Well, I used the xp bonus from pre-order to start. Gave me 4 hours of +25% then I got some other bonus that gave me 3x for the first 3 days so I hit 20 pretty quick and I exploited the reputation venders. I've also had luck on gear drops. I just got Lunafaction Boots(warlock exotic) from a reputation vender
Damn I never used the XP bonus.

by far my worst session yet last night... just brutal. after completing the story I didn't really get much in the way of loot and I could barely make a dent trying to fight the tougher enemies in the nightfall strike. were there supposed to be other players helping or was I just not ready? the loadout I used to defeat Ghaul was decent but after getting to the traveler the guns I got were kind of awful; I didn't even make 270 power when I finally called it a night.

aside from my aim being a little off... it seemed like my weapons weren't very effective and I even tried a few regular strikes after and I was just a mess. timing was bad, couldn't seem to stay alive, kept falling off of edges, walking into traps etc. it was awful. I might have to take a little break but this last run was not very rewarding.

also, that sparrow you get from Amanda at the tower is crap. I got a much better one for leveling up and it rips. angel bloom or something?

Nightfall requires a fireteam of 3, you can't solo it. There is a time limit as well.

Oddly after the reset nothing was giving Clan XP for me. I don't know if something was wrong or whatever I was doing does not give xp. I'm trying to find a guide for this as it's a guaranteed luminous engram.

Yeah when you start it, the game is instanced and you won't see randoms. You need a team set up before you enter. There are modifiers that apply to the strike as well. Last week it swapped the elemental burn periodically where you would get increased damage if you use a weapon of the same damage type and killing enemies added time to the limit. This week jumping through vex gates adds time.

Pro Tip (I screwed up too most likely): Make sure the legendary or exotic item you dismantle doesn't have a +5 mod on it. If it does even if it's power is lower than what you have, put it on and infuse the higher one to it. The +5 mod will apply after you upgrade the piece. For example if you have a set of boots at 260 and get a set that is 256 but has a +5 on it and you infuse the 260 boots to it then you will have a 265 pair of boots because you will go to 260 and then the +5 applies on top. Weapons work the same way. It also applies the other way around. The +5 mod does not count when infusing. If you have a piece that is 260 power level but it has a +5 mod on it and you get a 258 do not dismantle it. The 260 piece is really 255+5 so the 258 will infuse to it in order to bring it to 258+5.

also found this in regards to gaining clan XP. I know why I wasn't gaining any xp this morning, public events only apply if you are in a fireteam.
  • Completing a story mission - 500XP
  • Completing Crucible games - 500XP (any mode, win or loss)
  • Completing a Patrol mission - 250XP
  • Completing an Adventure - 500XP
  • Completing a Public Event - 500XP (only if in a Fireteam)

Aha, I maxed out my weekly clan xp on Sunday and was wondering if why I wasn't getting any for public events as well.

Yeah when the server comes back online my goal is to grind adventures I haven't done, the meditations from ikora, and patrols to attempt to cap my xp. I hate PvP but they did tie a weekly luminous engram to doing crucible. Apparently you could lose 10 matches in a row and get credit for the engram. Progress does take into account your performance but if you do nearly nothing, it takes 10 matches to max the progress for the week. Fewer if you are winning and do well etc of course. I might have to bite the bullet and force myself to do it just for the rewards.

I only dislike it because I'm not into competitive gaming and always get the impression of no lifers destroying me in a match and more no lifers mad that I'm getting destroyed while on their team. One guy on another forum says he is good enough to kill at least one guy and when he does he runs to the other team so they kill him and force the match to end quickly just so he can claim rewards. People gave him crap for it and his response was classic "Don't blame me, I have no shame in this. Blame Bungie for forcing me to these tactics to get any gear. If they wouldn't reward you for simply participating and made you actually win I wouldn't have a reason to be there at all."

Btw grats on the nightfall We tried a few times with Rage187, last try we had like 7 minutes before the boss but the third guy got kicked out and couldn't login again, so we called it a night. Oh well, another week, another nightfall ;-)

Now I can't login... Queue, wait, error (servers not available), kick, login, queue, wait, error, kick, login, queue...

There is a server maintenance today that ends at 5PM Eastern. I don't know what time that is for you. It has been a 7 hour maintenance that was supposed to be 4.

For the nightfall I think we got fairly lucky once we knew what parts we could skip and which we could not. This week has a different time mechanic where hopping through vex portals gives you time. I heard it was easier because the boss is more squishy too.

I'm definitely finding this much easier to level up solo than I the first. I'm at around 250. Public events are a sure fire way to get decent gear easily.

Yes and doing your weekly clan xp gives a luminous engram, the weekly call to arms (crucible) and flashpoint (public events) give guaranteed luminous engrams too. These are always guaranteed to give legendary or exotic gear above your level that can help boost you up a bit.

yeah much better rounds tonight than the last time I played. I think I'm almost at 270 power and I have a couple of good exotic weapons and armor pieces. did a handful of strikes and public events and I did a much better job of securing objectives and not getting blasted to bits. it really helps if you are with a couple other good players too, obviously. still having a lot of fun with the game and I don't see it losing popularity anytime in the near future--which is good. I can't wait to play it on PC, even though I'm gonna have to start over. I have the DLC pass preordered for that version though... still glad I picked it up for console however.

