I have a good question.....i now have a A8N-SLI board, will i be able to just hook up this DFI board to my harddrive or will i have to restart from scratch? Basically, can i just take my motherboard out and put this in and act like nothing happened? They are both nforce 4 boards so........thoughts?

You might have to reinstall some of the drivers for audio and such, but if you have Windows XP you should not have any problems. I don't trust 2000 with anything, and if you still use 98 you are on your own..

Thank-you for reposting what was already in the OP ...

Seriously, though, I've posted some speculations about how the Zalman coolers would fit, so it's not entirely unknown ...

Higher overclocks are achieved with the RAM in DIMM slots 2 & 4 (I can't for the life of me find this info, but I'm sure I read it (elsewhere than the AT review) ... any help from the forumgoers?)

in a thread on xtremesystems.org. I was just browsing but i gave up...too many postings. I even once cited this statement because someone else wanted to know.

I am almost positive OPP said it, he said he had a conversation with Oscar (i am quite certain he referred to him) who told him that for performance reasons it's certainly better to put the two sticks in Dimm2 and Dimm4.

OMG i found it :

***********
DoS..
here is the minor update :
I talked to Oskar yesterday, he told me that, the LP nf4 is a bit different from most 939 boards in terms of the way you plug in your ram sticks in as dual channel.
** Make sure you plug in 1,3 or 2,4. And if you don't mind, I would say 2,4 will get greater performance than 1,3!

I will have complete test on this Thursday or Friday for sure.

Edit: Now, afterwards, it looks that Oscar himself did NOT say this..instead it might be a comment by OPP after mentioning the memory slots arrangment ?! Its not really clear.

Well...

Aha. Yes. Thanks flexy ... and you're right ... in retrospect it does appear to be a comment by OPB. I'll mark it as a comment in the OP of this thread and we'll go from there.

can someone tell me how loud the chipset fan is on this board? I'm planning on building an HTPC around a socket 939 motherboard and have been waiting for the Auss A8N non-SLI board since the chipset is passively cooled. But who knows when that's going to come out... I"m getting a bit sick of waiting.

The DFI reviews are very good and people's experiences seem to be mirroring that. So I'm considering basing my HTPC aroudn the DFI NF4 UT board isntead of the Asus, but need to know:

1) how loud the chipset fan is?
2) will it fit an XP-90, XP-120 and/or Zlaman 7700AlCu?

Man oh man is it tempting to buy now even though it should be cheaper. Just making sure I have the board when I get my video card, it'd suck to have to wait for a new shipment to get in if they sell out, or worse the price inflates even more. What to do, what to do...

Just ordered my DFI Ultra-D from Mittoni (Vic, AUS) for $330 AUD incl delivery.

Just for the record there are other cheaper places (but i dunno if theyre any good) you just have to scour google.com.au with "Search for pages from Australia" enabled.

http://www.hardwarecentral.com.au/

Ultra-D for AU$279.00 - Backorder (12th Feb)
SLI-DR for AU$389.00 - Backorder (18th Feb)

Cant find any reviews about this store, so i didnt really trust em - went with Mittoni AU$20 more but reliable.

Secondly - Just pays to wait. In this case the wait wasnt entirely my choice... I couldnt find the Gigabyte K8NXP-9 anywhere - and not being into SLI at the present time - didnt want to buy the Asus A8V-SLI. So when the DFI review came out ... well, you know the rest of the story.

Having an nf4 board that can be modded for SLI when the time is right is... just so .. very.. perfect.

Thirdly - I suppose im gona be the first to Run WinXp 64bit on this so ill let ya all know how it handles. Cant wait.

Finally - If all goes well by next Wednesday at the latest i should be running:

Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000BWA
400W Thermaltake Silentpower PSU
AMD64 3200+ Retail with Fan
Leadtek 6600 GT TDH Extreme
2 x 512MB Generic DDR 400 RAM
2 x WD 160GB HDD
Pioneer DVR-109 DVD Burner

Not an utter beast, but for the $1630 AUD ($1255 US) - damn thats good moolah pwnage.

Ill keep ya informed

1) From reports over on XtremeSystems, the chipset fan is actually pretty quiet, though there's no way to install an aftermarket one due to the placement.

2) This question is answered in the original post, to a certain extent. The XP-90 fits fine, the XP-120 fits, but blocks access to DIMM4, and I've posted some speculations about the Zalman coolers, since I haven't found anyone that confirms one way or the other.
