20 hours??? I'm at 700 on Vanilla + TDB + HOW

Grinding does not necessarily = content.

Even if you casually play the story (vanilla through HoW), it'll only be about 5 hours worth. Doing the raids and strikes adds a few hours too depending on your group. So all in all, if you wanted to experience everything at least once, yeah it'd be 20+ hours easily.

But to say 700 hours of content when 90% of it is just re-running the same stuff to find that one exotic doesn't seem like real "content" to me.

If I play it and enjoy it then it counts. It may not be 700 hours of content, but I got 700 hours of play for $95 so far so the $40 is an easy decision.

Is Destiny really that fun? I know many people compare Warframe to Destiny but while I do see the similarity, it not really the same game. Warframe is not in first person so it going to be a different experience.

A lot of people say Warframe is better so I'm not sure if I want to dive into Destiny. I got bore and tire of Warframe repetitiveness and I have had over 500 hours in that game so I don't know if It be the same for Destiny?

Is there a reason you left for nearly a whole year? I did the exact same thing with Warframe so that just kind of like creepy because these two games are constantly being compare with one another. I just don't want to play another game that I already played.

WoW expansion came out like the week before Crotas end came out, I think the first time I logged back in since then is when Ghorn was for sale on Xur a cpl weeks ago

GW2 is much more MMOish vs the first one,

I never played Warframe, but I've been pretty much a Day 1er for Destiny. However, I've been debating if I want to play TTK, only b/c I'm getting a little burned out of Destiny. I might consider jumping over to BO3 when it comes out, but that still leaves a 2 month gap.

But Destiny is fun, but with TTK coming around, jumping in now almost feels worthless as nearly all your gear will be obsolete when TTK comes out in a few weeks.

You asked him why he left Destiny for a year.

He responded that he left Destiny because world of warcraft ("WoW") came out with a new expansion a week before Crota's End (Destiny's the Dark Below expansion raid) came out, thus he quit Destiny to go play WoW.

Ghorn = Gjallahorn (exotic weapon in Destiny)
Xur = (special NPC in Destiny)

Hope that helps.

I did the same thing as Anubis in Destiny. I quit playing On April 7 according to my Bungie profile page. He left before I did, but both of us were playing daily before Crota's End released. I left because I was sick of the game cheating me with rewards. The weekly heroic strike would reward you with 9 strange coins on hard by default. I was consistently getting 6 strange coins from the weekly nightfall strike which is actually harder to complete. After 4 weeks in a row of getting coins, ascendent shards, or a weapon I would dismantle anyway I quit playing the game. The loot system was broken. Might still be I dunno. When playing a game like Diablo 3 I am tossed tons of loot from a major boss in a rift for example. I don't have to hope that the one reward you get for completing a 30minute mission will be something decent. There's not enough chances to get the weapons and armor I actually needed. They made you do raids to get armor and upgrade materials to progress in levels and often the one piece you need would never drop. Worse is you can only do the raid once a week per character. I was running it twice on the same class hoping for the drops I need and the game seemed to know what you want and give you something worthless to you.

The game was fun when I was playing, but I really got annoyed at the loot system and all that. The game got to the point where people would only take those who had a Gjallarhorn and some fights consisted of everyone burning the boss with that weapon and if you fail, you wait for ammo synthesis to recharge and you try again. I didn't have that weapon so it was harder for me to find groups at times.

What I hear though is that some things are changing. I haven't read up on the changes though. My problem wasn't the guns, the FPS, or any of the game play. It was the way they distributed rewards. There was no desire for me to keep trying over and over because you weren't allowed. In Diablo I can keep going into Rifts hoping to see something I want drop for a set I want to have. There are so many chances for it to drop that I keep trying and trying. Destiny didn't offer me that. I could log in on tuesday when the reset occurred and do the weekly, nightfall, raid be disappointed in what I got from them and that was it. Then I would log out until the next tuesday. If I did happen to get some gear I would use, I had to do daily bounties over and over every day to get the XP to level it up. The bounties were basically the same every time except the world you need to go to was different. The bounties were things like kill a specific number of majors or ultras of a specific race, complete a certain mission on heroic difficulty, get 100 head shots on a certain enemy type etc. That got pretty lame to me. I was one of the people defending the game and all that too. After almost 400 hours or whatever it was, I decided it just wasn't worth my time getting pissed at the garbage rewards the game was giving me every time.

Ding ding ding!!! That's exactly why I quit playing Destiny too. The so-called RNG-driven loot system didn't do it for me, and I wasn't in to Crucible. IMHO, Bungie only truly rewards those that grind it out in the Crucible, and that's another nail in the coffin for them to me.