Been playing it this week and up to about 200 'power', and finally level 20. Everything I liked about d1 is generally improved here. Although I'm finding less things to decrypt, which saddens me cause I enjoyed that. I do appreciate the legendary rewards from the various characters, at least this time they are worth it. Only exotic weapon over gotten is the pulse rifle that shoots black holes. It's pretty awesome, but if I can't infuse it soon it's too weak.

On the downside, I don't know that I like the maps as much. They feel too small and cluttery, plus they seem to have the same public events all the time. Heck even the moon map was fairly large in d1. I also don't like not having a quest menu, or that your equipment doesn't level up as you use it(I thought that was fun). Kinda feeling like they went too far down the casual player route.

I would however like to do a raid this game, I was never able to on the last one.

Lastly, are you guys all in a clan together or differing? I'd like to join one if anyone's is open rather than some random invite.

Xur is creating comedy gold on other forums for not selling gear that is ridiculously powerful to boost their Level and people threatening to quit the game because he only sells 1 weapon and 3 armors lol. I'm fine with the items being 270, they can be boosted from infusion if you wanted to use them. Plus it keeps me interested in doing my weekly rewards to see what I get along with other things. It is just funny seeing all the people rage over it.

Yea, I don't care what light level he sells the gear at either. There are plenty of activities already that for sure will boost your light level by at least 1 pt each. And then there's the exotic engram drops too...each powerful gear milestone will always give you gear higher than your current power level.

They went for more of an easy power grind than needing to level individual weapons and armor pieces in addition to getting the right ones. There are soft caps in place so that after a certain point only doing weekly milestones and getting exotic engrams will give rewards with enough power to level you up. There are some mechanics in place to artificially keep you down unless you know how to exploit them. For example if you get a weapon that sucks but the power is high you should keep it in your vault because it will be used when calculating the level of your drops and you will start getting higher stuff just from owning it.

Are you on PS4 or Xbox one? If you are on PS4 send a PM to Rage187 on here with your PSN name and he will get you an invite to our clan. I don't know when/if we will get enough people at high enough lvl to do the raid but you get rewards just for being in the clan and doing weekly xp.

I do like that they are cheap and not 100 shards for one item. I have a feeling they made xur this way on purpose to keep people doing weekly stuff.

Have you or anyone else here used "merciless", the exotic fusion rifle xur is selling currently? From what I'm reading it is extremely powerful and as close to Gjallarhorn in destiny 2 as we can get in terms of burst damage. I'm gonna buy it just to have it but have not seen it in action.

Interesting, I didn't realize putting things in the vault would impact anything. So should I generally put exotic gear I don't need in the vault? I don't have the items to infuse it higher, and it's too low of a power level to keep using. Not sure if I should disassemble it or keep it.

Also, what does 'rally to the flag' do?

PSN, I think we may have played together back in D1. Sent an PM, thanks!

rally to the flag fills your ammo and supercharges you; also displays time until next public event

i seem to be stuck just south of 270 power... not picking up any upgrades lately. i was a dummy and forgot to unlock the flashpoint events from Cayde though, so if I end up playing tonight I'll see what I can grab. i've had a couple of good nights in a row so here's to hoping for more of the same.

Not just exotic gear. It takes a tally of all your gear, including blue stuff. So don't just toss out things that drop that are high lvl. To explain what I mean better I'll give an example.

Let's say you are 250 power and you happen to get a sidearm that is 267. You do not have to equip it for the game to know you have it. You can put it in the vault and when the game does the gear scaling check it will also see your vault items and you will get more powerful gear than if you had dismantled or infused it to something else. It checks all your weapons and armor and takes note of your highest lvl item to determine what level your rewards will be.

My reputation rewards were stuck at 269 and blue gear was dropping at 269. I finally got around to finishing an exotic quest and I got Sturm that rolled 289. Suddenly my reputation rewards moved up to 270 and I started getting blues at 270 also. This allowed me to use the 270 items I was getting to infuse to items I had that were 269 with a legendary mod installed that gave a +5. So I could take anything that was 274 and bump it up to 275 now. It isn't much but it is progress. Next time I get a luminous engram or exotic it will be higher now.

If you want to we can farm some public events and I have a ton of bonus reward medals to use for better drops. You can hit 265 in a day just from farming events and turning in tokens. Then you can do exotic quests for weapons that when redeemed will roll high 270 or 280. This will help bring your reward items to higher level and allow you to jump a few levels. Then you can do your weekly stuff for luminous engrams which will always be higher than your level.

To answer your question on exotic stuff it depends on whether or not you want to use it. I have some gear that is class specific that I keep leveled so I can equip it when I change subclass. Also any exotic you get can be purchased from your vault collection for 10 legendary shards. If you toss it you can always get it back later but it's power level is only 205 when you get it from the collection. You can simply infuse a blue or purple gear to it to bring it up to level though.

So I hit 280 and ended up burning through all 100k glimmer making and applying mods to my weapons and armor so most has a +5 now. Like 5 minutes and I have 2500 left lol. Finally got a +5 for Warlock Bond at the end and I don't have enough glimmer to apply it haha
