It's MUCH easier to do the missions when you are on level, or 1 level above recommended level. I was just rushing through all the story missions and did a few of them 1 or 2 levels too low, and while they aren't impossible, they are much more difficult.

I think in beta I was always 1 level under but was still able to slowly continue on. It's hard to compare since I switched to a hunter from a warlock. Figured since I tried the other two classes, I'd give hunter a go.

The one thing I appreciate is that while I'm replay content, it doesn't drag on. Anyways, got my hour in tonight and will probably have time later this week.

Ugh, stuck in Detroit until this weekend. Can't wait to raid Gamestop and start this up.
I'm jealous of all of you.

Is there any reason to do anything with weapons/armor other than just dismantle them on the spot as soon as they become irrelevant?

EDIT: Also, the shielded Captains early in the game seem a lot tougher than beta. I get a bit of an adrenaline rush when I encounter one. Luckily I know where the golden chests are and one gives (or at least gave me) a rocket launcher before you get to it in the story, those rockets will take a full shield/health captain down in one hit.

You can save them in the vault and use them on another class you level.

Note about gold chests. They scale to your level. Meaning the loot you find will be something you can use around your level. Opening them all at low level is not as beneficial. Save a few for when you level up more.

Another question, has Bungie temporarily turned off the random players in the zones? I'm at level 4 now and haven't seen a single other person in the tower or in Old Russia since I started.

Finally got to level 7 and finished up some of the story up to mission 5. I bought a vanguard armory auto rifle that does 60 damage. My friend is level 15 and he helped me get leveled up too. I don't think I would have been able to do missions 4 or 5 on my own as a level 5. I did end up dying a few times around the knights.

I managed to do one of the bounties where you have to collect 200 mites or some type of things that drop when you kill enemies.

Some of the story missions have large waves of enemies that I think would be tough to beat by one person alone. Considering the gear is limited this time to your level not like it was in the beta, I had a hard time getting good items and weapons.

My friend got way much better gear from finishing missions with me than I did. So the higher level you are the better rewards...I think he got an auto rifle that does 132 damage.

Well I'm doing the missions on hard and I'm usually one or two levels below the stated level. For example, I did the sword of crota mission on the moon at level 9 (EPIC mission ) and dinged 10 by finishing it.

Unfortunately, the AI is dumb as bricks at longer range. Close range they're fine (running around, flanking, covering, changing position), but as soon as you get some distance, they just stand around... Also, there are borders on each encounter which cause the enemies to run back... It's soooo easy to exploit this, no matter how hard the encounter is...

No, but it is very random. You won't always see people. I dunno how exactly it works but it was like that for me a couple of times. Oh and hitting weak points(head shots) will eat through shields quicker too.

I am just doing the story missions on normal and will go back through on hard later. Loot scales to your level so when you go back to a strike or something even when it is below your level, the loot you get will be something you can use at your level. The harder difficulty will have better loot though. You'll get a better chance at rares and legendary stuff the harder you set it.

They have definitely tuned the drop rates. I see way fewer encrypted engram's and I have not received any rare items yet. In the beta by the time I hit 8 I had a couple pieces of rare loot. This time I get a lot of common stuff. This is definitely going to make me rerun missions on harder difficulty as time goes on. I hit level 10 and got a couple decent weapons (still looking for a good scout rifle but I use whatever I have access to that is good). I find I am not so set on gear this time because by the time I level up a couple levels I find a few pieces that will replace what I am using. Gear is being cycled through quickly this time for me, where as before in the beta I was finding the best stuff for my levels more easily and wasn't always swapping. Obviously this will change at 20. I think today I am going to attempt to run through more story since I did hit 10.

Got about 2 hours in last night. Up to level 5 on my Warlock! Finished two bounties that brought me from 4.3ish to 5.5ish and got some of the lv5 Vanguard equip (pulse rifle + helmet).

How do you get those speedbike looking things?

Yea I didn't get to play much either due to work. My friend got it at midnight and played it all night until 7am because he is nuts and he's level 15. He works night shifts so he has more time to play than me.

Once you get higher level the engram drops are more common. Decoherent engrams are really the only ones to be concerned about, encrypted engrams usually just get turned into glimmer as you usually will have better gear anyway.

Also, got my character to full blue gear today, working on purchasing my first legendary piece probably next week.

To those that are playing .... is this a must buy or what?

Have you played the beta or alpha? I would say it's very fun although I did get washed out because I played too much of the alpha and beta. I'm still early level so I haven't been able to go to other planets yet.

If you like exploring, building your character, finding weapons, completing challenges, then you will enjoy it. I don't really use the term must buy when it comes to games anymore unless it's something I've been familiar with and I've been waiting to continue to play it.

Should you buy it? Yes because it will keep you occupied for a long time. I kind of wish I didn't play too much of the alpha or beta now haha.

Saw on NeoGAF where another X1 user had this same issue. He found it was due to him leaving the game suspended in the background while doing other stuff, then coming back. This is what I typically do, as I'll switch over to TV and come back hours/days later to my game. He found that if he closed the game completely and went back in, people were now populating in.

I'm not sure if this is a one-time bug or if it will continue to happen.

My buddy says he just unlocked level 16 and this gives you legendary strike missions. He tried for 2 hours and still could not beat it.

I have been doing level 22 strikes, lots of good loot right now, gotten 30 vanguard marks from them too.

Currently level 21, just need to find a better light item to get to level 22.

Damn i had no idea Bungie wa originally planning Destiny to be a fantasy open world rpg, this would have been way better!

Also, bungie really does FPS's well, I don't think they would have gone through with a fantasy setting.

Though the one mission so far in Destiny where you get to use a sword is pretty cool

So without knowing much at all about Destiny other than it being an open-world multiplayer shooter, I went ahead and downloaded the 360 version. With the deal to upgrade for free to the Xbox One version, I figured what the heck, I'll get a One someday, that's kind of a deal. Sorta.

Seems alright so far, definitely has a Borderlands feel to it which is good, as I'm a huge Borderlands fan. It's not as fast paced and hectic as Borderlands. Also there's not nearly the loot that Borderlands has. But I'm only level 8, either of those things could change.

I sorta like the random multiplayer drop-in aspect, although I haven't found a whole lot of teamwork happening with random matchups so far. Everyone seems to have their own agenda and so I've found myself going at it alone anyway.

Given the hype surrounding the game I guess I'm a little underwhelmed, but it's fun so far. I'll keep playing and see what happens.