Speaking of Crucible(which is the PvP mode in case anyone didn't know) There was always this problem that the player trying hardest for the team and doing the most work and getting the most points or kills would not be adequately rewarded for his or her efforts. There have been too many times when I've heard from a friend or on a forum that someone who died 50 times and only got a couple of kills, gets a piece of exotic gear. The guy with the most kills and least deaths? Probably a weapon they won't use. That's just ridiculous. There was nothing in place that gave a higher chance for an exotic weapon or armor to the ones who tried hardest or scored the best in the match. The RNG system truly failed here IMO. When someone can almost stand still the whole match and get an exotic what kind of incentive is there to try at all? As a joke a couple of my friends went into crucible together and they all stood around, only moving enough to not get kicked out of the game. When it was over one of them got an exotic weapon. Not a very good one compared to others (no land beyond) but we thought it was the funniest thing. No effort and you get a killer reward. Meantime like I said doing the nightfall rewards me with nothing useful. Even worse than that was when someone popped into your mission via matchmaking and you were at the boss and you kill it before they can get to your location. I've seen that person who never fired a shot, walk away with a pretty good exotic weapon. There were no safeguards in place to prevent this from happening.

they fixed the loot BTW, at least that's what I was told, they drop like candy now according to the people I know still play

this happened to me last night

ran a strike (lvl 28 one) - legendary scout rifle - all 3 people in the strike got a legendary
ran 1 crucible match - legendary auto rifle - like 8 people go legendarys

ran the nightfall on 2 toons, 1 exotic chest, 2nd one exotic shotgun

Woah there, that is nothing remotely to why I left Warframe for a year in the first place. It does seem that Destiny feel like a grind which is something I never really experience in Warframe. I mean in Warframe you did do grind for weapons but I dont' think it was anywhere that bad. It was fun playing with other people and my friends but back then my friends didn't play Warframe.

I left Warframe because I accomplished everything. I had all the frame, all weapon max out, and I had most of the color palette and all the accessory (make up) I wanted. So since me and my guild mate completed everything, the game became stale and there wasn't any new content for us to do anymore. I came back but most of my guilds was empty so it took a while to find another guild. Eventually Warframe became so much fun again because they added in like 50% more weapon and the new Archwing mode and finally realize PVP. Of course Warframe PVP I find is boring compare to Destiny with it first person PVP.

So maybe the two game are not really a like. We both left our respective game but for different reason unlike what I initially thought. Destiny definitely feel more like a special type of MMO than Warframe. I wouldn't even consider Warframe to be an MMO. It feel more like a third person ninja game. It good to know that it has to do with loot and not game play. Loot is easy to fix. Diablo 3 Reaper of Soul is proof of that.

Since the two games do seem different enough, I think I'll give it a try once I get a console and buy Taken King.

Still not sure it's worth returning to for me. Don't get me wrong I've thought about it but getting frustrated with the game (and I didn't own the game any longer when Xur sold Gjallarhorn so I don't have it) doesn't appeal to me. The other thing is the regular group of people I had on my friend list who played the same times as me aren't playing anymore either that I've noticed. A lot of them seem to have moved on to ESO

Good news is that ghorn isn't being updated for 2.0 so not having it isn't an issue in 2 weeks

Which is idiotic, in my opinion. At least, basing how Bungie decides to handle Xur and the best in game weapon drops. Our had Ghally I think twice. Once before it was known it was great, at the very start of Destiny and just recently when it is going to be terrible in a few weeks. So, we get a year of the "haves and the have nots". It is ridiculous for a game with such limited content. Sure, I get everyone doesn't have a Mythoclast, but that was supposed to be a hard mode reward. Ghally wasn't. And it quickly became "have max ghally and IB" got you in groups and not having those meant a long wait.

When I played daily last year I never saw that issue. I assume it became an issue after crotas end came out?

Hezen vengeance did nearly the same amount of damage

Yeah it was an issue for crota because of the strategies for the fight. You could get away with using a Hunger but some people still requested GHorn only. You had limited time to burn him down once you grab the sword so GHorn was very useful.

Also have you read up on the leveling changes? Like I'm only 32 so if I do decide to hop back in do I have to farm gear or what? Also I heard that all our old weapons are going to be junk? Have to get all new stuff?

The leveling will be XP based, so you'd likely find better weapons as you leveled. I would think if you have 32 weapons, you will be find for leveling until you hit in the 34+ range, and you should be finding weapons better by then anyway.

I just can't come back. I know there is a huge pile of disappointment behind all these promises. People will be complaining about the shallow content within 24 hours of launch.
