FTFYWell here is to hoping Destiny 2 is a lot bit better with the everything.
FTFY
Honestly, the only thing that doesn't need improvement in my eyes is the engine / shooting mechanics.
Finally, Thunderlord....though I'm not sure how much I care anymore.
I recently tried out Destiny, on it's trial demo thinger....
Gotta say, terrible first impressions here. Reviewers praised the gunplay, but my thoughts were that the guns felt OK, but seemed unbalanced, and the enemy AI was TERRIBLE. "Difficult" mobs were just bullet sponges that just wiggle around in a small area, and didn't pursue me at all when I dropped back into cover.
Graphics felt unimpressive... but that's probably since I was playing Bloodborne too much recently. Going from ground textures with tessellation, back to ground textures with simple bump mapping, for example, is pretty noticeable. Some of the plant meshes and such were pretty weak, but I think I'd still be a little unfair if I said the game looked "bad". But, it looked like "remastered" "last gen" game, for sure.
Voice acting and plot stuff has been absolutely horrible. Peter Dinklage's entire performance should be pulled, and redone, IMHO. Why won't anyone tell my character who's supposedly been dead for a long time, what the hell is happening?
Anyway, it was pretty bland and all, but the real kicker was right from the start of the game I was running into level 24-30 players camping the low level zones. So here I am, level 3 or something, unable to shoot any mobs in my zone because a 3 person group of 27ish people were farming them for some reason. I was like, WTF? And went online to search about it, and apparently the game's loot tables are so messed up that these players are doing this because the drops on the higher level content are no better than the drops on the level 4 dregs and such.
Whenever a saw another player, they were almost always like 20 levels higher than me, and the whole experience left me feeling.... sorta angry about it. I mean, here these high level players are, killing all my stuff, and I can't even talk to them... since there's no easy in game way to do so.
Anyway, I went temped on the $30 sales going around on this game, but after playing it... Probably not.

lol Disagree. You've picked one feature it doesn't have and said the game looks last gen. Environment textures in destiny look amazing.
Tomb raider is not online with all the mmo style gameplay. Maybe that's all they could do with this engine. I am just speculating. They obviously wanted to do more than they did with the game though. Many developer interviews say as much.
I was curious, so I did a few searches and found this quote from Jason Sussman at Bungie:
"Were cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. Were always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience,
Note the emphasis on "the same experience" in this quote, which was addressing why the game wasn't 60 FPS on the XBO and PS4.
Probably more on the gameplay and things they do on that end to reuse the same engine. You can build an engine that scales between platforms. Battlefield is an example of that. There was a big split at bungie and I don't think they released what they wanted to release in any form. They had contractual obligations with activision.
GamesBeat: Does the complexity of the art have something to do with that, or is it something else that means you have to target 30 versus 60?
Sussman: Its a lot of different things. I could get really technical, but Id bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. Were cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. Anyone playing how on xb1?
