, I figured that I'd go ahead and start it up. Also, since there have been numerous other threads about beer I thought that it would be nice to have a single thread where people could rate and review beers that they've tried.

The Format

Name: eg. ABC Pale Ale
Brewery: eg. ABC Brewery
Type of Beer: eg. IPA/lager/stout
Score: 1-10
Review: Short review of the beer. Include stuff such as flavor notes, similar beers, and whatever else you want.

All of that being said, tell us about what you drank (or are drinking). Hopefully this will help spread the love of beer to all of our ATOT brothers (and sisters) and get us to try some different stuff.

Here's my first review, to get things rolling:

Name: Local 2

Brewery: Brooklyn Brewery

Type of Beer: Belgian strong dark ale

Score: 9/10

Review: A friend of mine got this for me for my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised at the smooth, rich flavor of the beer. The spices and flavors that were used in brewing definitely work well together. I didn't even feel like I was drinking beer at first. I was a little surprised at how strong the beer was (9% ABV), but I guess it's just because I'm used to drinking "regular" beers.

Pros: Cheap, available pretty much everywhere, light on calories
Cons: Not a whole lot of flavor (this is actually a pro if you're not really into beer but want to drink beer to look cool in front of your friends)

It's better than any of the other cheapies (Natty Light, Beast, etc). Even Beer Advocate gives it a decent rating (B- overall, IIRC).

Review: Pretty good. I got it at Pint Night at a local bar since it was only $2, but I think it went a little skunky prior to serving. Pretty good overall though, nice flavor. I can't really say it tasted like any other beer I've had.

Honestly, for the price you can't beat it. I admit that much.

Name: Torpedo IPA
Brewery: Sierra Nevada
Type of Beer: IPA
Score: 8.5/10
Review: It's an IPA, so very hoppy. lots of cascade hops, which apparently gives it a bit of a piney-cedar taste. About 7.9% alcohol, which might be good or bad, depending.

Review: Smooth, but with just enough hops to taste. Nice flavor, and easy to drink. Also, easy to find and relatively inexpensive

I just finished this stuff too

Name: Sam Adams Noble Pilsner
Brewery: Sam Adams
Type of Beer: Pilsner
Score: 9.5/10
Review: I always try the seasonal's for Sam Adams, they are definitely my favorite National brewery by far!

This beer was quite a surprise, really easy to drink, fruity and lemony hops. Light in color, but NOT lacking in flavor at all. In fact, I will be purchasing more of this before they take it away.

I'm always on the look out for new Sam Adams stuff since their stuff is easy to get at most stores and they have their cool Seasonal packs. I'll definitely try this one out.

Bell's Batch 9000

Type: Imperial Stout
8/10

I couldn't stomach the Batch 7000 or the 8000. They were far too bitter for me. 9000 is a winner though. Very dark with strong molasses and raisin, even though it says brewers licorice too I really didn't pick up on it so much. 12.5% ABV

this is what I have in my fridge right now and the first think I thought to post. I'm definitely a hop head, and this beer is fantastic, definitely my new favorite available-all-year round beer

Name: Sam Adams Coastal Wheat
Brewery: Sam Adams
Type of Beer: Hefeweizen style wheat beer
Score: 8.5/10
Review: Saw this recently at my local liquor store, it's a seasonal and quite good, fairly smooth drinking and nice lemony finish, not hoppy at all(since it's a hefeweizen) Fairly carbonated, I will pick up another 6 pack if/when I see it again.

Review: Came in huge bottles. Higher alcohol content than most other lagers. The ones I had came from very near the brewery so they were always fresh. Probably not the same taste if I bought it here in the U.S. (if it is even available).

Review: A buddy of mine brought it over because I was having some people over and I needed beer. I would call it a MUCH better version of PBR. Pretty good taste for the money... I think my buddy said it was something like $18 for a case.

Review: This is supposed to be one of the best of this style, so I guess its just not my taste. Very carbonated and sweet. I drank it earlier tonight so I can't put my finger on specific flavors, but if you like belgian style beers I'm sure you'll like this one. Almost a champagne like beer

I like it a lot too, but I can't see making it my every day beer because of the alcohol content. I like to have 2-3 a night if possible, and 3 of these puts me well into hangover territory, which isn't an option.

Review: This is getting some great reviews on beeradvocate but I'm not sure why, doesn't seem like something they'd like. It is a very simple and light beer, not complex at all. Not much flavor. It was very drinkable though, and a ton better than bud/coors etc so its definitely something I would drink at a bar.

Review: Thick, hearty powerful stout that will knock your socks off. abv typically about 11 percent. Pour slowly or you'll end up with a huge foamy 4" head. Very hoppy, dark, yet somehow smooth. Preferred tasting temperature is around 45 to 50 degrees, although you can drink this beer at room temperature. One of my favorite beers of all time, although I recommend drinking no more than 2 at a sitting, and best to drink it in small sips so that you can taste the incredible flavor and density behind this amazing stout.

It'd be interesting if we included a "value" score too. I absolutely love St Bernardus ABT 12....but at $12 (or more) a bottle it's not a very good value.
