My folks called to say they were OK (they live in ramona. My dad helped a friend get some stuff out of their house today.

Domn I do hate the cold here in MN but I can say we haven't had any fires

Hope all the SD Anandtechers are well. I'm doing fine out here in El Cajon. Can see the glow to the east - probably 5 miles away. Wife's stuck in AZ, though; she's really annoyed, though, because there is no coverage of it out there.

at least from my position it looks like we're gonna be fine.. at least for the night.

the fires look pretty well either knocked down or stopped. as i said, at least from my position. i havent turned on news in awhile.

one of my father's coworkers called my father asking if it was business as usual tomorrow, cause he was sitting on top of his house spraying it down. i hope his house is alright.

yeah, good luck, i hope all SD-ers are as lucky tonight.

i wonder how it's gonna look tomorrow morning

No doubt...

Wonder what will happen if the winds kick up again in the early morning like they are predicting.

Ok, just got back from the front lines(poway high area). Was in this area(see pics) for about an hour before a saw 1 firetruck. I took about 60 pics, here are 12.

If you notice in pic #00060 , that wall of flame going towards the tree. By the time it got to the bottom of the tree, people had put it out to just embers. These were just volunteers off the streets coming together to help out the people in a row of house near by. Retarded thing is, as we were leaving, the police were telling everyone to leave. I am almost positive these people saved at least 1 house, if not saved, at least stalled the fire until the firefighters got there. Damn cops don't know WTF they are talking about, they sounded surpirsed that there were people right up against the fire with hoses...as if they would watch their fvcking house burn down.

Hey, Mike, be careful out there! Looks like you're kinda close! Thanks for the pics, by the way; my wife's in Arizona and I sent her this thread so she could see what's going on.

And be nice to the cops - they're just trying to protect people from themselves. They aren't professional firefighters and could get injured or killed - and I don't disagree with them trying to protect their stuff, either; the cops are just trying to keep them from getting in too deep.

Heh, thanks Clint. I know the cops are just doing their job, if they didn't care...they wouldn't be doing their jobs.

How big is this fire?

What percentage of the city has seen damage?

Are there any aerial photos of this thing?
