Thinking about that just now and matchmaking for raids probably wouldn't work because of the checkpoint system. When you pass a boss you get a checkpoint for that section and there would be no way to communicate that you are starting at a checkpoint or enter at that specific checkpoint if you just did matchmaking.
When you get a group from destinylfg or somewhere else and they are good players, add them as friends so you can see when they are online. Maybe hook up for another run sometime. I have probably 60 people on my list from this.

It wouldn't be hard. Player listed what they are wanting to run (w/checkpoint) and clicks find group. It matches them with others who are running the same thing. Pretty standard matchmaking logic like COD with their game modes. DestinyLFG.com works the same way.

That is not how matchmaking works in this game. Matchmaking starts a strike or crucible match and pairs you with other players who are also looking for the same event.
You could not do that while at the same time making sure everyone joining is ok with starting at a checkpoint. Not with how the matchmaking in Destiny actually functions. I know if I hadn't done the bridge or deathsinger yet I'd be pissed if we start right at crota with no warning.
Thankfully Destiny's raid system isn't like how WoW did theirs (I stopped at WotLK, so don't know how it's changed since then) where you get locked into a Raid ID and if you joined that ID in the middle of it and missed stuff, you were SOL from getting stuff on bosses they down already.
With Destiny, even if you join a raid group and they start at Crota, you can always go back and do the other parts and still get loot.
I sure do miss the WotLK days.
But what if I want to go all the way through? I want to know ahead of time that the group is going to do the parts I want. Maybe that's just me.
No not that. I'm just trying to validate the point I made before about the checkpoint system not really working out with the way matchmaking is designed for the game. They would need a whole new system which maybe they will do for part 2, I dunno.
There is no matchmaking logic at all, which is why they have different level vanguard strikes so they don't have to implement logic to match people by level, they just have a minimum level to enter the "mode", and they limit the # of people in a fireteam to a max of 3 for strikes, 6 for raids, 20 for tower, whatever it is for crucible.
I see what you're saying though, checkpoint matchmaking would be different because you need a full team so you can start at the same time whereas the other modes you can be put into a game already in progress.

Sure, but the term "enjoy" should be applied extremely loosely. For this to be a decent single player game, it'd need a complete overhaul of its non existent storytelling. Most people play because their friends play, and because the guns are fun.Can this game be enjoyed only for it's singleplayer? (I know it's made to play multi though...)

Since the patch, D3 has been a blast. I think it's time for a seasonal character. Too bad not too many of my friends still play it.
