I have a friend who is already 260
banked a ton of crypatch and re bonus items as well as pup event things in the mail
parked all his reps just shy of leveling and got legendary from the packages
you can go 34-40 nearly instantly with bounties + banked things
Question for anyone out there:
I'm a day 1 destiny player that hasn't played destiny since the day the first expansion was released. I'm all in with the taken king now and is it worth playing through with a new character or am I still just going to end up replaying the entire storyline anyway through bounties and nightfalls and stuff? I've got a level 29 Hunter, 25 Defender and wondering if I should play through as a warlock or just use the light thing to level him to level 25 instantly.
a far from impossible, I have 283 light - and that's about 10 lower than the turbo nerd average
heres the order of operations
1) do the quests that give 20-25 legendary marks; like the "set up patrol beacons on the ship" one, there's I believe 3 of these you get right off the bat
2) daily pvp/story - 30 marks
3) if you are less than 250 light, do pvp and get 250-270 light weapons and armor, played like 5 games for shits to test out the hammer and got tons of gear like that
4) at 250, do heroics, 3 guaranteed purple engrams and 30 marks and possibly more purples from random drops (i found none, friend got 2) there is also a quest tied into this that will give you a 280 weapon as reward with 20 legendary marks
5) you should be able to buy a pair of boots/legs/chest from a vendor
6) with good rng you should have another 75 to spare, buy a ghost shell
7) 2 manned nightfall with a friend at 270 light, got a 290 purple helmet - there is also a quest that rewards a 300 attack fusion rifle or shotgun along with another 25 marks
I played for about 8 hours from 2am-10am and 7 pm to 2 am today; so that's about 15 hours to be raid ready - spread out across 3-4 days this is perfectly reasonable. Don't forget that it doesn't have to be a purple, I have blues that are 280+ light
raid will probably have to be pushed back to saturday to give people an extra night which is fine, I might tag along with some other friends for the first couple bosses but either way going to do the whole thing at some point with SF bros.
THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS TO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH "OH HEY LEtS GO EXPLORE THE DREADNAUGHT FOR SECRETS GAIS" court of oryx is fine IF YOU HAVE AT LEAST THREE FUCKING SEALS to get the better rewards. make sure you bring at least 1 other person who has a mic and a fucking brain otherwise pub shitlords will just not do the fight correctly and run the timer out
As for exotics melb, they are super cost inefficient in terms of getting your light up. There's also literally zero good year 1 weapons for PvE, if you find yourself close to 280 and have a primary weapon you don't like aim for the scout rifle from dead orbit (vision of confluence clone) or the handcannon from fwc (basically a fatebringer) though I would not recommend HCs for pve right now, the first random purple I found was a HC and it felt like I had to present myself to 50 pissed off taken to even have a chance to land headshots with their fucking awful cof
I need to know what quests give marks for sure. That will help tremendously. Though like Anubis said to me it might be worth waiting to see what xur is selling before burning marks on other stuff from venders. Just in case there is a 280 item he has that can compliment your set.
I really don't like pvp but it seems like that's my best bet to get some starter stuff to bring me up to 250 so I can start doing strikes. I am simply unable to grind all day. I gotta work lol.
If you buy the $60 edition you should get an item called spark of light that brings you to level 25 instantly once you get past the opening sequence of the game and get to the tower. You can then skip everything up to the taken King. It will even give you some starter gear for level 25 as well I hear.
So it sounds like vanilla will still be the same and available to play through if I wanted. Is it worth it? Would I miss out on any fundamental game dynamics that I couldn't pick up just by leveling up to 25 instantly and starting from there?
Guys, I have a stupid question. I don't have the game but I want to get it after hearing about how its content is much better now after The Taken King has come out. My question is: do I have to play through a bunch of awful content before I get to good content or will all the content be good from the start? Ie - is the new content only available in expansion areas and I still have to complete everything in the base game first and those missions/quests are still the same as when the game first came out.
So do your gunsmith things, I hit rank 2 this morning, dude gave me a 260 damage scout rifle also once you get rank 1 you get armor orders or some crap that give you free weapons ever week, I have one of each type that I can redeem next week for free purples,
also this has been confirmed - when opening engrams have the gear that gives you THE MOST LIGHT equipped and open engrams 1 at a time, check each one to see if its better, if it is equip it and then open another engram
the level of the item you get from the engram is dependent on the level of light you currently have
So, since launch, I think I've put at least 40 hours of playtime in. I'm not even kidding. I've been snared by TTK. It's everything I've always wanted Destiny to be. (sidebar - Echo of Oryx is an asshole)
A few tips to get as much light before tomorrow's Raid release as possible.
That's all I've got at 5am, but I'll update this later if this thread gains traction.
- Quests give a lot of great rewards, including legendaries and marks. Keep after those quests, you'll get given great gear for just doing content.
- Don't be afraid to keep blue items. They may not have as good of perks, and don't have the stat boosts or boost perks that legendaries have, but don't shy away from them. Light is the most important thing this week. Get yourself up there.
- Regardless of what gear you typically use, MAKE SURE you're equipping your highest light gear possible when turning in engrams or completing quests. Ratings on the gear you receive (from engrams for sure, quests I'm not certain) is based on your current light level. Sure, you're going to get junk too, but every so often you get a gem. I've seen blue gear as high as 296.
- Early on, if you find a blue that has higher light than the legendary you're using, unless it's a weapon or armor piece you're ABSOLUTELY attached to, don't infuse and waste marks, swap out for the blue and dismantle for the marks. If you have motes, use them to level the gear first. You get 5 marks instead of 3 for a fully leveled legendary. You don't have to upgrade it, just level it with experience. For those of us around through Y1, this is a familiar concept.
- Don't waste marks purchasing vendor gear right now. First, wait for Xur to show up. You don't know what he's going to have. Don't kick yourself in the teeth by wasting precious marks on something you're going to have to replace.
- Infusion, when you're capable of it marks wise, doesn't require armor for the same class, only a higher rating and of the same slot. Xur selling an exotic 290 helmet for Warlock and you play a Hunter lucky enough to have a 280 Legendary helmet? Have spare coins? Of course you do. Buy that mofo and infuse it into your legendary helmet. Or, buy that shit and save it for later. You're going to have it in your kiosk for later purchase as well, so don't worry. I think most of us are focusing on our main currently still anyway.
- Don't get too wrapped up in trying to force yourself into content that you're not leveled for. We all know how frustrating it is right now to try to get into Heroic and Nightfall strikes. There's no more Radiant Light buff from completing the Nightfall, so it's just straight rewards now. With that said, don't be afraid to try content either. Get yourself some friends together and just go slow. You can do it if you're patient and marginally well equipped.
just use them to upgrade the things you want, that's what ive been doing
up to 250 now
will be able to purchase 2 pieces of 280 gear today but im gonna wait for xur
