Kanonmat -- Thanks for the links. Added.

hysperion -- AFAIK, the worldwide packaging is the same. The SLI-D appears to only be sold outside the US/Canada, however.

walkure -- The answers to your questions have been added to the original post. FrontX is a breakout box for your 5.25" bays that adds additional ports, and yes "UV" does mean ultraviolet -- they'll glow if exposed to blacklight.

Fonzi -- Any memory that is of decent quality should be compatible with this motherboard. If you're looking at overclocking, obviously you're going to be wanting some higher-speed lower-latency modules. There has been reports that BH-5 modules work just a bit better than the TCCD ones.

vanvock -- Places around the web (including the AT review) seem to imply that it does, but I cannot verify for certain.

wow nice thread.

i think people should just wait a few months. remember when the A8N first came out... look at the prices of that board now... it's pre-$200....

think how much the ultra will cost then? i'm waiting a few months

regarding frontx:

If you get an ultra board without the frontex you can get that stuff at www.frontex.com, eg. highly configurable front connectors/ audio, usb, firewire.

I am gettting the ultra and do NOT have front USB on my case....but newegg has a very nice $8 3.5" drive bay front plate thing with USB 2.0 and firewire which i got. So, if i sell my old board together with the usb front panel i can us the new one.

I think front USB is really VERY nice to have, cant think being without it

I guess DFI isn't producing the Ultra-DR version yet, probably because they want their highest (SLI-DR) and lowest (Ultra-DR) price-points out there right now.

Anybody heard any estimates on when the Ultra-DR (non-SLI) version will be out?

Yeah, great thread. Especially watching everyone try to find the board.
They're still on the egg.
Edit:
The SLI-DR was on the egg, gone now.
The Ultra-D is still there. To see how many are left, add to cart, then change the qty to 99 and hit update, it will put the number left in the box.

They were there when I checked at 1:32, now they are already sold out. I'm really thinking of getting one and keeping my A8N-SLI as a backup.

Thanks! I just ordered one! Cost $186 after tax and shipping... $10 more than ZZF, except ZZF out of stock. i just can't wait.

They are still in stock, but you have to search under manufacturer. It's not listed under the NF4 Ultra chipset somehow. $169 is not hot, but quite ok for a great board that is essentially a NF4-SLI

Looking at this picture, has anyone else noticed that the northbridge chip is directly in line with the 16x PCIe slot? So much for replacing the 40mm HSF with a good passive solution.

that's true. Hope that fan is not too noisy. I guess you can replace with water cooling solution, but that's too costly for me.

Anyone knows what those PCI-e 1x and 4x slots are for?

From the XtremeSystems thread, they have said that the fan is really not that noisy at all. In DFI's defense, most nF4 motherboards have the same or a similar problem, however. DFI did improve upon the design of the chipset HSF over what is on the A8N-SLI, say.

As for the PCIe x1 and x4 slots, those are for future compatibility whenever manufacturers decide to release PCIe cards. PCIe is slowly being implemented and designed to replace traditional PCI, but there's been no applications (other than graphics cards) that I am aware of at this present time. Eventually you'll see things like SATA cards, LAN cards, etc. show up with PCIe connections, just none currently.

TJmoney -- I added some speculation regarding the Zalman 7000/7700 to the original post.

Tabb -- I believe you meant "if your DIMMs are lower than 40mm"

I just ordered the Ultra-D myself from Newegg and it shows there are now 38 of these left. Still hung up on the CPU, not sure which to get.
