i was about the 160th person in line. they allowed about 150 people go in first then waited about 5 mins before they allowed another group to go in. at first, the hitachi drives were cleared instantly the store was opened. i saw a guy put a hitachi 160gb back on the shelf and quickly grabbed it. 10 mins later while i was walking around the store, i looked at the box i was holding and noticed it said "parallel ata" rather than "serial ata". at that point, i was hearbroken. . i waited in line for 2 hrs empty handed. all of a sudden a compusa guy walks down the isle with a cart stacked with hitachi sata drives, about 4 rows of them. i quickly ran to him and my family and i grabbed a total of 8 boxes. we didnt have enough time to think so we just grabbed as much as possible. then we walked to the corner of the store and thought how much we really needed. i decided to keep 4 and put the rest back to the shelves. it was a glorious night and i got everything i wanted.

edit: anyone know how i should go about with the rebates? all 4 drives were bought seperatly (4 transactions). the ad did not say limit 1 person, but should i play it on the safe side and write 4 different names/addresses?

Just give one to me..and I will deal with the rebates!

i kinda need all four. one for desktop, three for server (raid 5).

DIAF.
Those fkin compusa employees told me what ever is outside is what is left in their inventory.

LIARS.
LIARS.
YOU GUYS MADE ME SPEND $250 MORE FOR THE ALTERNATIVE BUILD.
I JUST NEEDED THAT SATA HARD DRIVE.

I'd say the best place to shop at for BF is Fry's. I was over there at 4:50am (opens at 5), and the line to get into the store was at least 1000 long. At least it moved fast. Even with tons of people in the store, it was surprisingly civil. No mad rushing crowds, no trampling. That was because they had a lot of everything in stock. There was no need to wait hours before store opening. Carts were piled double-high; it looked like everybody got what they came for.

Even with 40 registers running, the wait in line was about 2 hours long. I remember seeing the line go far back and I followed it. I saw it bend left and trail endlessly down the store. An employee asked if I was standing in line and I said yes. He told me to go RIGHT. Yeah, the line was that long. I followed it and saw the line snake around multiple aisles. It was nearly impossible to tell where the line started.

In any case, Fry's is much better than those bait and switch stores like BB and Circuit City that short stock you on BF just to get you in the door. Not to mention, saving yourself the risk of getting trampled.

I bought:
X-Connect 500w psu 4.99 AR
1gb thumb drive 34.99
256mb thumb drive 9.99
usb 2 wireless-g network adapter 9.99
Lost S1 DVD box set 23.99
Shrek 2 DVD 2.99
Collateral DVD 2.99

Other tempting deals that I did not decide to take were:
Computer case w/amd 2400 sempron, 256mb ram, 40gb hd, onboard video and stuff: $99
19" LCD monitor: $189 AR

I got the CC Toshiba laptop. I live in the DFW area, the first store I went to at 9:30pm had 25 people in line already. With 15 min per store I didn't want to take my chances. I quickly got in the car and drove 20 minutes to another store where I was 11th. I froze, got about 30 minutes of fitful sleep all night long, but when the store opened at 5am I had my voucher in my hand. It still took me 90 minutes to get in, sign up for the AOL sorriness, and check out, but I got it for $237.11. Nice.

By the time I made it to Frys I missed out on the $179 MiniDV camcorder and the $35 1Gb USB drive. I still got a 512mb drive for $20 and a rice cooker for $7.

I then went to Home Depot and got the 12 gallon Ridgid shopvac for $25 and a 10 inch Ryobi compound miter saw for $59.

All in all a good Black Friday. I was tired cold and miserable, but I'll do it all over again next year.

Went to walmart (open 24/7) for the laptop. I was told they had 57 of them, there was a line of about 200 so I just left. Slept-in & went to Brandsmart USA, got a Samsung 4667w dlp tv for just under $1600, so I was happy. Time to order hdtv package from my cable provider.

There are better dell deals you know... I've seen dell laptops go for $399 on their website, while dell quality isn't really there anymore, I'm sure it's better than the walmart laptops...

i definately would not even consider buying a laptop unless it had at minimum an 8 cell battery, an ati video card of some kind, pentium m capable, and widescreen display.

oh, and no 90 day warranty BS!

I looked at the Dell laptop, it has a Celeron-M (no power saving). Also after taxes & shipping it came out to almost over $100 more. I also wanted a 15" screen, for the dell you needed to pay $30 extra for a 15".

I got to my Best Buy at 22:30 on Thrusday and I was about 30th in line. Most everyone there were professional campers. The people in front of me had generators, tents, heaters, tvs, an xbox, oh, and one had a fire. I dressed up in about 10 layers of clothing and was perfectly warm the entire night.

I picked up a laptop for a friend and a digital camera.

On that note, the laptop line was hell. I had to stand in that line for two hours to wait to get it. Note that in that two hours I moved about 20 feet.

Next year I'm first in line.

LOL I know that feeling, everyone wants to buy a laptop or computer and best buy makes the process way more complicated than it needs to be, asking if you want a warranty or this or that, etc.

the 2nd year i did this i was smart and ran to that line right away.
