Try twice that. Numbers are sketchy, but they are saying 140k+, 500+ structures burned, 11+ dead. And just to make it more interesting a forecast of gusty winds and low humidity - should make for a tough day fighting fires...

Any Hot deal on fire extinguisher?

This happen every year right? So why don't they do something about it? Instead of having house burn every year, why not dig a pipe up there for pumps to pump water up there?

Or having springler install on every 3 trees. *heheh* Just kidding.

But they should do something about this problem.

Charge the setter of the fire to 11 charges of involuntary manslaughter? What kind of sentence did the forest ranger who started that big one a year or 2 get?

Hope you guys are safe. My wifes family and friends are still in SD

no it dosen't happen every year, this is the worst by far ahead of any other to happen in 10 years in california, and over 30 YEARS in san diego

just a combination of low precipitation, santa ana winds, etc

I'm new to these forums and not looking foor a welcome in this thread. Walleye, this is far from over. Pray for a mild winter wet season. Have the bags for sand ready. If we get heavy rains look out!
I have lived on the Coast of Long Beach for fifty years. and its UFB what has washed ub on the shore after a bad fire season+heavy rains.
be safe in your fire chasing, John

those combined with a hunter with marbles for brains..

All of the fatalities happened since Saturday. Nine people were killed by the so-called Cedar Fire in San Diego County, the state's largest blaze at approximately 100,000 acres. About 260 homes, ranging from modest to expensive, were destroyed.

The San Diego County victims included two people who died inside their car as they apparently tried to escape the flames, which witnesses said moved so fast they didn't get any warning.

That fire was started Saturday near the mountain town of Julian when a lost hunter set a signal fire, authorities said. The hunter may face charges.

That looks bad. Is this worse than the Malibu fires in the 90's? I remember it raining ashes when I was back in SoCal then.
Take care.

well, we're not exactly a coastline city, as we're behind some huge mountains. in 8 years, i've never seen any reasonable rain here. (kinda depressing really.. last good thunderstorm i saw was in colorado, 9 years ago)

the ash is terrible though. i wonder if poway lake burned

I'm at work right now in Vista (west of Escondido) and it is pretty smokey here with quite a bit of ash in the air. It is better indoors and I have the air purifier running at home with the house all closed up so I will be able to breath clean air when I get home tonight. It is really bad outside though.

Hey, Walleye, have you heard anything about the Garden Road area? I have a couple of very close family friends that have been evacuated from there and any news that you might have would be appreciated.

Scripps area is where it was the worst. like 150 homes lost there. i dont think it made it very far into the valleys, though. i think (and hope) that garden road is relatively safe. the burning that was coming down the hillside was stopped where i was most worried about it, and it was stopped midway down the hillside.

there was some more burning going on over the ridge that i couldnt see.

I honestly think that garden road area is ok. what was hit worst was the scripps/scripps-poway parkway area.

Unfortunately, Garden Road lost about 20 homes. One of my friends lost their back fence. Their son says that another friend of ours probably saved it with a garden hose, and that probably isn't exaggeration - he's a firefighter. Also, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th house on the left hand side when you turn onto Whitewater are gone - that's about 3 or 4 houses away from my wife's mother's old place. She still has very close friends that lived right next door, but it sounds like they (and their home) escaped unscathed. He mentioned some other spots, but I don't know the area well enough to give anything more accurate than what I have already.
