I would consider it separate from normal javascript as you typically need to be familiar both with this special way of using js as well as handling it on the server's end. Anybody who is anybody can write js but they can't necessarily handle AJAX. Nor does that mean anybody who writes js and server-side components has any experiences with the nuances that come with AJAX.

I'm not sure how often I'll be here to answer questions, but I'm strong in: PERL, PHP, VBScript

I've also done some:

MatLab, C, C++, HTML, JavaScript, ASM, Java

Although I haven't touched Java or ASM in awhile: I'm not very up on Java 1.5+ or the ASM SIMD instructions.

I would say AJAX means successfully using XMLHTTPRequest in Javascript to access something on a server. Unfortunately, I don't quite fit that definition.

P.S. No Python?

I use Java on a daily basis at work & school, but what I do in C is specific to research so my scope is limited. I'm fairly familar with the syntax ins and outs, flow of control, etc, but I just don't have time to familarize myself with standard libraries and things of the like.
