They had it. Who else would have played in the last game of the year besides Michigan and Ohio State?

Then make them play again. OSU may not have cleared that extra hurdle against a top notch opponent that SEC, Big 12 and ACC teams have to clear each year and then maybe Michigan or USC might be in this game right now instead of OSU.

So then a team would have to beat the same team twice to prove their worth? Isn't that exactly what every Florida and OSU fan were arguing AGAINST regarding Michigan and a rematch?

Conference championship games generally create more problems than they help resolve.

Which is why people love playoffs.

Florida was not the top ranked team in the nation last year. The Cardinals did not have the best record in baseball. The Steelers were a wild card team..

A single game creates too much variance (pardon the poker term). It puts all of the proverbial eggs in one basket.

yeah, the fluke is there has been a over a month since the last team either team played a game, far longer than any period in-between their regular season games. Otherwise, both teams finished their regular seasons well enough to qualify for this game.
