How long after the release of D3 do you think it will take for bots and dupes to become mainstream? 9 months?

man that was a while ago... 6 months or so?

More like 2-3 months.

I gotta get me some Diablo 3 wallpaper so I can be reminded that's it coming every time I'm at my computer

I have really played out Diablo II...and it pissed me off that they deleted all my characters. You have to login every 30 days to keep them active. Boo. I had some 1337 stuff...0.8 arkane's and a 0.8 perfect Windforce. Actually I think the Arkane's disappeared, but still had the Windforce

Probably still stuff I haven't done in Diablo II. Didn't they make a Super Diablo appear in act 1 or something? Also aren't there lots of really unique monsters no one hardly ever sees? Heck I dunno...

Man I wanna play again too now - I haven't played online in forever. Such a pain in the arse to get all the good items. Ahhh let's get together and play. I've actually never played as an Assassin, and only played the Druid class last year. Why I took so long to get around to those I don't know, I've had the expansion since it came out.

i have a level 7 amazon (going for javelin skills). i'll be playing tomorrow. just don't get too far ahead, i'm only at the black marsh right now (i guess i'll do the countess to get some runes)

If it had an item bind system dupes would be pointless, and trading would be alot more balanced, so I hope they look into that

You'll have at _least_ 6 months to play with SC2 before D3 is out, SC2 is coming in december, I can't imagine D3 even reaching beta before next summer, and i'd hit at possibly a Q4 2009 release, knowing blizzard it could even stretch into early 2010 though

Has there been an official announcement of SC2's release date?

Meh, SC2 had december 3rd for its release date according to several retailers, but according to blizzard's currently-running invitational event, it's only a 3rd done with the polishing and stuff.

I seriously wouldn't expect D3 to be before the end of next summer, given Blizzard's track record for announcement-to-release turnaround

even wrath of the lich king, announced last blizzcon (2007), isn't out yet, and thats only an expansion. A full game? Unless they've wised up and decided to develop a game to near-completion before announcing it, i'd say fall 2009-early 2010 release for D3

Make sure to use the key that the store provides, not the one you used to register. I know a lot of people were getting hung up on that part.

Watched the trailer and demo from the main webpage. Played smooth and looked pretty neat. If one hasn't played D2 in awhile (like I bought the expansion but never installed it), where would be a good page to read up about current strategies.

Also looks like you can now forgot about worrying where you D2 CDs are, as long as you have the keys.

The Blizzard Store was just updated, making the Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction client available for digital download. If you already own the games and wish for digital copies, simply create an account at the Blizzard Store and register your CD-keys. The titles are both on sale for a small price of $19.99 each.

Go to the diabloii.net class forums, they have a stickied post at the top with all common builds. The friendliness of guides to new players varies, some require good gear (this is a necessity for some, as they really don't work in later difficulties without a prerequisite damage level).

If you're starting off from scratch in D2:LOD, I would recommend either a sorc or necro as they work best with minimal gear and can be used as good magic finders to get better items.
For the sorc, you could make a blizz baller or meteorb (that's blizzard + fireball or meteor + frozen orb).

For the necro, a summoner aka fishymancer works best (skeleton mastery, summon skeleton, corpse explosion). They're extremely fun and they scale very well from start to finish. It's not one of those builds where you're ineffective until level 30 or 40, but rather you're effective from 1 through however high you choose to level. They're slower than sorcs though due to the lack of teleport and the attack speed of skeletons.
If you're looking to just have fun and beat the game and not build up items to make many more chars, this is the way to go.

That's pretty cool. I've got the media, but would rather just download them digitally instead of reinstalling from that.

Sweet! Can't wait lol. It looks ready to play now....hating how its TBA on launch date. The level of detail, physics and effects fidelity is simply amazing. Also happy they kept the WoW/WC3 art folks far away from D3, with much edgier graphics and artwork. Very excited! Can't wait!

I did that earlier. I can't play online though, it says the CD-key used was not the original or something and to use the original (?), does it both for Battle.net and OpenBattle. I didn't check to see if they have anything in their FAQs about it, so they might already be aware.

I think they'll certainly strike a balance between bound and tradeable items. When I played D2 Hardcore, the best items were never traded anyways. You built new characters around godly items like weapons, you never traded them. I think bound items would make big drops more satisfying but it would be annoying if items constantly went to waste.

I've never played WoW but I've played lots of other MMORPGs and RPGs. Diablo doesn't really have anything similar to them besides the fantasy motif. You basically run around like a God and satisfy your primal hunter-gatherer needs. One huge difference is that you aren't reliant in Diablo on other players like with an MMO although it can be a lot of fun to play with friends. The bad part is that it can be repetitive. You basically run through the same game with randomized dungeon differences over and over. I don't know if this will change in D3 or not.

The gameplay trailer summed it up nicely, giving a nod to items being the most important aspect of the game. You basically run around and add more bling to your toon, which Blizzard has clearly paid close attention to with armor/weapon visuals. It looks like they've definitely improved upon the strategy aspects and character skill development, which is certainly welcome also. Boss fights look more dynamic and varied, and even normal mob encounters look to add numerous twists.

in that case, maybe I'll just install off the media, since now you dont need cds to play

Is it a time sink such as where WoW requires more time invested rather than skill to improve your toon?

This is scaring me, that there are people who didn't play/weren't around for D2 etc. I guess we're also getting to the point these days where a lot of gamers didn't play Doom when it first came out either.

I feel old.

They are entirely different
If you haven?t played D2 i suggest it, just to get the feel for it

WoW is a MMORPG where the idea is to play with other people online (raids and such) you already know this

Diablo i would not classify as an MMO, there is an online aspect to it but its certainly not "massive" for D2 you coudl group through battle net but you could only have 8 people in the same party/instance ID

there is NO persistent world, EVERYTHING is instanced,

Diablo is more like Zelda with an online part to it, free roaming lvls, hack and slash, dungeons ect

It is very repetitive as you have to run the same dungeons over and over for the uber gear,

D2 and D2 LOD are worth the 20$ or whatever they cost now to get used to the game if you play on getting into D3

Also my I ask how old you are? I?m curious simply because you never played D2 which is kind of a shock to me

For what it's worth, items in WoW can fall under 3 possible rules:
1) Crappy items never bind
2) Medium quality items are bind on equip, so you can sell cool things that you find, but not after using them yourself.
3) Rare, high quality items are bind on pickup, so only you can reap the rewards of your own efforts. Nobody gets a free ride to the top.

Blizzard's franchises do have a lot of mechanics in common, and many parts of the D3 gameplay video looked like they borrowed ideas from WoW.
