I just signed up for redhotpawn and it looks great! Definitely much easier than photoshoping each move. Of course, even with redhotpawn, the rules would still apply and you would need to also post your move through the forums.

Derek, I'm not sure if doing ascii chess is worth the time involved. I understand where you are coming from, but I think the work involved would deter too many people.

With the amount of PMs I'm getting, it wouldn't be too hard to have an ATOT tournament.

As much as I would like to keep the game on the boards, it seems that redhotpawn seems to be the best bet. Since we have a decent list of players, I'd like to start on the games ASAP. What would you guys like to be a good cutoff time for registration?

Edit:
Unless someone agrees to post updates of the boards periodically, I don't see any other practical way.

how about we get it started with a little sticky ...

i'd like to get this started soon as well, and i would like to keep it on the boards if at all possible.

using a 3rd party service to handle the overhead is ok, but it'd be better if everyone who wanted to view the match didn't need an account like it seems you would with redhotpawn ... is there any way around that? is taking a quick snapshot of the board and posting it back here an option?

thanks for the sticky Derek.

i'd be happt to snap pics but registration at redhotpawn is pretty simple, and that way we could post all pics, every move and people can accesss it from anywhere to make their move.

but i'd take randome pics.

i just want to get this going

Sounds kind of fun... Those of us that don't have much free time -- especially not in big blocks -- can use this. No way on the photoshopping / posting pics etc though, that just makes it very cumbersome. Provided no photo posting is needed, I'd be in as well. Too bad it's so easy to cheat, otherwise some prizes would be feasible. Perhaps some small prizes, such as a custom forum title etc would be fun.

Count me in (no pic posting though!), skill level = lower end of intermediate.

Does everyone who signed up have redhotpawn account pawn account? Let me know if you don't, as I plan on making game assignments on Tuesday/Wednesday at the latest. It's going to be kinda confusing posting about multiple games in one thread, but this should be mitigated by the fact that the screenshots from the games will make them easy to follow.

Edit:
I'm also going to edit the post later today to reflect that I have created an official ruleset based off of your suggestions. I just don't have time to edit it right now.

well, if we're going to require a redhotpawn accct, we should maybe have a format like---

rise v. xeemzor:

--- "e2 to e4" -add link to the redhot site board.

it can be made public, right?

that's like 8 edits, must be time for bed....

Yup, that's the correct format.

I would love to play. My moniker on RHP is the same as it is here. The only thing I'm not clear on is: are these individual games, or are they forum wide games, and if so how are you divvying up the teams?

As an addendum, RHP now supports private tournaments, so if you messaged Russ he may be able to get it set up. Note that playtheimmortalgame.com, redhotpawn.com, timeforchess.com and chessatwork.com are all the same site with different skins.

I was just planning on doing a tradition tournament bracket, without any individual teams.

Posted the chess game assignments. Also, don't feel bad if you lose this round, as there will be a runoff tournament for all the first round losers. If your opponent does not respond within a reasonable manner of time, let me know and I will try to reassign you.

Yep, thanks Xeemzor for getting this going... I'm surprised we don't have a few more ATOT folks that want to play. My level of play is certainly low and I have few expectations, but it's fun regardless.

Anyhow, I started a game with my opponent (ChAoTiCpInOy) and selected "random" for the white or black question.
