motherboard DFI NF4 SLI-DR
video card: Leadtek 6800 gt sli pack
cpu:amd 64 3200+ venice

I've already exclude the problem of win xp (fresh install), virus (fresh install without network) and drivers (official driver)

Here is my situation:

1. install just one video card in pci-e slot 1 and set jumper to single vga mode.
In windows xp device manager, it says this card uses pci slot 6 (pci bus 5 and
irq is 18. Under this set up, there is a high cpu usage problem. When I use some software to check, it says it is a hardware interrupt which pccupise cpu.

2. install just one video card in pci-e slot 4 and set jumper to single vga mode.
In windows xp device manager, it says this card uses pci slot 9 (pci bus 2 and
irq is 17.

3. install both cards in pci-e slot 1 and 4 and set jumper to sli mode. it says that the one in pcie 1 is in pci slot 7(pci bus 4, irq 19) and the other one in pcie 4 is in pci slot 6(pci bus 5, irq 18) . Same cpu problem appears. And if I disable the card in pci shlot 6 (irq 8), which is in the pci-e slot 4, problem disappears.

Now anybody knows if this is a hardware problem? In single mode, both cards work well in pci-e slot 4 but not in pci-e slot 1. And in sli mode, the one in pci-e slot 1 works well but not the one in pci-e slot 4.

Should I RMA the video cards or motherboard?

A friend of mine said they migh need to get a bit more Voltage to be able to OC's them and for RAM I am quite the "n00b" however, should I not need it, it's all joy. Though OCZ says it runs on 3.3V normally, I guess thats what he meant when he said I would need to push it up a bit on the VDIMM.

Though I did read a confusing post on DFI, regarding PSU's that are recomended for SLI setups and non-sli setups : http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854
and the PSU I am going to buy didn't seem to make it on the list of SLI setups? though the tests I have read about it shows it should be sufficient enough?

thanks for the answers so far though

//MrFlashy

You've got UTT-based memory (UTT are the chips it uses) so those extra volts will come in handy for you. I thought you had just ordered some ordinary ram. Just be sure to have a fan pointed at the ram when you're running them at more than 3v.

Could you explain the actual problem a bit better? You said high CPU usage, but where is it saying that, and what are you doing when it says taht. I see no way in which the video cards can be linked to the amount of CPU usage, so it must be something else.

When press crtl+alt+del, task manager tells you about cpu usage. it's around 50-80% all
the time, but there is not a single process in task manager which uses cpu except for
sytem idel process. So I use a software called process explorer, and it tells you all the
things that use cpu including process and hardware interrupt, which won't be displayed
in task manager. And I'm not doing anything. i just reinstalled xp and drivers then there
comes this problem.

Its because everyone else has had very good luck and good service with them (I'm assuming by "them" you mean "DFI"). What exactly happened to you?

Cheesepoofs, just a quick question. Do you think the OCZ Modstream psu I have will be able to do a SLI setup and some OC? I'v read abit on the DFI street, but there seems to be a bit many opinions about it. I'd hate to know I'v bought a too small psu for a SLI setup. That would be a good $185 out the window in that case.

the modstream is 185?

i think it would be tight. unless you mean the powerstream, which would be better but it depends on the nextgen cards if thats what you're thinking. if its 6800gts then the powerstream would be fine, the modtream not as fine but would work.

Super Pi can prove everything. From 45s to 3 min for the same calculation. Do you think
this is some kind of error?

So that means you must have done something to your computer last friday. What did you do?

And like Rise said, I'd hope you know more about SLI then I do, seeing as I'm not using it and don't plan on using it in the future.

Have you tried reinstalling drivers or reinstalling XP?

Once summer temps came around my board had some major issues. Chipset would hit 55c + and my system would become unstable. Swapped the fan with a passive zalman now max is 44c and everything is fine

i'm confused, where did i profess to be an expert on sli or anything for that matter? i guarantee you this though, i'll take your system and get it running.

it's not our fault you can't get your system running. i'm glad you decided to get an asus so you can flounder about their forums complaining about their board that your ineptitude leaves useless.

you'd still be better off checking this out. before jumping to asus though.

cheese, i won't waste anytime with him. obviously he did something to his board and can't figure it out so he blames dfi. if he won't listen to people like sharp, and cpuz then he clearly is a hard headed fool that deserves what he gets. of course what he has is a crippled $2000 rig my sons p4 would thrash
