ok so just a FYI: You get two ascendent shards when you dismantle a legendary piece of armor. I had two gauntlets, one was upgraded so I dismantled the other. My cryptarch rank went up to 9 now and I ended up with a legendary auto rifle and a legendary pulse rifle.

Got enough coins for exotic weapon from xur tomorrow. Dunno if I will just go an exotic armor instead for 11 coins. Have to see what weapon and armor is there and pick.

I'm heading right to Xur to see what he has. If no good weapon then I'll get a armor piece most likely. I really only want a primary exotic weapon(scout or auto rifle but I'm hoping for auto rifle). I have legendaries of everything else. Then I'll do all the bounties I have and turn them in all at once.

I have yet to find a legendary. I had one cryptarch thing and it gave me an ascended shard...

I spent like 2 and a half hours farming the 'loot cave' and didn't get one either. My luck in games is just bad. =(

It took me a long time to get one too. I think I was level 24 by the time I saw one drop. Strangely enough, once I saw the first one I seemed to start getting them more often. Since then I've gotten one or two almost every day. I kept seeing people around the internet say that higher level characters end up getting more frequent rare and legendary drops. I didn't really believe that then, but it does seem to be what has happened to me. Maybe you should focus on getting a full set of fully upgraded level 20 rare armor first. That would get enough light to get to level 24 I think, which would be enough to do the level 24 strike missions without dying every couple of minutes. Use the vanguard from those to buy some legendary armor, further increasing your light level. I'm not 100% sure that even makes a difference, but sure seemed to in my case.

Just turned level 20 last night and got a legendary engram from the crucible. Cryptarch turned it blue, the cheap bastard.

So what am I supposed to do with all these items I've picked up along the way? Is there a crafting system I'm not aware of? I have a couple/few ascendant shards as well. No idea what they're for.

I don't have sunsinger leveled enough but I may buy them anyway myself. The other two bonuses are good.

Most of those materials are needed eventually to upgrade higher level armor. When you start getting blue armor you'll need some of them to upgrade it. When you move on to legendary armor you'll need more of it plus some ascendant shards in order to get all the upgrades. You might as well start doing whatever you can to get ascendant shards now, because you're going to need a lot of it eventually and it's pretty hard to come by. The last three armor upgrades for legendary armor all require 6 ascendant shards each. So that's 72 ascendant shards total across 4 pieces of armor.

Some kinds of materials can be traded to the vanguard quartermaster for vanguard marks and reputation. Because of that, once I maxed my vanguard marks for this week I started doing chest runs for spinmetal in old russia to kind of get a jump start on next week's vanguard marks. It's a neat way to keep earning marks even when the game technically won't allow you to earn more marks. Hopefully I can get enough to immediately be able to purchase a couple of pieces of legendary armor next week, which I'll just disassemble for 2 ascendant shards each.

I think I'm going to spend motes on the exotic chest engram he's got first. There's nothing else in the game I care to spend them on after all. If it decodes into an exotic chest piece that'll be all the shopping I do this weekend. It not I'll probably go for the gauntlets too.

The loot cave sucks IMO. If its the one on earth I am thinking of. Best way I have found to actually farm is Venus and mars. A couple areas with chest spawns and lots of enemies that keep coming. Also some materials to gather as you move around the area.

I farm for them when I need to. Legendary weapons and armor take forever to level up. I did max out my body armor though. Need more ascendent shards and a couple energies (for weapons).

If you aren't going to use the item then dismantle it. This will give you parts for armor and weapon upgrades and some glimmer. Rare and legendary gear requires materials as well as glimmer to upgrade them. Legendary and exotic gear at one upgrade tier starts requiring ascendent items to upgrade. You need ascendent shards for armor and energy for weapons in addition to parts and glimmer. You will need a lot to max out something.

That is correct, if you take your cursor and when you are on your item screen it says "level 20" it should come up with a popup screen telling you about how your XP is going towards motes of light and it should have blue progress bar showing you how close you are to your next mote of light.

XP will only go towards that blue bar, it no longer will effect level.

When you hit 20 and look at your character in the menu you also have a light level on the right side. This, when highlighted will tell you how close you are to the next light level. If you hover the curser over your player level (20) you will see the progress to earn a mote of light. Motes of light are earned from XP in usual ways. Light level is only acquired from better armor.



Apparently Xur isn't taking material exchanges anymore? People said this morning he would exchange glimmer or materials for a coin but one guy said he never got to see xur until just now and the option was gone. Anyone confirm? If they remove it that quickly it is serious BS cause many of us are at work when he finally shows up.

I am almost 22 with quite a few hours above 18 (the level required to find legendaries, I believe).

One of my friends showed me a spot where enemies spawn and it is an easy way to get xp and other things. We set there for 10-15 minutes killing them non stop, I imagine this will be patched pretty quick. There was several random people there doing the sdame thing
