do you really need more than 1mbps to video call? I mean I used to webcam in college when we had 4mbps/256kbps Comcast. That was fine I recall.

obviously more is better. if it's a solid 1mbps up, you're right that it should be plenty. on wifi though, there's potential for something else in your house to be using up that bandwidth. cell network is all yours, so maybe that accounts for the issues some people see on wifi.

i have 75/35 fios and google talk video is crystal clear. i can even get it to work on edge which is maybe 80kbps up, but it is extremely blocky.

You can have the same issues on a cell network if there's not enough bandwidth to go around or so many people are trying to use it that it generates too much noise for anyone to do anything.

Here's my take on the whole LTE thing:

Verizon: 3g is shit, LTE is required
Sprint: 3g is shit, LTE is required
AT&T: 3g is decent, LTE is nice, but not a big deal
T-mobile: 3g is very good, LTE is not needed

Nexus 4: only works on T-mobile and AT&T.

Based on that, im not going to fault a phone designed to operate on networks where LTE is not neccessary or existant for not including LTE.

If google ever releases a CDMA Nexus 4 without LTE, then we can bitch.

You should separate Sprint and VZW's 3G. Verizon's 3G is pretty much always between 1-2mbps and Sprint's is almost always below 0.5. VZW's 3G is good enough to stream youtube and netflix.

While I completely agree with what you're saying, it also comes down to...

Verizon Coverage: Fantastic (near perfect in most cases)
AT&T Coverage: Pretty damn great (still hear reports about dropped calls and just some sketchiness)
T-MO Coverage: Make sure you live in a well populated city
Sprint: Same as T-MO if not a little better

With that said, I think the best option for me personally would be AT&T since it has great coverage where I live and with Straight Talk, I'd be getting a solid deal.

Does anyone have experience with Tmobile 30 prepaid phone plan (100 min/unlimited txt/5gb data) and tablets?

I was wondering if it would be possible if you could buy the Nexus 7 with the 3g modem and put it one the above plan.

The T-Mobile Walmart plan does not work on tablets.

This is what I'm afraid of, for Rogers/Fido. I have complaints for 3G on older phones, but my friends with LTE phones love it.

However, I don't own a recent HSPA+ phone to test. My current phone is an iPhone 4.

The thing about AT&T is that in typical use in residential areas I'm fine. At my gf's place I can log 10mbps on HSPA+. But when you go anywhere near crowded, like even my local mall, the speeds crawl. It's not a consistent 300 kbps either. It downloads a bit, then halts, and waits, etc. Yeah certain areas in the SF Bay Area are beefed up like the ball park and some stadiums to handle data. If AT&T can beef up HSPA+ in areas like Las Vegas where you're better off running 2G than 3G, then I don't mind as much. But they either need to fix their capacity issues on 3G or I would like LTE capabilities so that I don't get screwed.

nope, identical. you'd have to be an idiot to buy it from tmobile.

It's sad that T-Mobile wants to lock their customer into 2 yr contract so bad that they're willing to lie about the MSRP of the phone. Tells you everything you need to know about T-Mobile.

One of the editors at Android Central got his Nexus 4 in for review and did a small pre-review Q&A on their forum (thread is gone now).

Highlights are that he says that the phone feels "solid" and the screen is very, very close to the SLCD2 in the HTC OneX, but he thinks the OneX screen is a tiny bit better. He also said that his 16GB had 13GB of free space when he turned it on.

Nothing new about the US carriers. But you're right I'd expect better from T-Mobile than AT&T and Verizon.

I applaud T-Mobile. If taking money from naive people helps keep them around so I can continue using my $30 5GB plan, then I'm all for it.

Wow. They're right. It does look freaking fantastic. I wish it was on Verizon so bad! If anyone were to look at a map of my coverage, it's completely pathetic which carrier to choose. It goes Verizon >>>>>>>> AT&T >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> T-Mo.

Also, the worst part is I'm on an employee account so I get my plan for a lot cheaper than the norm and I have unlimited data. This phone is making me seriously question if I want to leave VZW for it. I might wait a while for the 32 GB that's bound to come out, and then buy it.. We'll see!

Seriously thinking of ditching my iPad 3 for the Nexus 10. Only thing that's holding me back is I've only ever had iPads and I don't know how the Android experience would compare.
