Agree. Don't fight devices, just use what you want/like. Life is too short. You may even make profit selling off Nexus 4 anyway. ()
Anyhow, do people experiment with developer options in Jellybean? There are two options that reads related to hardware acceleration;
I found the second one, "Force GPU Rendering," makes my Nexus 7 noticeably smoother. It isn't immediately evident in UI, but in some cases the difference is quite dramatic.
- Live wallpapers (not all of them)
- Apps.. Some apps that were stuttery (such as ROM Toolbox) before is buttery smooth with it checked. Can't tell which apps benefit more (or at all) but so far there hasn't been anything erratic.
- PDF is markedly smoother and faster. :thumbsup: Performance varies per app. Amazon's Kindle app is the best among what I have that can display pdf documents. With the "Force GPU rendering" box checked, now I simply drop pdfs in Kindle folder and read them without noticing stutters. Zooming and panning is as smooth as I see elsewhere. Before I discovered this I converted pdfs to ebook formats. No longer.
I tried the first option as well (Disable HW overlays), but I did not perceive what difference it makes. Does anyone know what the difference between these two options?
Another Q: How do I use custom pictures/icons for the ugly default widgets for library items?
