Since the beta is over and the release is only days away I thought it appropriate to start a thread for the full game.
For those who don't know Destiny is a sci-fi first person shooter with a shared world releasing on 4 platforms(PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, & Xbox One). You can transfer progress forward between platforms. Meaning if you begin your character on the PS3 you can transfer that to the PS4 later on if you decide to purchase one. Likewise for the XB360 to the XB1. As you explore the game and travel for story missions and other activities you will meet other players in the game world. Public events may occur that require you to team up with others to clear the objective. You do not have to be in a party to participate in these events. Fireteams can be made for any activity. You can team up to play through the story, do a strike, a raid, or just explore. Strikes will use matchmaking to team you with other players. Raids will not and require you to form your own fireteam prior to taking them on. Voice chat is enabled by default in a fireteam. Co-Op is a very big focus in the game as is finding new and better loot for your character including armor and weapons. In addition to this there is a PvP section called the Crucible where you can team up with and against other players. Unique rewards are obtained through the Crucible. In the Crucible your armor level and weapons are normalized so that a lower level player is not dominated by a high level player. It will be based on your skill. There will be special Crucible events called Iron Banner that remove this restriction and allow you to take full advantage of your leveled weapons and armor. There are three classes. Hunter, Warlock, and Titan. Each with unique abilities and bonus attributes. Each of these three classes has three subclasses you level up as well. These give you different melee attacks, different specials, different grenades, and boost various attributes like jumping, run speed, and shield recharge rate.
The basic story is that Earth was once in a golden age of civilization. Human life span tripled, we colonized the solar system including Mars, The Moon, and Venus. After centuries an ancient evil known only as "The Darkness" descended upon our solar system nearly wiping humanity out. Earth is ravaged and is nothing more than desolate wastes save for one lone city that survived. You play as a Guardian, one of the defenders of city and given powers by the Traveler, an ancient and mysterious celestial body that was responsible for Humanity's golden age which lays dormant over the last remaining city on Earth. Nobody knows if the traveler is dead or not, but they do know that it made a last stand against The Darkness that came to sweep Humanity out of existance. Guardians make their home in the Tower which sits above the city.
