michigan has run more plays and had the ball longer than ohio state.

i wonder if rich rodriguez hadn't been able to get pat white and steve slaton if he'd have gotten the michigan job?

Doesn't matter how long you have possession or how many plays you have when you only convert 1 third down.

Still, I think that this year is a bit of a fluke for U of M. Rodriguez has introduced a new system and he's dealing with players that he didn't recruit for that system. I think that next year and the year after we'll see U of M with a much better team.

a good coach would fit his system to the players he has.

i really hope that this doesn't turn into a bill calahan (at least rodriguez had proven that he can win), because a good michigan is good for college football. but i'm not going to hold my breath. at least michigan shouldn't have as much trouble recruiting athletes as nebraska has had (little known fact: texas forced the big xii to have higher academic standards than the big 8 was used to and that has played quite a role in nebraska's downturn)

True, but you can only do so much with a pair of quarterbacks who would probably not be deserving of a starting, or even backup, position on most respectable Division 1-A teams. I think this may have been one of the biggest problems with the Rodriguez transition, as many of the decent offensive players jumped ship when the new coach took over.

Ultimately there are no excuses, though. The current Michigan team is terrible. Hopefully they can make some significant improvements next year.

I absolutely agree with the hope that Rodriguez turns things around. I would love to have a true rivalry with U of M, where we swap a win every year, like it was with Hayes and Schembechler. It's better for everyone that way.

Negative, I don't want that win/lose aspect , but I do want the rivalry to remain and for UM to be a damn good team. Better for the Big 10 when both OSU and UM are strong teams, and now with PSU entering the fray into damn good teams, hopefully they can stay there and it wasn't a fluke.
UM being so pathetic this year, it just hurt to watch. I've never seen that, hell I remember back in the late 90s when it was far more common to see UM walk away with a win than OSU.
