Using an EPOX 8KHA+, I am not able to use the Audigy card as it cut-out in a few minutes after playing MP3 music. Audigy claims it to be PCI latency problem (with VIA mobo's). When setting PCI latency to max of 255, the cut-outs occur less frequently. VIA PCI latency Latency Patch didn't help either. Reported above to Creative, and still waiting for resolution. Ths problem has been reported in many forums. Swapped card with SBLIVE, and that is working fine.

However, Sharma said that it appears to be a bus resource issue

A Creative soundcard with a bus resource issue? I don't believe it. </sarcasm>

<< Creative Technology Ltd.'s latest Audigy sound cards seem to be plagued by an elusive "squeal of death" that is causing random lockups in PCs using the card and the latest Windows operating systems... the problem has been characterized as "severe," according to representatives at Creative. >>

Hmmmm... something called the "squeal of death" may be severe... go figure

Uhh, dude, it's out already. GTXP 6.1 == new drivers for the GTXP!! New packaging with the new drivers on the CD also include Cyberlink's new PowerDVD XP 4.0 softDVD player.

Anyway, it's very weird but Dell has had several reports of this problem as well. Moreover, as we all know, Dell uses Intel-based mobos so I guess this problem goes beyond the ole' "VIA problem" Luckily, I've run the Audigy Platinum eX under Win2k and WinMe without problems and am currently using the Audigy Platinum under WinXP Pro without problems.

This is actually the first I've heard of this problem. Looks like it may be related to ACPI under Win2k/WinXP again. I've got three Audigys running under WinXP and have never encountered this problem before. I agree with the article that it's probably a driver problem of some type causing a resource conflict.

Were they using Via chipset? Via and Creative is like water and oil, can't mix them!

Actually, several Intel chipsets (including i850) have documented PCI latency troubles. So the mere fact that Dell has had some users experiencing such issues isn't a big surprise.

VIA most definitely has issues, and not just with Audigy.

I have experienced zero issues with my Tyan dual boards (AMD 762/766) nor my SiS 735/745 boards. Rock solid, any driver revision. No troubles.

I used to get this problem with my Sblive 5.1 & currently with my audigy. I thought this was the via/sblive/audigy problem, apparently not. I would always get the "squeal of death" after a fresh re-install of windows(98se & xp). Anyway, I fix it by installing george breese's via pci latency patch. Then everything works fine.

I'm loving my TB Santa Cruz even more now. Everyday I realize I made the better buy.

It's funny how people cry about creative for years with the SBLive series, then go around and buy the Audigy.. then cry again.

This is creative. They don't care about you. They probably even knew of this problem a while ago. Heck, how could they not know their products are crap.

Support companies that support paying customers - buy Voyetra, Hercules, Phillips, etc..

Somehow I doubt those who cried about SBLive would have ran out and got an Audigy. I would never go back to my old Santa Cruz. Every new product goes through this period of bugs. The Santa Cruz was no different when it first came out, the Herc was even worse.

Missed this one.

I think he might be refering to Herc's next generation GTXP. The one that was suppose to have been based on the same sound chip as the next gen Santa Cruz. I think the rumored name was "Dominator" or something like that for the SC2. Anyway, this was the sound card I was waiting on, but I haven't seen any news or updates regarding it since the Audigy came out. My guess is that Sensaura went back to the drawing boards once they knew for sure what the Audigy release specs were.

I have a SBLive in my old PC and the fact that I`ve never had any problems was part of the decision to buy the SB Audigy for my new PC,so I`m 2 for 2 with no problems so I for one am not crying .

The Santa Cruz is a great sound card and a great alternative to the SB Audigy but at the end of the day it`s what works and sounds best for you in your system .

i've had the terratec dmx x-fire for about a year now, kicked out my live because i got crackling on the speakers at times, and i was a little dissapointed with creative labs attitude towards people with trouble with their soundcards, let alone their drivers.

My terratec card has been trouble free ever since i bought it, crystal clear sound and excellent drivers.
