Got lucky when my cryptarch hit level 7 with a purple helmet engram that actually decoded into a real legendary. Maybe I can hit level 27 without ascendant shards now. I'm finding those to be a real bitch to get my hands on. I haven't gotten any from public events. The Daily heroic didn't give me one either. I'm down to playing a bunch of matches in the crucible for them now. I hear you can get them in the raid too, but I'm still having no luck getting a team together for that.

The writing is terrible. They could put the best voice actor ever but he'd sound horrible because of how bad the dialogue is written.

Yep, this is pretty much it. The lore may have depth, but the story telling is pretty awful.

Well I don't have a problem with the way its written. It is one of those things I am not all that upset about.

I got a shard from an engram once or twice. I ended up having to buy my third legendary piece. Now I have the legs, body, and gauntlets. My cryptarch rank is almost up to 9 now.

Nope, takes about 11-15 hours to hit level 20. But it took me twice that again to hit level 25. I have about 34 hours total and just hit 25 today.

But since endgame leveling is so loot dependant, somewhat difficult to gauge how long that will take.

Yeah I have seen where some people get to 24 in a day from 20, just because they got a purple and a full set of blue gear. Others are stuck around 22-23. I just hit 26 but that's because I used my vanguard marks to buy gear. I haven't had luck getting armor drops from engrams. In fact I still have a level 19 helmet that I just can't get a better version of yet.

Been playing for a few hours now and hit level 8. So far things I am noticing.

1. Getting into a fireteam is more difficult than I realized. I am always with level 20 and above people that are just farming the respawns. Only twice have i encountered a person close to me in level.

2. Crucible matches are not exactly even. Me going against a level 20 person is basically suicide. To combat that I just sit in turrets and snipe most of the time. Crucible is a little boring anyway. Have not been blown away. COD and halo are way better in that department.

3. Having a lot of fun looting and playing the story. Only wish is that I would have fire teams. Most of the time I am going through things myself.

Glad I picked it up for 30. However at 60 I think I would have been disappointed.

Eh, crucible is not really item or level dependant. Level 20 or level 5, you will get killed by either one just as quickly if they know the maps and use their radar.

Yeah the only advantage I can see is that the higher level players will have unlocked more class abilities. I wonder if the passive abilities that upgrade toughness, agility, and recovery still apply in crucible. That could be a real advantage over low level players as well.

I guess some of the classes must have shields then. it looked like only the level 20 guys had shield that had to be broken before getting to their health. I am playing as a titan. There were some people that I would be laying into and barely scratch them.

The game does not do a great tutorial.

I think various class abilities can convey shields. I know that Warlocks have the flame shield ability under the sunsinger class. Titans have the dome shaped shield that also conveys a personal shield when the player steps out of it's protection. I don't know what hunters have.

I dont think they upgrade so much as augment where you points are spent. You boost armor, your agility and recovery go down, boost agility and armor but then your recovery goes down. I dont think there is an actual stat boost per se.

So you are given 10 points, a higher level player would be able to augment how those points are spent better than a lower level, but at the end of the day you still get 10 points to distribute.

I could be mistaken as I don't really play crucible, but that was my impression.

I think he's referring to the standard shield you have as a character that enemies have to break down before your health is exposed.

But he also might not have been aware of the shield powers and got them confused. For titans, for example, the defender skill tree doesn't unlock until level 15.

Damage in crucible is normalized, so everyone takes the same amount for each weapon, IIRC. The only advantage higher levels have are access to more skills / better weapons. Weapons that reload faster, for example, or regenerate ammo and such.

I'm a hunter and still trying to figure that out. Think I'll probably start a new character, not terribly fond of the hunter class.

I think hunter ends up the best end game. But, they really need to buff gunslinger, as the golden gun sucks. When you have a sniper rifle that hits harder and regenerates ammo, there is no reason to use gunslinger...

I really like warlock and I played a titan in beta and enjoyed that too. I am not familiar with hunter all that much, but I did a level 24 strike with two people and the second one happened to be a hunter and whatever he was doing was kick ass cause his survivability was incredible.

I played Hunter in the alpha and beta and I was ok with him but I absolutely hated the golden gun even though it does a lot of damage.

Some of the blade dancer traits are amazing for getting out of situations. You can get like 3 or 4 skills that make you invisible. You can also have a skill that your super heals you as you hit enemies, which is really nice when you charge into a pile and start taking them out.

Everytime I create a fire team I can nvever chat with anyone on the team. I can hear them talking but they can't hear me.

Is there something in the kinect options or privacy setting for me to communicate. I tested the kinect mic on skype and it is working normally.

Anyone run into this?

Yeah, sometimes the game does this. Best thing to do if you can is create a party on XBL or PSN and use that.

I probably need to unlock those still. I switched to blade dancer as soon as I could, I wasn't digging gunslinger. Right now I die pretty frequently, especially during waves of enemies in boss fights where you suddenly find yourself surrounded.

Maybe that's because he is so well known. You put a face with the voice. Other VAs don't really have the same impression upon hearing them. At least to me anyway.

There's a bit in the documentary "I Know That Voice" (about voice actors) where Matt Groening talks about how he hates celebrity guests because they usually suck at voice acting, so the writer has to work to make the character fit the voice, rather than ask the celebrity to make a voice that fits the character. That kind of feels like what they did with the Ghost. They just told Dinklage, "Hey, read these lines from this page." Which he did, and added no flavor to the Ghost character.

Going with Dinklage is also galling when you have super competent voice actors buried in bit roles in the game. John DiMaggio in a bit role? We could've had Bender as the Ghost!

Granted, the writing for Ghost is also terrible, but this is a case of both bad writing and uninspired voice acting.

My only complaint with the voice acting is that Dinklege is so recognizable. I always think "Oh, great. Tyrion Robannister is about to tell me something." Had they thrown in some kind of subtle humor referencing that, I'd be much more inclined to like him. Something like one of the characters referring him to as some sort of imp on your shoulder. Look at the other greatly voiced characters in games: they aren't well know people. David Hayter is Solid Snake. He's been in movies? Who cares? Or Cortana. I don't even know her real name, she is Cortana.

Jen Taylor. And she's in Destiny. (Possible spoilers.)

The Ghost really had some of the most cringe worthy lines I've heard in a game in a long time.
