I do t mind getting a gun but don't give me coins, especially less coins than the weekly is worth. Ascendent materials as a reward when I had 250 of them each is pathetic too.

The worst is ascendant shards. I'll take energy I guess, even though I have 200+, but shard after shard makes you not want to bother. Seems HoW is almost all PVP focused. Meh.

Honestly, the only thing that doesn't need improvement in my eyes is the engine / shooting mechanics.

No, I would still play if the loot table was in any way tied to the type of event you completed. Nightfall should never ever have worse reward than the weekly.

I was locked in due to the special edition I got...don't care. I got my time out of it so I can't say I am totally disappointed or it wasn't worth it at all.

I recently tried out Destiny, on it's trial demo thinger....

Gotta say, terrible first impressions here. Reviewers praised the gunplay, but my thoughts were that the guns felt OK, but seemed unbalanced, and the enemy AI was TERRIBLE. "Difficult" mobs were just bullet sponges that just wiggle around in a small area, and didn't pursue me at all when I dropped back into cover.

Graphics felt unimpressive... but that's probably since I was playing Bloodborne too much recently. Going from ground textures with tessellation, back to ground textures with simple bump mapping, for example, is pretty noticeable. Some of the plant meshes and such were pretty weak, but I think I'd still be a little unfair if I said the game looked "bad". But, it looked like "remastered" "last gen" game, for sure.

Voice acting and plot stuff has been absolutely horrible. Peter Dinklage's entire performance should be pulled, and redone, IMHO. Why won't anyone tell my character who's supposedly been dead for a long time, what the hell is happening?

Anyway, it was pretty bland and all, but the real kicker was right from the start of the game I was running into level 24-30 players camping the low level zones. So here I am, level 3 or something, unable to shoot any mobs in my zone because a 3 person group of 27ish people were farming them for some reason. I was like, WTF? And went online to search about it, and apparently the game's loot tables are so messed up that these players are doing this because the drops on the higher level content are no better than the drops on the level 4 dregs and such.

Whenever a saw another player, they were almost always like 20 levels higher than me, and the whole experience left me feeling.... sorta angry about it. I mean, here these high level players are, killing all my stuff, and I can't even talk to them... since there's no easy in game way to do so.

Anyway, I went temped on the $30 sales going around on this game, but after playing it... Probably not.

Agreed. I hate the AI in Destiny. And many of the sections which are supposed to be "hard" are when you get swarmed and have a bunch of targets to deal with.

Graphics felt unimpressive... but that's probably since I was playing Bloodborne too much recently. Going from ground textures with tessellation, back to ground textures with simple bump mapping, for example, is pretty noticeable. lol Disagree. You've picked one feature it doesn't have and said the game looks last gen. Environment textures in destiny look amazing.

Voice acting and plot stuff has been absolutely horrible. Peter Dinklage's entire performance should be pulled, and redone, IMHO. Why won't anyone tell my character who's supposedly been dead for a long time, what the hell is happening?

Ehh, I thought the voice acting was pretty awesome (except for Dinklebot, which is awful). I also agree that the story and plot line made zero fucking sense.

The microphone situation in Destiny is totally retarded. Bungie even had proximity based chat system in one of the previous halo games. I was wondering if maybe MS owned the IP on that engine so they couldn't use it without developing something else.

Heh...so they made all your work worthless again. Commendations are no longer a thing...yet we had to slave away to get them previously because they were required.

They still have no clue what they want to do with gear. Either they let you keep using the same stuff forever, or they make you drop it all. They can't decide and it's hilarious.

I didn't say it looks "last gen" I said it looks "remastered last gen". If you look at games like Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, The Last of Us Remastered, and GTA5 PS4, you'll see I'm not slamming Destiny that badly with the statement.

The Environmental textures were, alright, I guess. Apparently ambient occlusion was used, but they still seemed flat to me. Smaller plants, like grass and bushes looked lower quality than in other recent games.

If Tomb Raider DE can run at 45-60 FPS on the PS4, then it's hard for me to understand how Destiny is locked at 30 FPS with a comparable level of graphic quality.... which leads me to believe that it might have been possible to adjust Destiny a little to run at 60 FPS on PS4, but Bungie chose not to deliberately, for "parity" purposes.

Tomb raider is not online with all the mmo style gameplay. Maybe that's all they could do with this engine. I am just speculating. They obviously wanted to do more than they did with the game though. Many developer interviews say as much.

I was curious, so I did a few searches and found this quote from Jason Sussman at Bungie:

"We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience,”

Note the "the same experience" were used twice in this short quote. The context in which it was said, was to reply to a question on why the game wasn't 60 FPS on the XBO and PS4. Seems pretty much a closed and shut case of "parity" performance nerfing to me.

Note the emphasis on "the same experience" in this quote, which was addressing why the game wasn't 60 FPS on the XBO and PS4.

Probably more on the gameplay and things they do on that end to reuse the same engine. You can build an engine that scales between platforms. Battlefield is an example of that. There was a big split at bungie and I don't think they released what they wanted to release in any form. They had contractual obligations with activision.

Yes, it would make sense to keep gameplay the same between versions, and yes you can make an engine scale, but you're not understanding me here. This was the quote the guy gave when asked why the game wasn't running at 60 FPS on the XBO and PS4.

http://venturebeat.com/2014/06/15/how-bungie-came-up-with-the-unique-look-of-destiny-interview/

GamesBeat: Does the complexity of the art have something to do with that, or is it something else that means you have to target 30 versus 60?

Sussman: It’s a lot of different things. I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience.
