The leveling will be XP based, so you'd likely find better weapons as you leveled. I would think if you have 32 weapons, you will be find for leveling until you hit in the 34+ range, and you should be finding weapons better by then anyway.

So light levels are gone.

I read a bit about some of the changes and they sound good. Especially streamlining the marks for purchasing legendaries. Seems like I'll be able to catch up by buying some new stuff from venders and getting xp to level up.

As Rage187 said the limited content might be a problem, but I was more worried about being terribly behind the curve with gear. Seems that with the Taken King, everything from year one is locked and we will all be buying new stuff and trying to get the new drops anyway. So a few of my items might be underpowered to begin with but it should be enough to get me through some bounties to get the legendary marks. Once I hit 40 and have the legendary stuff from venders (I assume that the new legendaries on venders will be higher tier than old stuff), it shouldn't really be a problem to start going events that reward better legendaries and exotic stuff.

I'll give it some thought, don't have much to play lately (MGS V on tuesday though). It's sounding like the changes are for the better though.

yea the year 1 stuff is staying year 1 for the most part. some exotics are being updated for year 2. you need to have them in your inventory/storage when the patch comes out to make sure you get the blueprint for the new version

the changes they are making should make it easier to jump in at any time. its basically a reset at this point so people wont be super behind. leveling not tied to RNG and weps should be more plentiful

i was lvl 30 when i came back 2 weeks ago, im almost 33 now and would be 34 if it wernt for the fact that im currently on vacation

So I started playing again. Ascended all my exotics and nightfall gave me an etheric light which brought me to 33. Tried prison of elders lv34 and I felt so weak there lol. Almost like I couldn't do any damage and got destroyed so fast by enemies. We didn't win against the cabal boss. I did lv28 as part of the storyline and ended up with a red death out of the chest.

Anyway I'm looking forward to the changes because I would rather have my level tied to my experience and hunt better gear as I go than to hunt down specific items and armor to attain a certain level. I think having levels tied to gear creates a wall both before you max out and after. Less incentive to play. If you can get high level through exp there is an incentive to hunt better stuff then I think. At least for me. I know before I would play and play to get to 30 or 32 and once there I was kind of done. I think I would not feel I hit a wall if I leveled off of xp because I don't have the top gear yet where as before you needed top gear to cap your level.

@cmdrdredd If you're on Xbox, I can help you out for PoE. PM me if you're on Xbox One. I've been playing Iron Banner, but haven't been doing well at all lol.

I'm a level 9 Warlock right now. Just started the game a month ago when I bought a Xbox One. Did not play that much as you can see.

A friend of mine is level 34 I think and offered me to "powerlevel" me through the story line on harder difficulty so we can grind together soon.

Is it a good idea? Will I miss content, story punch or anything important? I like to follow the story of a game first so I can better understand what i'm doing and why and just appreciate it, but passively following someone through a story mode feels a bit weird.

I could start a new character but don't really feel like starting from scratch again...

Do it. You'll be playing those same story missions over and over again when you hit max level (strikes, dailies, etc). Besides, you won't be missing out on any content. All he's offering is to help you play those missions but at a harder difficulty which will give you extra XP in the end.

The only caveat for that is after the first so many missions you will be too low to select hard on the next ones. So your have to just go through on normal or level up a bit on the side.

Yep I try to do them every time I log and they help a lot.

I'm just not used to playing FPS, especially not online ones, on a console. The controls are the major thing that take away some of the immersion...but i'm getting used to it, plus I really like the atmosphere in this game. Cool maps, ok story, nice character customization, overall really fun shooter.

The game really gets better once you can start doing the higher level activities like the Weekly strikes, Nightfall, raids etc.

It's still woefully light on content overall but you'll definitely keep busy if you like the game at all.

Look into a XIM 4. It will allow you to play Destiny and other console shooters with a keyboard and mouse of your choice. Their compatibility list is pretty massive so you probably won't have any problems.

Everything I've read about them is their actual usage is pretty bad simply due to the way the analog sticks are actually implemented in the consoles.

I thought I saw you on a couple days ago, if you need help with POE and i'm on just shoot me a message.

Yeah I was online. I forget a lot of people's PSN name from AT, what's your PSN so I can remember. I'd definitely like to get through 32 and 34 this week if I can. Gonna do nightfall runs this evening.

Watched the court of oryx reveal yesterday. Seems like it'll be fun for like... 2 days, like poe.

Raid opens up on the 18th. I'll have all three toons ready to get merced by then.

Well, they said Tier 2 of Court will be about on par with Nightfall difficulty and the next one up is harder than that with multiple bosses at once. So it should last a while based on difficulty alone. The rewards are supposed to be worth it too. Have to see I guess.

I'm most interested to see what they do with light now and how that factors in to your damage and defense. They said light is still a factor but nobody knows how it will work now since it doesn't count toward your character's level.

Yeah I saw some of that but I'm more wondering how that factors in with weapon damage. Also wondering if you will be able to purchase some gear to get more light or if you need to do new events to get anything higher than what we have available at lv34.

Found an excellent explanation from Bungie here. They tell you your cooldowns for intellect, discipline and strength now in the menu. Appears that your Light level is an average of all your gear including your ghost(which also add stats like strength or intellect as well as specific perks) and equipped class item(both matter now).
